The Flask, Hampstead

Flask Walk is a street in Hampstead in the London Borough of Camden. It runs eastwards from Hampstead High Street to a junction with Well Walk and New End Square. It is primarily residential but the western end of the street is a pedestrianised alley featuring commercial properties. Hampstead tube station is located close to the junction with the High Street. It takes its name indirectly from the flasks made for the mineral water produced at the nearby Hampstead Wells. The Flask public house is located near the western end of the street and was built in 1767, although the current building is Victorian. An earlier Upper Flask Tavern was a meeting place of the Kit Kat Club of the early eighteenth century, located in nearby Heath Street.A number of buildings in the street are now Grade II listed, many dating from the Regency era of the nineteenth century or earlier. The street also features the former Wells and Campden Baths, built in 1888 and closed in 1978. The 1736 Gardnor House is on the southern side of the street. A planned station of the Metropolitan Railway was due to be located at the eastern end of the street, but although authorised in the 1860s it was never constructed.

Hampstead is a London Underground station in Hampstead, North London. It is on the Edgware branch of the Northern line, between Golders Green and Belsize Park stations. The branch's northernmost subterranean station, it is on the boundary between Travelcard Zone 2 and Zone 3. Designed by architect Leslie Green, it was opened on 22 June 1907 by the Charing Cross, Euston & Hampstead Railway. As it is at the junction of Heath Street and Hampstead High Street, the name Heath Street was proposed before opening, and the original tiled signs on the platform walls still read Heath Street. Because Hampstead is on a steep hill, the station's platforms are the deepest on the London Underground network, at 58.5 metres (192 ft) below ground level; and it has the deepest lift shaft on the Underground, at 55 metres (180 ft). Its high-speed lifts, originally manufactured by Otis, were modernised by the Wadsworth Lift Company, and again in 2014 by Accord. To the north, between Hampstead and Golders Green stations, is the uncompleted North End or Bull & Bush station. London Overground's Hampstead Heath station on the North London line is a 10–15 minute walk east.

The Pentameters Theatre was founded in 1968 and is still run by artistic director Leonie Scott-Matthews, a well known Hampstead resident. It is a 60-seat venue and is a fringe theatre in the London Borough of Camden, located above the Three Horseshoes public house in Hampstead.

New End Hospital was a hospital in Hampstead, north London. It was founded in 1869 as the infirmary for the Hampstead Union workhouse, and operated until 1986. The buildings have now been redeveloped as housing.

The Everyman Hampstead is the original site of the Everyman Cinemas group, a boutique independent cinema chain, located in Holly Bush Vale, Hampstead, in North West London. It shows new releases, as well as classic films and special events, such as the New York Metropolitan Opera, National Theatre Live, film festivals, live Q&As, and seasons. The venue features two screens (a 122-seat room with club suites, gallery seating and a vaulted ceiling; and a more intimate 72-seat screen), as well as a private hire room, a licensed bar and restaurant, Sony Digital 4K projectors, and Dolby Digital surround sound.

Lahd Gallery is a contemporary Middle Eastern art gallery. Founded in 2005 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to create a focal point for women artists from the Persian Gulf, in 2010 it moved to its present location in Hampstead, London.Lahd Gallery became a well-known exhibition space representing exclusively MENASA (Middle East, North Africa, South Asia) contemporary art. Artists are exposed to an international market using an online e-gallery, as well as yearly international pop venues, fairs and events all over the world.

Gardnor House is a house in Hampstead in the London Borough of Camden. It has been listed Grade II* on the National Heritage List for England (NHLE) since August 1950.It was built for Thomas Gardnor around 1736. The house is set over 3 storeys with an attic. It is made from yellow stock brick and is 4,600 sq ft in size. It was refronted to the back and front in the early 19th century. It has a mansard roof with tall chimney stacks in brick. One of the original rain-water heads and pipes in lead is inscribed 1736. The interior has an original 18th century staircase with turned balusters, carved brackets and column newels. The house retains some original door cases and most rooms feature fireplaces, door cases and cornices from the early 19th century.In the 1850s Gardnor House was occupied by a dealer in china porcelain and by the 1880s, an architect. The stained glass painter Henry Holiday bought the house in the 1890s.The writers Kingsley Amis and Elizabeth Jane Howard moved to the house in 1977. Howard later left Amis and the house was sold in 1981.A photograph of Gardnor House by John Gay is in the collection of the Hampstead Museum at nearby Burgh House.Gardnor House was put up for sale in January 2019 for £12 million and sold for £10.8 million in October 2019.

The Academy School is an independent preparatory school for boys and girls aged between 6 and 13. It is located in Hampstead, London and has been operating since 1997.

6 Ellerdale Road (now the Institute of St Marcellina) is a house built by the Arts and Crafts movement architect Richard Norman Shaw for himself in the period 1874 to 1876. It is a large red brick detached house between Frognal and Hampstead in London. It was designated a Grade I listed building in 1950. Since 2006 it has been used as residential accommodation for foreign female students attending English courses in London. Run by the Sisters of Saint Marcellina, it is now known as Hampstead Towers.

The New End Theatre, Hampstead, was an 80-seat fringe theatre venue in London, at 27 New End in the London Borough of Camden which operated from 1974 until 2011. It was founded in 1974 by Buddy Dalton in the converted mortuary of the now-defunct New End Hospital. The mortuary was formerly linked to the hospital across the road by a tunnel. It was owned by Roy and Sonia Saunders from 1986 until 1997. Its Artistic Directors included Sonia Saunders (1986–92), Jon Harris (1992–96) and Neil McPherson (1996–97). From 1997 to 2011 it was both owned and run by Artistic Director and Chief Executive Brian Daniels. It had a number of successes including A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine, which transferred to both the West End and Broadway; world premieres of work by Jean Anouilh, Steven Berkoff, Tom Kempinski, Richard Stirling, Arnold Wesker, Tony McHale, and Geoffrey Williams' play Tunnels Without End. The building was converted into a synagogue and Jewish cultural centre in 2011.

The Duke of Hamilton was one of the oldest pubs in London, situated in Hampstead. It was a popular meeting place for actors Peter O'Toole, Oliver Reed and Richard Burton. Reed would be seen for long periods at the pub on a daily basis.In 2011, the pub was awarded "Londoner of the Day" by London 24 magazine. The Not For Tourists Guide to London 2014 cited it as being "as good a pub you're likely to find anywhere".The pub closed in July 2017, and was reopened in early 2018 as the "Hampstead Lounge & Jazz Club".

New End Square is a square in Hampstead, located in the London Borough of Camden. It dates back to the early eighteenth century when it was located close to the Hampstead Wells spa on the adjacent Well Walk. Despite its name it is not rectangular. At its northern end is the Old White Bear pub dating back to 1704, on the corner with Well Road. Its southern end is at the junction between Flask Walk and Well Walk. New End street curls off from one corner of the square, eventually heading west to Heath Street. It is known as New End to distinguish it from older parts of Hampstead village. The largest building is Burgh House, now housing the Hampstead Museum, which dates back to 1704. A number of other buildings, dating back to the eighteenth and early nineteenth century, are now Grade II listed.New End street was developed at the same time as the square, and was once home to the New End Hospital and the later New End Theatre. The The Duke of Hamilton pub is located in the street.
