Henry County Courthouse (Georgia)

The McDonough Historic District, in McDonough, Georgia, is a 200-acre (81 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. It is centered on Griffin St. and Keys Ferry St. and has buildings dating back to 1823. The district includes 187 contributing buildings, one contributing structure, one contributing site, and a contributing object, as well as 71 non-contributing buildings. The district includes most of historic McDonough, including the separately NRHP-listed Henry County Courthouse and the courthouse square.Specifically it includes:

Globe Hotel in McDonough, Georgia, USA, also known as Dunn House, was built in 1827 and expanded in the late 1800s. It is a two-story frame building. In the 1930s, the building was moved about one block from its original location facing the courthouse square. It has some elements of Stick/Eastlake architecture in the newer section. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The Brown House in McDonough, Georgia, at 71 Macon Street (U.S. 23 and Georgia Route 42), was built in 1826. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. It has also been known as the Brown House Hotel.A small house on the property was built in 1826. The second story and the two-story portico were added as part of a major expansion in 1883, when it was owned by Mrs. Asa Brown. It served as a hotel from some time around 1874 to 1883, until some later date.It is also a contributing building in the McDonough Historic District. It now houses the Genealogical Society of Henry and Clayton Counties, Inc. and its Family Research Library.

The Lawrenceville Street Historic District, in McDonough, Georgia, is a 25 acres (10 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. It included 27 contributing buildings and a contributing structure.It consists of houses along a street which arcs northeast and east from the Henry County Courthouse. These include: House at 34 Lawrenceville Street (c.1900), a New South cottage with "the complex massing of a Queen Anne cottage and a central hall" C.W. Walker House (1888), 56 Lawrenceville Street, a two-story, three-bay Georgian House at 61 Lawrenceville Street (c.1890), a central-hall plan house with a Greek Revival-style porch and a steeply pitched Gothic Revival-style cross-gable roof House at 97 Lawrenceville Street (1904), "an excellent example of a Georgian-plan cottage" House at 215 Lawrenceville Street (1916), Renaissance Revival-style This is the Turner House, pictured above.However, as of 2019, the first three of these have been demolished.

McDonough is a city in Henry County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Its population was 22,084 at the 2010 census, up from 8,493 in 2000. The city is the county seat of Henry County. The unincorporated communities of Blacksville, Flippen, Kelleytown, and Ola are located near McDonough, and addresses in those communities have McDonough ZIP Codes.

Henry County High School was a public high school hosting grades 9–12, located in McDonough, Georgia, United States, and operated by the Henry County School District. The school is located in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Enrollment was around 1,100. The high school's campus included the Henry County Performing Arts Center and the Henry County Academy for Advanced Studies. It had recently seen major renovations and additions to its facilities, and as a result became the largest public high school in Henry County. Henry County High School students were relocated to the newly built McDonough High School following the conclusion of the 2018–2019 school year.

Henry County is located in the north central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. Per the 2020 census, the population of Henry County is 240,712, up from 203,922 in 2010. The county seat is McDonough. The county was named for Patrick Henry.Henry County is part of the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, GA metropolitan statistical area. The Henry County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Camp Creek train wreck was a railroad disaster that took place on 23 June 1900 just outside McDonough, Georgia. The northbound Southern Railway train hit a washout 1.5 miles north of the town, plunging 60 feet into the swollen creek below before bursting into flames, killing 35 of the 45 aboard the train.

The Henry County Library System (HCLS) is a public library system consisting of five branches in Henry County, Georgia. The five branches are located in the towns of Stockbridge, Hampton, Locust Grove, and McDonough. HCLS is a member of PINES, a program of the Georgia Public Library Service that covers 53 library systems in 143 counties of Georgia. Any resident in a PINES supported library system has access to over 10.6 million books in the system's circulation. The library is also serviced by GALILEO, a program of the University System of Georgia which stands for "GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online". This program offers residents in supported libraries access to over 100 databases indexing thousands of periodicals and scholarly journals. It also boasts over 10,000 journal titles in full text.The library also has an agreement with Gordon State College to combine resources to better serve the students at the school. The McDonough branch additionally allows access to classroom space, computers, and other resource assistance on an as-needed basis for students.

Blacksville is an unincorporated community in Henry County, Georgia, United States. At the 2000 census it was recorded as a census-designated place (CDP), with a population of four. It was no longer a CDP at the 2010 census. Blacksville is named after the Black family of McDonough, Georgia, their family were one of the early pioneers to move to the village of McDonough where Blacksville is now located today. The segregation-era black high school for Henry County was in Blacksville and is now used as Henry County Middle School. Most of the community was subsequently annexed by nearby McDonough.

South Point is a shopping center in McDonough, Georgia. The mall opened in 2008 with JCPenney and Kohl's. Hobby Lobby and Hilton Garden Inn joined the tenant mix in 2009 and shortly after Academy Sports + Outdoors. Since opening their doors, these stores have repeatedly ranked as top performing in the region, drawing shoppers from as far away as 30 mi (48 km).TJ Maxx, Toys "R" Us and Haverty's were all confirmed and opened as anchors in 2012. Other stores that opened over the past couple years include ULTA, Party City, and Five Below. Rooms to Go began construction in the 4th quarter of 2013 and have plans to open by the late summer of 2014. Freddy’s announced that they would be building a new restaurant in the center with a planned opening of May 2014.

Flippen is an unincorporated community in Henry County, Georgia, United States. Flippen is within the postal limits of McDonough and as such, most residents list McDonough as their city.
