Lyng, Norfolk

Sparham Pools is a 12.2-hectare (30-acre) nature reserve south of Sparham in Norfolk. It is leased and managed by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.These former gravel pits are now pools which have several islands. Wildfowl include shoveler, gadwall, mallard and tufted duck. Sand martins and common kingfishers breed on the banks and common terns on the islands.There is access from Lyng Road.

For the purposes of local government, it falls within the Upper Wensum Ward of Breckland District Council and the Elmham and Mattishall Division of Norfolk County Council. The villages name means 'spar homestead/village' or 'spar hemmed-in land'. Sparham is one of the highest points in Norfolk, and the top of the church tower has views of the surrounding countryside for several miles. The hamlet of Sparhamhill lies to its east and south on the main A1067 road.

St Mary's is an Anglican parish church in Elsing, a small village and civil parish in the Breckland district of Norfolk, England. The 14th-century church was built to a single plan in Decorated Gothic style by a local knight and has remained largely unaltered to the present day. The church contains a brass monument of national importance, a tall medieval font cover and rood screen paintings. The chancel retains some stained glass contemporary with the construction of the building.

Hockering Wood is an 89.5-hectare (221-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Dereham in Norfolk.This is one of the largest areas of ancient, semi-natural woodland in the county. It has many rare species, especially of bryophytes, and there are ponds which have populations of great crested newts, a protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.The site is private, but is publicly accessable between April and August

Whitwell Common is a 19.4-hectare (48-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-east of Dereham in Norfolk.This common in the valley of a tributary of the River Wensum has diverse wetland flora on peat soils. There are also areas of wet alder woodland, fen and unimproved grassland, with grasses such as sheep's fescue and Yorkshire fog.The site is open to the public.

Bawdeswell is a small rural village and civil parish in Norfolk, England. At the time of the 2011 census it had a population of 828 and an area of 487 hectares. The village is situated almost in the centre of Norfolk about 14 miles (23 km) northwest of Norwich. For the purposes of local government it falls within the Upper Wensum Ward of Breckland District Council and the Elmham and Mattishall Division of Norfolk County Council. It is on a Roman road that ran east–west between Durobrivae near modern Peterborough and Smallburgh, crossing the Fen Causeway. The village is recorded in the Domesday Book as Balderwella. It was the home of Chaucer's Reeve in The Reeve's Prologue and Tale in the Canterbury Tales. Its parish church, All Saints', was rebuilt after its Victorian church was destroyed in World War II when hit by a crashing de Havilland Mosquito bomber.

Foxley Wood is a nature reserve in Foxley, Norfolk, England, the largest ancient woodland and coppice in Norfolk. The Norfolk Wildlife Trust, which manages this reserve, bought it in 1998. It is 123 hectares (300 acres) in size. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade 2, and a National Nature Reserve.

Bylaugh is a civil parish in Norfolk, England 4.5 miles (7.2 km) north-east of East Dereham and 13.5 miles (21.7 km) WNW of Norwich. For the purposes of local government it falls within the Upper Wensum Ward of Breckland District Council and the Elmham and Mattishall Division of Norfolk County Council. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 65. At the 2011 census the population remained less than 100 and was included in the civil parish of Sparham. The villages name origin is uncertain, it possibly could mean, 'funeral-pyre enclosure', or with a first element bel, perhaps meaning 'wood/clearing/island' and not otherwise evidenced in Old English.
