Dawson County is a county located in the Northeast portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 26,798 up from 22,330 in 2010. The county seat is Dawsonville.Dawson County is included in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area. Its natural resources include Amicalola Falls, the highest falls in Georgia and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the state.

Juno is an unincorporated community in Dawson County, Georgia, United States. It lies along State Route 183 to the northwest of the city of Dawsonville, the county seat of Dawson County. Its elevation is 1,493 feet (455 m).

Dawson Forest is a 10,130-acre (41.0 km2) public-use forest located in Dawson County, Georgia, southwest of Dawsonville. It is owned by the city of Atlanta, but is considered a state forest, as it is managed by the Georgia Forestry Commission.It was purchased in 1971 from Lockheed, and was the previous site of the Georgia Nuclear Aircraft Laboratory (GNAL). The property is currently referred to as the Dawson Forest City of Atlanta Tract and managed by the Georgia Forestry Commission with a trail system open to the public. The tract is located approximately ten miles from the end of limited access on Georgia 400 in Cumming. An area of 3 acres (12,000 m2) previously occupied by GNAL was restricted following 1978 testing which found residual nuclear radiation from the experiments performed there. Subsequent studies in 1991 and 1997 found radiation levels to be at or slightly above normal background radiation levels. The property also encompasses Amicalola Creek, which various groups are lobbying to be designated as a scenic river, and which flows over Amicalola Falls within Amicalola Falls State Park. It was intended and retained by the city as a potential site for Atlanta's second airport, however in late summer 2009 it was made known that part may be used for the Shoal Creek Reservoir, a reservoir that would send water mainly to the city of Atlanta system, at its water works in Sandy Springs. However, this 38-mile (61 km) pipeline would result in an interbasin transfer from the Etowah River to the Chattahoochee River, which is currently prohibited by the metro Atlanta water district, and would leave less water in Lake Allatoona. Additionally, Alabama has sued to stop nearly everything Georgia has tried to do with the upstream water supply, including the Hickory Log Creek reservoir. In 2009, it was estimated that these lawsuits prevented permitting and construction that would take only four years. The lake would be 2,000 acres (8.1 km2), leaving the remainder as forest.

The Dawson County Jail in Dawsonville, Georgia, also known as Old Dawson County Jail, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1881 and modified in 1931, 1974, and 1979. It was built by M.B. McGinty, a builder from Athens, Georgia.The jail is a two-story 33 feet (10 m) by 26 feet (7.9 m) red brick, Italianate-style building with a hipped roof that used to be covered by "good heart-pine shingles laid 5 inches to the weather". The exterior walls are 13-inch (0.33 m) thick and its interior walls are 9-inch (0.23 m) thick.It is the third building to be Dawson County's jail; the first, built in 1858, was destroyed by fire set by a prisoner in 1865 or 1866. The second jail, with wooden walls and floors, had a "criminal floor" which was noted in 1873 to be "fine", but the "debtor's floor" was "not secure".

The Dawson County Courthouse, built in 1858, is a historic two-story redbrick courthouse building located on Courthouse Square in Dawsonville, Georgia. It was built as a simple 50 feet (15 m) by 36 feet (11 m) brick building in 1858. An addition was added in 1958.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.It was renovated in 1989/90.The building is not the current courthouse, which is located several blocks north.

The Boyd and Sallie Gilleland House (now known as Peach Brandy Cottage) is a historic residence in Dawsonville, Georgia. It is located at 3 Shepard's Lane on Georgia Highway 9 (known as Thunder Road because of its use by moonshiners), leading to Atlanta.

Amicalola Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is a tributary to the Etowah River. Amicalola Falls, a tall waterfall on its course, lends its name to Amicalola Falls State Park."Amicalola" is a name derived from the Cherokee language meaning "tumbling waters". Many variant names have been recorded, including "Amakalola Creek", "Amicalola River", "Amicolola Creek", "Armacolola Creek", "Armi Caroli Creek", "Armicalola Creek", and "Ummah Caloloke Creek".

The Dawson County School District is a public school district in Dawson County, Georgia, United States, based in Dawsonville. It serves the communities of Dawsonville and Juno, and parts of Big Canoe.

Dawson County High School is the public high school of Dawsonville, Georgia, United States.It enrolls approximately 800 students in grades 10, 11, and 12. In the 2017–2018 school year, the school began serving only grades 10–12, with grade 9 moving to the Dawson County Junior High School. DCHS students and staff moved into the present facility (145,000 square foot, situated on 60 acres) in December 1997. Health and medical instructional facilities, as well as 12 new classrooms (10,000 square feet) were added in August 2004. In 2016, the school added a $13 million "Performing Arts Center". A $1 million JROTC building was constructed in 2018. A "College and Career Academy" facility was also built in 2019. The principal is Michael Negley. The school employs a full-time school nurse and a School Resource Officer (SRO). More than 60 percent of the school's staff holds a master's degree or higher. Currently there are over 70 certified personnel on staff at DCHS. The school's teams compete as the Tigers. Sports at Dawson County High include softball, football, wrestling, track, JROTC Raiders, and basketball.The school also has a Fine Arts program, including Band, Drama, Chorus and Art classes. Extracurricular programs within these classes include the Dawson County Tiger Pride Marching Band and the Chamber Singers.
