Arcos de Valdevez (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈaɾkuʒ ðɨ ˌvaldɨˈveʃ] ) is a municipality along the northern frontier of Portugal and Galicia (Spain). The population in 2011 was 22,847, in an area of 447.60 km2. It is the largest municipality in area of the district of Viana do Castelo.

Minho (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈmiɲu]) was a former province in Portugal, established in 1936 and dissolved in 1976. It consisted of 23 municipalities, with its capital in the city of Braga. Today, the area would include the districts of Braga and Viana do Castelo. Minho has substantial Celtic influences and shares many cultural traits with neighbouring Galicia in Northwestern Spain. The region was part of the Roman Province and early Germanic medieval Kingdom of Gallaecia. Historical remains of Celtic Minho include Briteiros Iron Age Hillfort, the largest Gallaecian native stronghold in the Entre Douro e Minho region, in North Portugal. The University of Minho, founded in 1973, takes its name from the former province. Even though the province no longer exists, its name is still commonly used to refer to the region, since people there have a unique culture and way to be. Minho is famous as being the origin of the soup caldo verde and Vinho Verde, a wine particular to the region.

It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes Ponte da Barca, Vila Nova da Muía and Paço Vedro de Magalhães. The population in 2011 was 4,372, in an area of 8.84 km2.

Touvedo Dam (Portuguese: Barragem de Touvedo) is a concrete gravity dam on the Limia. It is located in the municipality Ponte da Barca e Arcos de Valdevez, in Viana do Castelo District, Portugal. Construction of the dam began in 1987. The dam was completed in 1993. It is owned by Companhia Portuguesa de Produção de Electricidade (CPPE). The dam is used for power generation, irrigation and flood control.

The population in 2011 was 43,498, in an area of 320.25 km2. The town proper has about 2,800 inhabitants. It is named after the long medieval bridge (ponte) that passes over the Lima river that runs next to the town. The current Mayor is Victor Mendes, elected by the People's Party (CDS–PP). It is one of the six municipalities in Portugal administered by this party. The municipal holiday is 20 September.
