Stellendam

Havenhoofd is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee, and lies about 10 km west of Hellevoetsluis. The village was first mentioned around 1750 as "'t Goereese Hooft", and refers to the dams on either side of the harbour. During the 18th century, Havenhoofd developed as a harbour village for Goedereede.In 1943, during World War II, the entire village was demolished as part of the Atlantic Wall, and 42 bunkers were built in the area. Some of the bunkers are still hidden under the sand of the dunes. Havenhoofd was rebuilt between 1947 and 1949. In 1958 the harbour was dammed as a result of the North Sea flood of 1953, and the fishermen moved to Stellendam.

Goedereede (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɣudəˈreːdə] ) is a little town and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The former municipality had a population of about 11,000 in 2010. It consisted of the west part of the island of Goeree-Overflakkee. Goedereede merged with Dirksland, Middelharnis, and Oostflakkee into the new municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee on January 1, 2013. The town have a population of about 2,000 in 2012. Goedereede received city rights in 1312 from Sir Gereart van Voorne. The future Pope Adrian VI (1459–1523) was at one time pastor of the parish church of Goedereede. During a great fire in Goedereede in 1482 the old "Katharina Church" and its tower were destroyed. A new church was erected in 1512 beside the Toren van Goedereede (Goederede Tower), which still stands today. Goederede went into a long decline, losing trade to better-sited ports. There were insufficient funds to maintain the church. In 1706 the dilapidated building was pulled down, but the tower was preserved.The former municipality of Goedereede also included the communities of, from west to east, Ouddorp, Goedereede (with Havenhoofd), Oostdijk, and Stellendam.

The Toren van Goedereede (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈtoːrə(m) vɑŋ ˌɣudəˈreːdə]; Goederede Tower) is a gray square brick tower in Goedereede, Netherlands, 39.5 metres (130 ft) high, belonging to the Catharina church. It was built in 1512. From 1552 to 1912 the tower served as a lighthouse, and went through various changes during this period. Today it has been restored and is a museum, housing a carillon.

Oostdijk is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee, and lies about 13 km west of Hellevoetsluis. It was first mentioned in 1515 as "gelegen in Westvoirne bijder Goederee inder banne vanden oestdijck", and means "eastern dike". It is named after the eponymous polder.Oostdijk is not a statistical entity, It is considered part of Goedereede. It consists of about 100 houses.

Voorne aan Zee is a municipality on the island of Voorne-Putten in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of 189.82 km2 (73.29 sq mi) of which 67.99 km2 (26.25 sq mi) is water. It had a population of 73,873 in 2022. The municipality of Voorne aan Zee was formed on 1 January 2023, through the merger of the former municipalities of Brielle, Hellevoetsluis and Westvoorne, which itself was formed on 1 January 1980, through the merger of the former municipalities Oostvoorne and Rockanje.It consists of the population centres of Brielle, Hellevoetsluis, Oostvoorne, Oudenhoorn, Rockanje, Nieuw-Helvoet, Nieuwenhoorn, Oude en Nieuwe Struiten, Vierpolders, Zwartewaal, Tinte and Helhoek.

Westvoorne is a former municipality on the island of Voorne-Putten in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The former municipality covered an area of 97.48 km2 (37.64 sq mi) of which 44.30 km2 (17.10 sq mi) was water. It had a population of 14,900 in 2021. The municipality of Westvoorne was formed on 1 January 1980, through the merger of the former municipalities of Oostvoorne and Rockanje. It consisted of the population centres of Oostvoorne, Rockanje, Tinte and Helhoek. On 1 January 2023, the municipality of Westvoorne merged with Brielle and Hellevoetsluis into the new municipality of Voorne aan Zee.

Rockanje is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Voorne aan Zee, and lies about 7 km northwest of Hellevoetsluis. In 2001, the village of Rockanje had 4805 inhabitants. The built-up area of the village was 1.2 km², and contained 2004 residences. The statistical area "Rockanje", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 5710.Rockanje was a separate municipality until 1980, when it became part of Westvoorne.

Ouddorp is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is part of the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee. It is often referred to as Ouddorp aan Zee (Outdorp on the Sea) to promote itself as a seaside resort, because the village has an 18 kilometres (11 mi) long beach which is the longest of the Netherlands.

The Dorpskerk (town church) also known as the Maartenskerk in Ouddorp (South Holland, Netherlands) was completed in 1348 and is situated in the town's centre. The tower was completed in the early 16th-century. The church was completely renovated in the 18th-century. The church and tower are rijksmonuments, listed as number 16267 and 16268.The 1,160 seat church is still in use by the Restored Reformed Church. Originally it was a Roman Catholic church. During the Reformation it became a Protestant church. In 2010, the church was transferred from the Dutch Reformed Church to the Restored Reformed Church.

De Hoop ("Hope") is a flour windmill in Ouddorp built in 1845 and fully renovated in 1984. It is one of the few windmills in the Netherlands that is still privately owned, and is still in full commercial operation.

Stuifakker is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Voorne aan Zee, and lies about 8 km northwest of Hellevoetsluis. The statistical area "Stuifakker", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 600.

Grevelingen or Grevelingenmeer (Lake Grevelingen) is a closed off part of the Rhine-Meuse estuary on the border of the Dutch provinces of South Holland and Zeeland. It is situated between the islands of Goeree-Overflakkee (South Holland) and Schouwen-Duiveland (Zeeland) and was closed off as part of the Delta Works, a huge engineering project designed to protect the southwestern part of the Netherlands from flooding. The Brouwersdam, a dike connecting the two islands on the west, closes off the Grevelingen from the North Sea. The Grevelingendam, the dike on the east, blocks the inflow of Rhine and Meuse water. Since its closure in 1971 the saltwater of the Grevelingen slowly started to become brackish due to rainwater and excess polderwater from the islands, but the Dutch changed their mind and decided that they wanted to preserve the saline biotope. Therefore, in 1978 a sluice was created under the Brouwersdam, partially restoring and maintaining the saline character of the Grevelingen. Nevertheless, the water body life remains affected by the changes in water salinity, in the transport of sediments, and by a deficit in oxygen in deep water, caused by the levee since 1971. Benthic life (mussels, oysters and many fixed organisms) is rich in the shallow waters in the photic zone, but the deep sediments are less conducive to marine life, and fishes in open water are rarely observed during diving. The Brouwerssluis is open all year round except during storm floods. Brouwerssluis is the home of a seal colony subsisting on fishes transported by the seawater stream entering the water body during high tide. Connexxion bus service 104 crosses the Brouwersdam, bus service 133 (and others) the Grevelingendam. The Grevelingenmeer is the largest saltwater water body in Europe and is a popular place for holidays and water sports (sailing, surfing, diving).
