Abingdon Historic District

St. Thomas Episcopal Church is a historic parish of the Episcopal Church in Abingdon, Virginia, within the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia.

Located in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia, Mont Calm — also known as Montcalm — is a historic house. It is a two-story, five-bay brick farmhouse constructed in the Federal style that dates back to 1827. Its two-story extension, which was added in approximately 1905, is 40 feet long and 30 feet broad. A standing seam metal gable roof covers the home, which has a limestone base. A porch with a shed roof and Tuscan order columns supports the front facade. Virginia Governor David Campbell lived there (1779–1859).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The Martha Washington Inn is a historic hotel located in Abingdon, Virginia. Originally built in 1832 by General Francis Preston, hero of the War of 1812, for his family of nine children, over the course of the last 174 years, the building has served as an upscale women's college, a Civil War hospital and barracks, and as a residence for visiting actors of the Barter Theatre. In addition to hotel services, the inn now offers spa treatments. Many people say the house might be haunted by ghosts from the area. The Martha Washington Hotel & Spa is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

It was built about 1845, and is a two-story Greek Revival / Late Victorian style brick building. It originally housed the residence of the cashier and his family in one part, and the bank, counting room, and vault were in the other.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969 and is located within the Abingdon Historic District.

Dr. William H. Pitts House is a historic home located at Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia. It was built in 1854, and is a two-story, five-bay, stuccoed masonry, Greek Revival style dwelling. The house sits on a limestone foundation and has a gable roof with stepped-gable parapet walls flanking paired chimneys on each end. It has a recessed entrance which features a double-leaf wood entrance door surrounded by a transom and sidelights.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002 and is located within the Abingdon Historic District.

David Campbell (August 7, 1779 – March 19, 1859) was a Virginia merchant, soldier, farmer, and politician who became the 27th Governor of Virginia, serving from 1837 to 1840.

The William King Museum of Art (WKMA) is a visual arts and cultural heritage museum located in Abingdon, Virginia. It is housed in a historic 1913 former school building. The William King Museum of Art features galleries showcasing art of the region and of the world, both contemporary and historic. The museum also features resident artist studios, an outdoor sculpture garden, and the VanGogh Educational Outreach Program. The William King Museum of Art is a partner of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and a member of the American Alliance of Museums, the Virginia Association of Museums, and the Southeastern Museums Conference.

Virginia Highlands Community College is a public community college in Abingdon, Virginia. It is part of the Virginia Community College System. The college was established November 30, 1967 to serve the residents of Washington County, western Smyth County, and the city of Bristol. Over 3,000 students are enrolled each semester.
