Riesa station

Riesa (Upper Sorbian: Ryzawa) is a town in the district of Meißen in Saxony, Germany. It is located on the river Elbe, approximately 40 kilometres (25 miles) northwest of Dresden.

The Döllnitz is a river of Saxony, Germany. It flows through the towns Mügeln and Oschatz, and joins the river Elbe in Riesa.

The Sachsen Arena (often styled SACHSENarena) is a sports arena in Riesa, Germany. It opened in 2004. Under a sponsorship deal in effect until 2012, it was originally named Erdgas Arena. It holds 5,500 people. It is primarily used for ice hockey. It is used for many world level dance competitions called the World Dance Championships run by the International Dance Organization, including a showdance and tap dance competition in which representatives of as many as 50 different countries vie to become "World Champion". This is the only official world championships and is recognized as being "the Olympics of dance". Since 2015, it has also been the home of the International Darts Open, one of the many events of the PDC European Tour.

The Jahna is a river of Saxony, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Elbe, which it joins in Riesa.

Zeithain is a municipality in the district of Meißen, in Saxony, Germany. Historically, it is known for the Zeithain Encampment (Zeithainer Zeltlager or Zeithainer Lustlager), which was a huge agglomeration of tents and troops, involving the whole 27,000-men-strong army of August the Strong. This event took place from 1 to 26 June 1730.During World War II, a large prisoner-of-war camp, Stalag IV-B/H, was located in Zeithain. A memorial and museum commemorate it.The first encounter of US and Soviet troops on German soil occurred on Elbe Day, 25 April 1945, at 12 p.m. on the banks of the Elbe in the village of Lorenzkirch, Zeithain. There is a memorial stone commemorating this event.

Leopold III of Belgium and his family were held in Castle Hirschstein from June 1944 to March 1945 by the Nazis.

Liebschützberg is a municipality in the district Nordsachsen, in Saxony, Germany. Until 1991 the territory of Liebschützberg and its 1,600 residents were part of the town of Borna. During the administrative reform of Saxony which followed the reunification of Germany Liebschützberg became an independent self-governing community (gemeinde), effective December 31, 1990. The experience of municipal reform in Liebschützberg is a subject of a study by Andreas Kretschmar (who is, since 2001, mayor of nearby Oschatz).
