Hückelhoven-Baal station is in the Hückelhoven district of Baal in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia on the Aachen–Mönchengladbach railway. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. With its construction as an interchange station on two levels, it became important as a hub for passenger services, but in recent years it has lost this significance due to the closure of the adjacent section of the Jülich–Dalheim railway. Meanwhile, the passenger station has been reclassified as a halt and it was renamed as Hückelhoven-Baal in 2002. Baal freight yard still exists.

Lindern station is in Lindern in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia on the Aachen–Mönchengladbach railway. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station.Lindern station is at the junction where the Heinsberg–Lindern railway separates from the Aachen–Mönchengladbach railway. Since the points where the line to Heinsberg now branches off the main line is now to the east of the station, it is considered under the German regulations for operating railways (Eisenbahn-Bau- und Betriebsordnung) as a Haltestelle ("halt place"). The Aachen–Mönchengladbach–Düsseldorf rail link is now important for commuters from the nearby area (Heinsberg/Linnich). The Heinsberg–Lindern line was only used for freight transport between 1980 and 2013. Passenger services on the line to Heinsberg were resumed in 2013. Construction in preparation for the resumption of services commenced in Lindern station in 2012.

Puffendorf is a church, village and northeastern district of Baesweiler in the Aachen urban region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located at the intersection of federal highways 56 and 57 of Germany. In November 1944 it was the scene of a major tank engagement between the American 2nd Armored Division and the German 9th Panzer Division as part of Operation Queen .

Aldenhoven (German pronunciation: [ˈaldn̩hoːfn̩]) is a municipality in the district of Düren in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located approximately 5 km south-west of Jülich, 5 km north of Eschweiler and 20 km north-east of Aachen.

The Battle of Aldenhoven (1 March 1793) saw the Habsburg Austrian army commanded by Prince Josias of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld attack a Republican French force under René Joseph de Lanoue. The Austrians successfully crossed the Roer River and engaged in a cavalry charge led by Archduke Charles, Duke of Teschen which routed the French and inflicted heavy losses. The War of the First Coalition battle occurred near Aldenhoven, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany located about 55 kilometres (34 mi) west of Cologne. After a victory in the Battle of Jemappes on 6 November 1792, the French army of Charles Francois Dumouriez conquered most of the Austrian Netherlands. That winter, Dumouriez attempted to overrun the Dutch Republic while Francisco de Miranda besieged Maastricht, covered by Lanoue's troops along the Roer. Sent by the Austrian government to reconquer Belgium, Coburg's troops attacked early on the morning of 1 March and dispersed the French. The Battle of Neerwinden on the 18th of March would decide who controlled the Austrian Netherlands.

The Battle of Aldenhoven or Battle of the Roer (2 October 1794) saw a Republican French army commanded by Jean Baptiste Jourdan defeat a Habsburg army under François Sébastien Charles Joseph de Croix, Count of Clerfayt which was defending the line of the Roer River. A key crossing was won by the French right wing at Düren after heavy fighting. The Austrian retreat from the Roer conceded control of the west bank of the Rhine River to France. The battle occurred during the War of the First Coalition, part of a wider conflict called the Wars of the French Revolution. Aldenhoven is located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany about 21 kilometres (13 mi) northeast of Aachen.

It is situated on the river Rur, approx. 10 km east of Heinsberg, 20 km south-west of Mönchengladbach and approximately 15 km from the border with the Netherlands.
