Barrow Court

The Church of St Mary and St Edward is an Anglican parish church in Barrow Gurney, Somerset, England. It was built in the 12th century, but largely rebuilt in the 1880s, and has been designated as a Grade II* listed building.The church was originally connected to the neighbouring Barrow Gurney Nunnery which became Barrow Court. It was originally built in the 12th century but was virtually rebuilt by Henry Woodyer 1887–90 for Henry Martin Gibbs son of William Gibbs of Tyntesfield. It has a three-stage west tower surmounted by pinnacles and a spirelet. There is a two bay chancel, with a Cosmati work floor and four bay nave. In 2013 an appeal was made for funds to help make repairs to the church including redecoration and servicing of the organ, which was largely unchanged since its construction by Vowles of Bristol around 1890.The parish is part of the benefice of Long Ashton with Barrow Gurney and Flax Bourton within the deanery of Portishead, and the archdeaconry of Bath.

Flax Bourton railway station was a railway station on the Bristol to Exeter line, 5 miles 49 chains (9.03 km) from Bristol Temple Meads, serving the village of Flax Bourton in North Somerset. It opened in 1860, and was closed by the Beeching Axe in 1964.

Stancombe Quarry is a quarry at Flax Bourton near Backwell in the North Somerset district of Somerset, England. The quarry which is operated by Tarmac produces Carboniferous Limestone, which is mainly for use on the roads, after crushing on site. The site has an expected output of 28 million tonnes over a 25-year period.In 1999 the car park at the quarry was used as a test site for a porous asphalt pavement.In June 2010, an explosion involving a lorry injured two people in Stancombe Quarry. The A370 road was closed but opened the following day.

Flax Bourton is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England. The parish, with a population of 715, is situated within the unitary authority of North Somerset, on the edge of Nailsea Moor on the A370 road 5 miles (8.0 km) south west of Bristol city centre. The village has a primary school, one pub named The Jubilee Inn, a church dating back to Norman times and is the home of Backwell Flax Bourton Cricket Club.

The North Somerset Show is an agricultural show held annually in May at Wraxall, North Somerset, England. It is organised by the North Somerset Agricultural Society.

Gatcombe at Ashton Watering within the civil parish of Long Ashton, Somerset, England, is the location of a Grade II* listed building which was built on the site of a Roman settlement. It is close to the Land Yeo river, the A370 road and the Bristol to Exeter railway line.

Lulsgate Quarry (grid reference ST516659) is a 2¾ acre (1.13 hectare) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest near the village of Felton, North Somerset, notified in 1997. The site has an excellent exposure of an irregular unconformity surface lying between inclined Lower Carboniferous (Dinantian) Black Rock limestones and flat-bedded Upper Triassic (Rhaetian) strata.

Barrow Gurney Nunnery (also called Minchin Barrow) was established around 1200 in Barrow Gurney Somerset, England. The Benedictine convent was founded by one of the Fitz-Hardinges (or Fitzhardinge), and in 1212, was left 10 marks in the will of Hugh de Wells. The nunnery also received a pension on the church of Twerton by the time of the Taxatio in 1291. Several other donations of money and land had been received by the Valor of 1535 when the property was assessed as worth £29 6s. 8½d. on which there were charges of £5 12s. 4¾d., leaving a clear value of £23 14s. 3¾d.The nunnery was still poor and by 1398 had transferred from the Diocese of Wells to the Diocese of Llandaff.At the dissolution of the monasteries in 1536 its value was £31. The area and buildings were granted by Henry VIII to John Drew, of Bristol, who converted it into a private mansion, renamed Barrow Court.

Backwell House, in Backwell, Somerset, England is a house of historical significance and is listed on the English Heritage Register. The house and entrance gates are also Grade II listed buildings. It was built in about 1813 by a prominent lawyer and was the residence of several notable people until about 1860. From then it became the home of the Robinson family who were famous cricketers remembered by people such as W. G. Grace. It was operated as a boutique hotel from 2016 to 2022.

Failand is a village in Somerset, England. It lies within the civil parish of Wraxall and Failand and the unitary authority area of North Somerset. The village has two separate parts. Failand itself is on the B3128 Bristol to Clevedon road, and is the newer and larger part. Lower Failand, a mile away, is the original village (shown as Fayland on old maps). Lower Failand can be reached by single track lanes only. Failand is home to a general store, a pub (The Failand Inn), an observatory, a church and a well used village hall.

Barrow Gurney is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated in the unitary authority of North Somerset on the B3130, midway between the A38 and A370 near the Long Ashton bypass and Bristol Airport, 5 miles (8.0 km) south west of Bristol city centre. The civil parish includes Barrow Common, and has a population of 349.It is close to Barrow Gurney Reservoirs, which supply drinking water for Bristol, and feed the Land Yeo which runs alongside the B3130 through the village. It was also the site of Barrow Hospital.
