Haelen (Dutch: [ˈɦaːlə(n)] ; Limburgish: Hale) is a town in the south-eastern Netherlands.

Limburg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈlɪmbʏr(ə)x] , Limburgish: [ˈlɪm˦ˌbʏʀ˦(ə)x]) is the southernmost of the twelve provinces of the Netherlands. It is bordered by Gelderland to the north and by North Brabant to its west. Its long eastern boundary forms the international border with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. To the west is the international border with the similarly named Belgian province of Limburg, part of which is delineated by the river Meuse. To the South, Limburg is bordered by the Belgian province of Liège. The Vaalserberg is on the extreme southeastern point, marking the tripoint of the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. Limburg's main municipalities are the provincial capital Maastricht (population 120,837 as of January 2022), Venlo (population 102,176) in the northeast, as well as Sittard-Geleen (population 91,760, bordering both Belgium and Germany) and Heerlen (population 86,874) in the south. More than half of the population, approximately 650,000 people, live in the south of Limburg, which corresponds to roughly one-third of the province's area proper. In South Limburg, most people live in the urban agglomerations of Maastricht, Parkstad and Sittard-Geleen.

Nunhem is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is located in the municipality of Leudal, 1 km north of Haelen.

The Rur or Roer (German: Rur [ʁuːɐ̯]; Dutch and Limburgish: Roer, Dutch pronunciation: [ˈruːr], Limburgish: [ˈʀuːʀ˦]; French: Rour) is a major river that flows through portions of Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. It is a right (eastern) tributary to the Meuse (Dutch: Maas). About 90 percent of the river's course is in Germany. It is not to be confused with the rivers Ruhr and Röhr, which are tributaries of the Rhine in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Buggenum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbʏxənʏm]; Limburgish: Bögkeme [ˈbœɡəmə]) is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It was a part of the municipality of Haelen until 2007, when it merged into the municipality of Leudal. It lies about 5 km north of Roermond.

Roermond (Dutch pronunciation: [ruːrˈmɔnt] ; Limburgish: Remunj [ʀəˈmʏɲ] or Remuunj [ʀəˈmyːɲ]) is a city, municipality, and diocese in the Limburg province of the Netherlands. Roermond is a historically important town on the lower Roer on the east bank of the river Meuse. It received town rights in 1231. Roermond's town centre has become a designated conservation area. Through the centuries, the town has filled the role of commercial centre and a principal town in the duchy of Guelders. Since 1559, it has served as the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Roermond. The skyline of the town is dominated by the towers of its two churches, St. Christopher's Cathedral and Roermond Minster ("Munsterkerk" in Dutch). In addition to the churches, the town centre has many significant buildings and monuments.

The Provisional IRA carried out two separate attacks on the same day on 1 May 1988 against British military personnel in the Netherlands which resulted in the deaths of three RAF members and another three being injured. It was the worst attack suffered by the British security forces during The Troubles from 1969 to 1998 in mainland Europe.

Herten is a village in the southeastern Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Roermond, Limburg.

St. Christopher's Cathedral in the Dutch city of Roermond is the main church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Roermond. It is dedicated to Saint Christopher.

The siege of Asselt was a Frankish siege of the Viking camp at Ascloha (Asselt) in the Meuse valley in the year 882. Though the Vikings were not forced by arms to abandon their camp, they were compelled to come to terms whereby their leader, Godfrid, was converted to Christianity.

Roermond Charterhouse, otherwise Bethlehem Charterhouse (Dutch: Kartuizerklooster Bethlehem, Kartuizerklooster Onze Lieve Vrouwe van Bethlehem), was a Carthusian monastery or charterhouse in Roermond in the province of Limburg in the south Netherlands. It was founded in 1376 by Werner van Swalmen, a canon at Maastricht, after he had returned from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and settled by 12 monks from Cologne Charterhouse. One of the first priors was the prominent scholar Henry of Kalkar. The important and prolific 15th-century theologian Denis the Carthusian (1402–1471) was a monk here. In the 15th century the charterhouse was able to undertake the settlement of two new monasteries, Vught Charterhouse (1466) and Vogelsang Charterhouse (1478). The monastery was destroyed by fire in 1554 and pillaged by the army of William the Silent, Prince of Orange, in 1572, when half the monks were killed, subsequently known as the Martyrs of Roermond. The monastery was re-founded in 1576 but suffered another serious fire in 1665. The monastery enjoyed prosperity in the 18th century but was suppressed under the Josephine Reforms in 1783. In 1841 the buildings were taken over for the seminary of the Diocese of Roermond, which occupied them until 1961. They are now used as the diocesan offices. The mediaeval monastic chapel, re-dedicated to Saint Charles Borromeo in 1841, continues in use as a church.

The Munstersquare (or Munsterplein in Dutch) is the main square in the city of Roermond. Its most prominent features are the bandstand and the Munster church (or "De Onze Lieve Vrouwe Munsterkerk" in Dutch), one of the most beautiful remnants of Romanesque architecture in the Netherlands. Next to the church is a statue of architect Pierre Cuypers, responsible for an extensive restoration of the church and also the designer of the bandstand. The south-east side of the square is closed by a block of houses designed by his son Joseph.
