Prahran (IPA: ), also pronounced colloquially as Pran, is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 5 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Stonnington local government area. At the 2016 Census Prahran had a population of 12,982. Prahran is a part of Greater Melbourne, with many shops, restaurants and cafes. Chapel Street is a mix of upscale fashion boutiques and cafes. Greville Street, once the centre of the Melbourne's hippie community, has many cafés, bars, restaurants, bookstores, clothing shops and music shops. Prahran takes its name from Pur-ra-ran, a Boonwurrung word which was thought to mean "land partially surrounded by water". When naming began the suburbs spelling was intended to be Praharan and pronounced Pur-ra-ran, but a spelling mistake on a government form lead to the name Prahran. More recently the word Pur-ra-ran has been identified as a transcription of "Birrarung", the name for the Yarra River, or a specific point of it.

Chapel Off Chapel is a theatre venue in Prahran, Melbourne. Located near Chapel Street and opened in 1995, the venue consists of the 255-seat Chapel Theatre, the 150-seat Chapel Loft and a visual arts gallery. Chapel Off Chapel is particularly associated with independent music theatre and cabaret. It has hosted independent productions of musicals, many as Australian premieres, including Dogfight, tick, tick... BOOM!, Violet, The Color Purple, Thrill Me, John & Jen, Avenue Q, In the Heights, Loving Repeating, Blood Brothers, Hair, It's Only Life!, Gutenberg! The Musical!, Zanna, Don't!, Is There Life After High School?, Bat Boy, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, The Last 5 Years, Hello Again, Songs for a New World, Kooky Tunes, And The World Goes Round, Putting It Together, Lucky Stiff and Closer Than Ever. Australian musicals performed at Chapel Off Chapel include Prodigal Son, Life's A Circus, Only Heaven Knows, Tea with Oscar, Joe Starts Again and All Het Up. Chapel Off Chapel also regularly hosts Home Grown, a showcase for new Australian musical theatre works. Performers who have appeared at Home Grown events include Todd McKenney, Amanda Harrison, Lucy Durack, Virginia Gay and Kerrie Anne Greenland.The bluestone building is converted from the former Independent Church, built in 1858-9.

The Prahran Arcade, located at 282 Chapel Street, Prahran, is one of the most opulent Victorian era commercial buildings in Melbourne, Australia. Opening in 1890, it is the only grandly scaled arcade outside the central city, and has had many notable occupants.

Hawksburn railway station is located on the Frankston line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of South Yarra, and opened on 7 May 1879.The station is named after the Hawksburn Estate, in which it was built.The current station buildings were completed in 1914, as part of the quadruplication and grade separation of the railway between South Yarra and Caulfield.

Prahran Town Hall is a civic building located on the corner of Chapel Street and Greville Street in Prahran, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. After the amalgamation of the City of Prahran with the City of Malvern in 1994 to form the City of Stonnington, the Town Hall now functions as secondary offices for the new City. The original Town Hall was built in 1861 to the design of local architects Crouch and Wilson in the Italianate style of Victorian architecture popular in Melbourne at the time, including Italian Renaissance inspired interior spaces. The building was extended in 1888 to include a City Hall in a similar style. The clock tower was designed by Charles D'Ebro and built in 1890 above the municipal offices and council chambers for the former City of Prahran. In the 1960s, the decorative tower was truncated.

Pran Central is a heritage-listed seven storey Edwardian baroque architectural style former department store, built in 1915 as Read’s Store, comprising a shopping centre with apartments above. The building is located on the corner of Chapel Street and Commercial Road in the well-known retail precinct of Prahran, a suburb in the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The shopping centre occupies the lower ground, ground floor and first floor mezzanine, with approximately 45 specialty stores along with a food court.

The Prahran Fire Station, also known as the Former Prahran Fire Station, is a historic fire station in Prahran, Victoria. It is a two-storey brick building and has an attached brick watchtower. It was built in 1889 and was considered advanced for its time, although its location on narrow Macquarie Street was difficult for fire apparatus to get out from, onto Chapel Street.

Obese Records was a record label that released music from the Australian hip hop genre. It was the largest Australian independent hip hop label, including performers Pegz, Thundamentals and Dialectrix. Obese Records also operated two retail stores in Melbourne, a record distribution company, a soul imprint named Plethora Records, and operates the artists' management and touring company Obese Records Artist Management.

Presentation College, Windsor was an independent Roman Catholic, secondary, day school for girls, located in Windsor, an inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The school was founded in 1873. The brother school of Presentation College, Windsor (PCW) is the Christian Brothers College, St Kilda (CBC), located adjacent to PCW.

Prahran Mechanics' Institute (PMI) is a community-owned subscription library situated at 39 St Edmonds Road, Prahran, Victoria, Australia. The library focuses on collecting resources about every locality in Victoria and every aspect of the history of the state. The library was previously situated in High Street, Prahran from 1915 to 2014 and Chapel Street, Prahran from 1854 to 1915. It is one of the oldest surviving Mechanics' Institutes in Victoria and one of only six still operating as a lending library. It is the only mechanics' institute in Victoria still governed by its own Act of Parliament.The Institute spawned the Prahran Technical School, which went on to be one of Australia's leading art schools.

The Prahran College of Advanced Education, formerly Prahran College of Technology, was a late-secondary and tertiary institution with a business school, a trade school, and a multi-disciplinary art school that dated back to the 1860s, populated by instructors and students who were among Australia’s significant artists, designers and performers. After undergoing various mergers, splits and incarnations over the years, the Prahran entity ceased to exist from 1 January 1992, when an Act of Parliament brought Prahran College of TAFE under the auspices of Swinburne University of Technology, with the only tertiary courses, Graphics and Industrial Design, remaining on the campus. All others were moved to Deakin University, except Prahran Fine Art, which was relocated and amalgamated with the Victorian College of the Arts.
