Blackwell is an unincorporated community in Washington County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. Crabtree-Blackwell Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

It is part of the Kingsport-Bristol-Bristol, TN-VA MSA, which is a component of the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol, TN-VA Combined Statistical Area – commonly known as the "Tri-Cities" region. The Emory post office was established in 1847.

It is part of the Kingsport–Bristol (TN)–Bristol (VA) Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol, TN-VA Combined Statistical Area – commonly known as the "Tri-Cities" region. As of the 2010 census it was split into Emory and Meadow View CDPs.

Emory & Henry University (E&H or EHU) is a private university in Emory, Virginia, United States. The campus lies on 335 acres (1.36 km2) of Washington County, which is part of the Appalachian highlands of Southwest Virginia. Founded in 1836, EHU is the oldest institution of higher learning in Southwest Virginia. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Meadowview (listed as Meadow View by the Census Bureau in 2010) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washington County, Virginia, United States. The population was 861 at the 2020 census. down from 967 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kingsport-Bristol-Bristol, TN-VA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Johnson City-Kingsport-Bristol, TN-VA Combined Statistical Area – commonly known as the "Tri-Cities" region. Meadowview and nearby Emory were previously a single Census-designated place listed as Meadowview-Emory, Virginia. For the 2010 census onwards they are listed as two separate.

Edmondson Hall was built in 1856 just outside Meadowview, this brick, Greek Revival house has withstood time very well. William Campbell Edmondson, an early pioneer and merchant, built the house, and the original parcel included 383 acres (1.55 km2) in the fertile valley. On June 11, 1998, the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Patrick Henry High School is a public high school in Glade Spring, Virginia. It was built in 1960 as a result of the consolidation of Glade Spring High School and Meadowview High School and named after Founding Father Patrick Henry. The school is located on a 32 acre campus in Glade Spring, Virginia. .

Brook Hall is a historic home located at Glade Spring, Washington County, Virginia. It was built about 1830, and is a large two-story, five-bay, "T" plan, Federal style brick dwelling. The house has a four-bay, two-story brick wing. The interior retains spectacular carved woodwork as well as very early, possibly original, paint on woodgrained doors and marbled mantels and baseboards. Also on the property is a contributing spring house.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. It is currently for sell.

Glade Spring Commercial Historic District is the downtown core of the Town of Glade Spring, a community of 1,500 residents in northeastern Washington County, Virginia, less than three miles southwest of the Smyth County line. Located on the gently rolling floor of the Valley of Virginia (trending southwest–northeast), the town is surrounded by agricultural lands interspersed with clumps of woodland. The rugged southwest end of Walker Mountain is one mile to the northwest and Little Mountain four miles farther; the Iron Mountains define the opposite side of the Valley about seven miles to the southeast. On May 28, 2013, the "Town Square" was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Glade Spring Commercial Historic District includes twenty-four primary resources and two secondary resources. Of the twenty-four primary resources, twenty-one are contributing and three are non-contributing to the eligibility of the historic district. Primary resources include sixteen commercial buildings (only three of which are noncontributing), one warehouse, one bank, one office building, one hotel, one meeting hall, one town hall, one post office, and one multiple dwelling. Secondary resources consist of one walkway and one shed (both contributing).
