St Mary's Church is in the village of Eccleston, Cheshire, England, on the estate of the Duke of Westminster south of Chester. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Chester and the deanery of Chester. Its benefice is combined with that of St Mary, Pulford. The Dukes of Westminster are buried in the adjacent Old Churchyard.

Church Cottage stands in the corner of the churchyard of St Mary's Church in the village of Eccleston, Cheshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.The cottage was built in 1870 for the 3rd Marquess of Westminster and designed by the Chester architect John Douglas. It is constructed in brown brick with stone dressings and a red tile roof. The roof is steep and has gables at each end; the gables are timber-framed and tile-hung. The cottage has 1½ storeys and two bays. The surviving original windows have stone mullions. The timber-framed gable is described as being "plain and simple" with "an unusually high proportion of white plaster to dark timber".

The village is approximately 2.7 miles (4.3 km) to the south of the city of Chester, near to the River Dee. The village is situated on the estate of the Duke of Westminster who maintains his ancestral home at nearby Eaton Hall. According to the 2001 census, the population of the parish was 184. The population of the civil parish was recorded as 246 in the 2011 census.

Stud Lodge is a building in the grounds of Eaton Hall, Cheshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.Stud Lodge was built in 1881–82 as a store shed and domestic offices for the 1st Duke of Westminster on his estate at Eaton Hall and designed by the Chester architect John Douglas. It is built in two storeys in red brick with some timber framing and has a red tile roof. The wing of the building to the right has a circular lower storey in brick over which, supported by corbels, is an octagonal timber framed upper storey, surmounted by a spire that includes a small dormer. To the left is a wing, entirely in brick, with a polygonal apse-like end, multiple windows in the upper storey, and a finial on the apex of its roof.

The Battle of Chester (Old Welsh: Guaith Caer Legion; Welsh: Brwydr Caer) was a major victory for the Anglo-Saxons over the native Britons near the city of Chester, England in the early 7th century. Æthelfrith of Northumbria annihilated a combined force from the Welsh kingdoms of Powys and Rhôs (a cantref of the Kingdom of Gwynedd), and possibly from Mercia as well. It resulted in the deaths of Welsh leaders Selyf Sarffgadau of Powys and Cadwal Crysban of Rhôs. Circumstantial evidence suggests that King Iago of Gwynedd may have also been killed. Other sources state the battle may have been in 613 or even as early as 607 or 605 AD. According to Bede, a large number of monks from the monastery at Bangor on Dee who had come to witness the fight were killed on the orders of Æthelfrith before the battle. He told his warriors to massacre the clerics because although they bore no arms, they were praying for a Northumbria defeat.The strategic significance of the battle remains unclear as Æthelfrith died in battle soon after the victory. However other historical accounts hold that Æthelfrith died in 616 AD by Rædwald of East Anglia, at the Battle of the River Idle. It has been suggested that Cearl, the Anglo-Saxon king of Mercia, may have also been involved and shared in the Britons' defeat because his overkingship of eastern Wales and Mercia effectively ended until the rise of his successor, Penda by 633.

Heronbridge Roman Site is the remains of a Roman settlement on both sides of Watling Street, about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) south of Chester in Cheshire, England, with evidence of industrial activity (furnaces) in the late 1st and 2nd centuries. The site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

In 2001 it had a population of 7. The parish included the site of The King's School. The civil parish was abolished in 2015 to form Eaton and Eccleston.In 1086, Claverton was recorded in the Domesday Book as Cleventone. The landowner was Hugh FitzOsbern. With a population of 21 households, it was amongst the largest 40% of settlements recorded in the census.Throughout the nineteenth century the population was recorded as 0. The Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Claverton as "an uninhabited extra-parochial tract in Great Boughton district".
