Stancombe Quarry

Backwell House, in Backwell, Somerset, England is a house of historical significance and is listed on the English Heritage Register. The house and entrance gates are also Grade II listed buildings. It was built in about 1813 by a prominent lawyer and was the residence of several notable people until about 1860. From then it became the home of the Robinson family who were famous cricketers remembered by people such as W. G. Grace. It was operated as a boutique hotel from 2016 to 2022.

Flax Bourton is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England. The parish, with a population of 715, is situated within the unitary authority of North Somerset, on the edge of Nailsea Moor on the A370 road 5 miles (8.0 km) south west of Bristol city centre. The Church of St Mary and St Edward is an Anglican parish church in Barrow Gurney, Somerset, England. It was built in the 12th century, but largely rebuilt in the 1880s, and has been designated as a Grade II* listed building.The church was originally connected to the neighbouring Barrow Gurney Nunnery which became Barrow Court. It was originally built in the 12th century but was virtually rebuilt by Henry Woodyer 1887–90 for Henry Martin Gibbs son of William Gibbs of Tyntesfield. It has a three-stage west tower surmounted by pinnacles and a spirelet. There is a two bay chancel, with a Cosmati work floor and four bay nave. In 2013 an appeal was made for funds to help make repairs to the church including redecoration and servicing of the organ, which was largely unchanged since its construction by Vowles of Bristol around 1890.The parish is part of the benefice of Long Ashton with Barrow Gurney and Flax Bourton within the deanery of Portishead, and the archdeaconry of Bath.

St Andrew's Church is an Anglican church in Backwell, Somerset, England. The church building dates back to the 13thcentury, when the nave, aisles and the chancel were built. The church was subsequently altered and enlarged during the 14th to 17th centuries; the 31m-high west tower dates from the 15th century, and the rood screen is from the early 16th century. The church has been a Grade I listed building since 1961.The Parish of St Andrew is part of the benefice of Backwell with Chelvey and Brockley within the deanery of Portishead.A new building attached to the church containing social and office space was added in 1984. There are plans to install solar panels on the roof of the church.

Barrow Court is a manor house in Barrow Gurney, Somerset, England. The site was originally Barrow Gurney Nunnery and was rebuilt in the 16th and 19th centuries. It has been designated as a Grade II* listed building.

Flax Bourton railway station was a railway station on the Bristol to Exeter line, 5 miles 49 chains (9.03 km) from Bristol Temple Meads, serving the village of Flax Bourton in North Somerset. It opened in 1860, and was closed by the Beeching Axe in 1964.

The North Somerset Show is an agricultural show held annually in May at Wraxall, North Somerset, England. It is organised by the North Somerset Agricultural Society.

Backwell School is a secondary academy school in Backwell, Bristol, Somerset, England. It was considered to be one of the best-performing state schools in England, leading results at both GCSE and A level in the area and consistently being rated "Outstanding" by Ofsted. It has now been rated "Good" by Ofsted. The school is a National Teaching School, through which it leads the North Somerset Teaching Alliance, with Healthy School Plus and International School status. Since March 2011 the school has been a self-governing academy convert. It holds the Artsmark Gold award and includes a sixth form. It has 1,738 pupils, of which 387 were in the school's sixth form in 2016, from the age of 11 (year 7) to the age of 18 (year 13). Backwell has previously been a Beacon School, specialist performing and visual arts college and National Training School.

Backwell is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of North Somerset and in 2011 had a population of 4,589. The village lies about 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Bristol, south of the A370 to Weston-super-Mare. The parish includes the hamlets of Backwell Common, Backwell Green, and Backwell Farleigh, and the districts of Backwell West Town and Downside.Nearby are Nailsea, Flax Bourton, Yatton, Brockley and Barrow Gurney.

Lulsgate Quarry (grid reference ST516659) is a 2¾ acre (1.13 hectare) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest near the village of Felton, North Somerset, notified in 1997. The site has an excellent exposure of an irregular unconformity surface lying between inclined Lower Carboniferous (Dinantian) Black Rock limestones and flat-bedded Upper Triassic (Rhaetian) strata.

Bristol Airport (IATA: BRS, ICAO: EGGD), at Lulsgate Bottom, on the northern slopes of the Mendip Hills, in North Somerset, is an international airport serving the city of Bristol, England, and the surrounding area. It is 7 nautical miles (13 km; 8.1 mi) southwest of Bristol city centre. Built on the site of a former RAF airfield, it opened in 1957 as Bristol (Lulsgate) Airport, replacing Bristol (Whitchurch) Airport as Bristol's municipal airport. From 1997 to 2010, it was known as Bristol International Airport. In 1997, a majority shareholding in the airport was sold to FirstGroup, and then in 2001 the airport was sold to a joint venture of Macquarie Bank and others. In September 2014, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan bought out Macquarie to become the sole owner. In 2019, it was ranked the eighth busiest airport (overtaking Glasgow Airport from the previous year) in the United Kingdom, handling over 8.9 million passengers, a 3% increase compared with 2018. A passenger survey carried out in 2015 found that 32.5% of journeys using the airport started or ended in the city of Bristol, 9.6% in Gloucestershire, 24.5% in Somerset and 16.9% in Devon.Airlines with operating bases at the airport include EasyJet and Ryanair. The airport has a Civil Aviation Authority Public Use Aerodrome Licence (number P432) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers and for flying instruction.
