It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. When the French architect Paul Sédille saw it, he exclaimed "C'est un petit château!" That is, "This is a small castle!"

Eccleston is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Eaton and Eccleston, in the borough of Cheshire West and Chester, in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. The village is approximately 2.7 miles (4.3 km) to the south of the city of Chester, near to the River Dee. The village is situated on the estate of the Duke of Westminster who maintains his ancestral home at nearby Eaton Hall. According to the 2001 census, the population of the parish was 184. The population of the civil parish was recorded as 246 in the 2011 census.

The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Chester and the deanery of Chester. Its benefice is combined with that of St Mary, Pulford. The Dukes of Westminster are buried in the adjacent Old Churchyard.

Church Cottage stands in the corner of the churchyard of St Mary's Church in the village of Eccleston, Cheshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.The cottage was built in 1870 for the 3rd Marquess of Westminster and designed by the Chester architect John Douglas. It is constructed in brown brick with stone dressings and a red tile roof. The roof is steep and has gables at each end; the gables are timber-framed and tile-hung. The cottage has 1½ storeys and two bays. The surviving original windows have stone mullions. The timber-framed gable is described as being "plain and simple" with "an unusually high proportion of white plaster to dark timber".

The Monument to Hugh, Earl Grosvenor, is in the graveyard of St Mary's Church, Eccleston, Cheshire, England. It commemorates the brief life of the only son of Hugh Grosvenor, 2nd Duke of Westminster, who died at the age of four. The monument consists of an enclosure in bronze around his grave, and incorporates three bronze figures. It was designed by Detmar Blow, possibly assisted by Fernand Billerey, and the sculptor was Emile Madeline. The monument is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Stud Lodge is a building in the grounds of Eaton Hall, Cheshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.Stud Lodge was built in 1881–82 as a store shed and domestic offices for the 1st Duke of Westminster on his estate at Eaton Hall and designed by the Chester architect John Douglas. It is built in two storeys in red brick with some timber framing and has a red tile roof. The wing of the building to the right has a circular lower storey in brick over which, supported by corbels, is an octagonal timber framed upper storey, surmounted by a spire that includes a small dormer. To the left is a wing, entirely in brick, with a polygonal apse-like end, multiple windows in the upper storey, and a finial on the apex of its roof.

Upper Belgrave Lodge is a house at the east end of Belgrave Avenue, the road connecting the B5445 road between Chester and Wrexham, and Eaton Hall, Cheshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

The Battle of Chester (Old Welsh: Guaith Caer Legion; Welsh: Brwydr Caer) was a major victory for the Anglo-Saxons over the native Britons near the city of Chester, England in the early 7th century. Æthelfrith of Northumbria annihilated a combined force from the Welsh kingdoms of Powys and Rhôs (a cantref of the Kingdom of Gwynedd), and possibly from Mercia as well. It resulted in the deaths of Welsh leaders Selyf Sarffgadau of Powys and Cadwal Crysban of Rhôs. Circumstantial evidence suggests that King Iago of Gwynedd may have also been killed. Other sources state the battle may have been in 613 or even as early as 607 or 605 AD. According to Bede, a large number of monks from the monastery at Bangor on Dee who had come to witness the fight were killed on the orders of Æthelfrith before the battle. He told his warriors to massacre the clerics because although they bore no arms, they were praying for a Northumbria defeat.The strategic significance of the battle remains unclear as Æthelfrith died in battle soon after the victory. However other historical accounts hold that Æthelfrith died in 616 AD by Rædwald of East Anglia, at the Battle of the River Idle. It has been suggested that Cearl, the Anglo-Saxon king of Mercia, may have also been involved and shared in the Britons' defeat because his overkingship of eastern Wales and Mercia effectively ended until the rise of his successor, Penda by 633.

The Golden Gates at Eaton Hall, Cheshire, England, stand at the eastern end of Belgrave Avenue (grid reference SJ412607). The gates with their overthrow, the screens at their sides and the associated wing lodges are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. The gates stand in front of what was formerly the principal entrance to the forecourt of the hall. The central pair of gates and the adjacent screen railings date from the early 18th century and are by Robert and John Davies of Croes Foel. The further side gates and screens, dating from around 1880, were designed by Alfred Waterhouse and made by Skidmore of Coventry. At the extremities is a pair of lodges, which are also dated around 1880, and by Alfred Waterhouse. The lodges are designed in a French Renaissance style. They are in one storey and have one room, with a sentry-box-like porch at the front. The roofs are steeply hipped, and at the eaves is a corbelled balustrade.
