St. Gallen

St. Gallen railway station (German: Bahnhof St. Gallen) serves the town St. Gallen, the capital of the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. It is located at the junction of the standard gauge St. Gallen–Winterthur, Rorschach–St. Gallen, and Romanshorn–Toggenburg lines of Swiss Federal Railways and the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) gauge Appenzell–St. Gallen–Trogen line of Appenzell Railways.Opened in 1856 and completely rebuilt at the outset of the 20th century, the station is owned and operated by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS), and is the focal point of the St. Gallen S-Bahn. It also serves as a central station to the Appenzell Railways (AB) and many city and urban bus connections in front of the main building.

The Council of the Bishops' Conferences of Europe (Latin: Consilium Conferentiarum Episcoporum Europae;,CCEE) is a conference of the presidents of the 33 Roman Catholic episcopal conferences of Europe, the Archbishop of Luxembourg, the Archbishop of Monaco, Maronite Catholic Archeparch of Cyprus, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Chişinău, the Ruthenian Catholic Eparch of Mukacheve, and the Apostolic Administrator of Estonia.The president is Archbishop Gintaras Grušas, Archbishop of Vilnius. The vice-presidents are Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, Archbishop of Luxembourg, and Bishop László Német, Bishop of Zrenjanin. The general secretary of CCEE is Father Martin Michalíček. The offices of the CCEE Secretariat are located in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

The Swiss Federal Patent Court (German: Bundespatentgericht, French: Tribunal fédéral des brevets, Italian: Tribunale federale dei brevetti, Romansh: Tribunal federal da patentas) is a Swiss federal court competent for particular legal matters, such as patent cases. It has its seat in Sankt Gallen, Switzerland.In Switzerland, the court has exclusive jurisdiction with regard to the Swiss/Liechtenstein unitary patents, whether these unitary patents are European patents or "national" patents, in questions of validity and infringement disputes, preliminary measures and enforcement of decisions made under its exclusive jurisdiction.Appeal is possible (with regard to legal issues) to the Federal Supreme Court. The court started its work in 2012, taking over jurisdiction from 26 individual cantonal courts and consists of panels of both legally and technically qualified judges.The Patent Court was established and is governed by the Patent Court Act (PatCA) (German: Patentgerichtsgesetz, PatGG, French: Loi sur le Tribunal fédéral des brevets, LTFB, Italian: Legge sul Tribunale federale dei brevetti, LTFB), adopted by the Federal Assembly in 2009.

The Sarganserland is a constituency (Wahlkreis) of the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland, with a population of 36,892 (as of 2008). The constituency corresponds to the historical county of Sargans (13th to 15th century) and the later Landvogtei Sargans in the Old Swiss Confederacy (15th to 18th century). Part of the Canton of Linth in the Helvetic Republic, the Sarganserland together with Pfäfers was joined to the canton of St. Gallen at its formation in 1803. Geographically, it includes the land between the Rhine at Sargans (the tripoint of St. Gallen, Grisons and Liechtenstein) and upper Lake Walen, including the Seeztal. The territory of Pfäfers lies along the Tamina, in the Rhine basin, and was not historically part of Sargans county but was independently owned by Pfäfers Abbey, and had been joined to the canton of Linth in 1798.

St. Gallen is a constituency (Wahlkreis) in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. The Wahlkreis (SFOS number 1721) has been established on June 10, 2001 with an area of 157.54 km2 (60.83 sq mi). The Wahlkreis takes its name from the city of St. Gallen.

The Abbey Library of Saint Gall (German: Stiftsbibliothek) is a significant medieval monastic library located in St. Gallen, Switzerland. In 1983, the library, as well as the Abbey of St. Gall, were designated a World Heritage Site, as “an outstanding example of a large Carolingian monastery and was, since the 8th century until its secularisation in 1805, one of the most important cultural centres in Europe”.

Säntis was the name of a canton of the Helvetic Republic from 1798 to 1803, consisting of the territory of St. Gallen, Appenzell, and Rheintal. Its capital was St. Gallen.

The Stiftskirche St. Gallus und Otmar (Collegiate Church of St. Gall and Otmar) is a Roman Catholic church in the city of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Part of the Abbey of St. Gall, it has been the cathedral of the Diocese of St. Gallen since 1847.Completed in 1767, the cathedral was designed by Peter Thumb, who also designed the Abbey's famous library. Among its rich decorations are frescoes painted mostly by Josef Wannenmacher, and the most complete set of historic church bells in Switzerland. The south altar features a bell brought back by Saint Gall himself from Ireland, one of the three oldest surviving bells in Europe.

Institut auf dem Rosenberg (registered name: Institut auf dem Rosenberg – The Artisans of Education, often referred to as Rosenberg) is a private, international boarding school located in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Established in 1889, it is one of the oldest and leading international schools for students aged 6–19 years in Switzerland. The school is located very close to Lake Constance on one side and the Alpstein mountains on the other side.The school is owned and run by the Gademann family. It has a limited student body of 230, who come from over 50 countries, are taught in small classes and are given individual attention in study and career planning. This school admits students from grades 1 to 12, and benefits of an international environment. It offers German International Baccalaureate (GIB), IB, British GCE A-Levels, and US High School Diploma for High school students.

The Abbey of Saint Gall (German: Abtei St. Gallen) is a dissolved abbey (747–1805) in a Catholic religious complex in the city of St. Gallen in Switzerland. The Carolingian-era monastery existed from 719, founded by Saint Othmar on the spot where Gallus had erected his hermitage. It became an independent principality between 9th and 13th centuries, and was for many centuries one of the chief Benedictine abbeys in Europe. The library of the Abbey is one of the oldest monastic libraries in the world. The city of St. Gallen originated as an adjoining settlement of the abbey. The abbey was secularized around 1800, and in 1848 its former church became a Cathedral. Since 1983 the abbey precinct has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The St. Gallen State Archive (German: Staatsarchiv des Kantons St. Gallen) is the archive for the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. Since the canton was founded in 1803, it has preserved the records relating to the cantonal authorities, the cantonal administration and the institutions of the state. It also contains records from the legal predecessors of today's canton. Organisationally, the State Archive is part of the Department of the Interior, located in the Office of Culture.
