Laboratory of Microstructure Studies and Mechanics of Materials

The Laboratory of design, manufacturing and control (in French: Laboratoire de conception fabrication commande), also known as the LCFC, is a French laboratory of research located in Metz. It is under the authority of Arts et Métiers ParisTech. It is part of the Carnot Institute ARTS and currently employs more than 30 persons. It was created in 2009 from the division of the LGIPM, a laboratory specialized in industrial design and manufacturing. It is also part of the doctoral school 432 of Arts et Métiers ParisTech.

The Science Park of Metz is located in the South-East of the city, in the area of Grigy. It is the second technology center of Lorraine in terms of workforce, behind the science park of Nancy. There are more than 250 companies and 4000 people working in the park.

The Moselle Open (Open de Moselle from 2003 to 2010) is a professional tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts. It is part of the ATP Tour 250 series of the ATP Tour from 2003, The venue for the tournament was most recently the Arènes and was the Parc des Expositions from 2011 to 2013. The tournament is one of the four French events of the ATP Tour 250 series, along with the Open Sud de France, the Open 13 and the Lyon Open.

École supérieure d'ingénieurs des travaux de la construction de Metz (ESITC Metz) a French engineering College.The School has been created in 1992 by Marcel Poinsignon at the request of construction companies. Located in Metz, the ESITC Metz is a private higher education institution of general interest recognised by the State. The school is a member of the Union of Independent Grandes Écoles (UGEI).

The Battle of Borny–Colombey or the Battle of Colombey-Nouilly took place on 14 August 1870 as part of the Franco-Prussian War. During the battle the escape route of the French army under François Bazaine was blocked when the French encountered the First Army under von Steinmetz. The outcome of the battle itself was indecisive as although the French were able to escape to Metz, they were delayed for 12 hours.Like most of the early battles of the war, Borny was one that neither side had planned or wanted. For the French, the battle had dire consequences as they neglected to use their numerical superiority to force a passage and it delayed the Army's retreat out of Metz for twelve precious hours. This gave the Prussians the time to bring up their Second army under Prince Frederick Charles and assured that after the battles fought in the following days (Mars-la-Tour and Gravelotte) France's premier army would be trapped at Metz.

The arrondissement of Metz-Ville is a former arrondissement of France in the Moselle department in the Lorraine region. In 2015 it was merged into the new arrondissement of Metz. It had 1 commune, and its population was 119,551 (2012).
