Pleasington railway station

Pleasington () is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire, England. It had a population of 467 in the 2001 census, reducing to 446 at the 2011 census.It is a rural village set on a hillside above the River Darwen. The village was listed in the Domesday Book as Plesigtune, a name which means "a settlement owned by Plessa's People".Pleasington railway station is on the East Lancashire Line with trains to destinations including the nearby towns of Blackburn and Preston. The Roman Catholic Church of St Mary and St John Baptist [1] in the village is known as Pleasington Priory and was built between 1816 and 1819 in a Gothic style. It is one of only two Grade I Listed buildings in the borough of Blackburn with Darwen.Pleasington Old Hall is another historic building, built in 1587, and is Grade II Listed. A nature reserve[2] near the hall was declared in 2006.Also near the village is Pleasington Playing Fields, a large outdoor sports facility with 12 football pitches opened in 1963 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh as King George's Fields. Witton Country Park is connected to the playing fields by a bridge over the River Darwen. Overlooking the area is Pleasington Cemetery, the main cemetery and crematorium for the Blackburn area. Pleasington is on the National Cycle Network Route 6, one of the main national bicycle routes in the UK, which is planned to connect Windsor to the Lake District.

It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. The architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner describes it as being "an astonishing church", and the citation in the National Heritage List for England states it is an "exceptional form of Catholic chapel for the period before Emancipation".

The school became fully coeducational in 2018. Westholme's motto is ‘MENS SANA IN CORPORE SANO' meaning ‘A healthy mind in a healthy body'. Dr Richard Robson is the current principal of the school.

Cherry Tree railway station serves Cherry Tree in the Blackburn with Darwen borough of Lancashire, England. The station is 1.9 miles (3 km) southwest of Blackburn railway station. It is managed by Northern, who also provide all the passenger services calling there. The station is a two platform stop situated on the A674 road for Blackburn and was opened soon after the Blackburn to Preston line, in 1847. The former Lancashire Union Railway branch line to Chorley, Wigan and St Helens Shaw Street (opened in 1869) diverged a short distance to the west of the station, but this closed to passengers on 4 January 1960 and completely in 1966.The station is unstaffed, all of its permanent buildings having been demolished (shelters still survive on both platforms). Only the western end of each platform is now used, with the sections east of the bridge on both sides now derelict. It has been refurbished in recent years, with a Community Rail Lancashire and local authority-sponsored cleanup & repair project carried out by local schoolchildren, college students, volunteers and council workers in 2014. The station has a long-line PA system and digital information screens in place to provide train running information. It also has full step-free access to both platforms for disabled passengers.As of January 2018, along with other Stations on this line, a new touch screen Ticket Machine was added to the Station.

Billinge Hill is a prominent 246-metre-high (807 ft) wooded hill on the western edge of the town of Blackburn in the borough of Blackburn with Darwen in northwest England. Access to its summit from nearby roads is by various public footpaths, some of which also serve as concessionary bridleways. Immediately below its southern slopes are a series of copses linked by paths, which together with the hill form Witton Country Park. Billinge Hill, like the nearby hill on which Hoghton Tower stands, is formed from a band of the hard-wearing Revidge Grit, a sandstone within the Carboniferous age Millstone Grit.

Witton Country Park is a 480-acre (1.9 km2) public park in the west of Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Around half of the country park is mixed woodland and parkland, while the rest is either farmland or rough grassland with open access. A visitors' centre features stables with exhibitions of old horse-drawn farm machinery, farm hand-tools and a natural history room. A mammal centre houses shrews, voles, ferrets, rabbits and other animals, which are on display.
