The Spaghetti House siege took place between 28 September and 3 October 1975. An attempted robbery of the Spaghetti House restaurant in Knightsbridge, London, went wrong and the police were quickly on the scene. The three robbers took the staff down into a storeroom and barricaded themselves in. They released all the hostages unharmed after six days. Two of the gunmen gave themselves up; the ringleader, Franklin Davies, shot himself in the stomach. All three were later imprisoned, as were two of their accomplices. The three robbers had been involved in black liberation organisations and, from the earliest stages of the siege and throughout their subsequent prison sentences, they claimed that they were acting for political reasons. The police did not believe them, and stated that this was a criminal act, not a political one. The police used fibre optic camera technology for live surveillance, and monitored the actions and conversations of the gunmen from the audio and visual output. The feed was watched by a forensic psychiatrist who advised police on the state of the men's minds, and how to best manage the ongoing negotiations.

William Mews is a mews street in Knightsbridge, London. It is named after William Lowndes of the local landowning Lowndes family. The actress and socialite Elvira Barney lived at no 21, and in May 1932, she and Michael Scott Stephen hosted a dinner party, after which Stephen died of bullet wounds and Barney was arrested and charged with murder, but was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter, only convicted for possession of a firearm.Whaddon House, a block of flats at 11-18 William Mews was home in the 1960s to The Beatles, Brian Epstein and Pattie Boyd.The banker and businessman Stephen Catto, 2nd Baron Catto (1923-2001) lived at no 41.

Whaddon House is a block of flats in William Mews, Knightsbridge, London, England. Standing near the east side of Lowndes Square, the building runs north to south, parallel with and between the square and Kinnerton Street. From early 1964 to 1965, the British pop group The Beatles lived in Flat 7, and also Flat 5 and Flat 6 at some point. From late 1963, their manager Brian Epstein lived there in a top-floor flat, as did Pattie Boyd, who would later marry George Harrison.

The hotel was damaged in a fire on 6 June 2018 which was mainly confined to the exterior courtyard area of the hotel with limited impact on the interiors and was temporarily closed.

When he left in December 2019, Jon Miles-Bowring became Head Chef. Menu items are based on historical British dishes, which were researched by food historians and through the British Library. The restaurant's opening drew interest within the industry, and reviews have been positive. Particular dishes have received praise, including the "meat fruit", a chicken liver mousse created to look like a mandarin orange.
