Chitlapakkam Lake

Chitlapakkam is a residential locality in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is well known for its small, perennial lake and adjoining ecosystems.

Selaiyur is a neighbourhood of Chennai, India. This place is located on the Tambaram–Velachery Road. Long ago, this place was called as Silaiyur. Neighbouring towns include Tambaram, Madambakkam, Rajakilpakkam, Sembakkam, Chitlapakkam and Medavakkam. The Indian Air Force has one of if its bases here. It has been a preferred area for most of the retired airforce families and hence there are mix of people like north Indians, Andhraites, Keralites, and so forth. Over the past few years, this suburb has rapidly developed in terms of population due to the presence of vast number of private companies (national and multi national) present nearby. The nearest railway station is the Tambaram railway station and the Chennai airport is about 9 km away. Selaiyur has bus connectivity to all the main regions of the city. The East Tambaram bus terminus is about 3 km away and passengers can also board the buses in Camp Road Junction bus stop located in the neighbourhood.

Tambaram Sanatorium railway station is one of the railway stations of the Chennai Beach–Chengelpet section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network. It serves the neighbourhood of Tambaram Sanatorium and surrounding areas. It is situated about 27 km from Chennai Beach and has an elevation of 32 m (105 ft) above sea level.

National Institute of Siddha is an institute for study and research of Siddha medicine. It was established in 2005 at Tambaram, Chennai, India. It is one of the eight national institutes established across nation, for training and research in "Indian Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy education", by Department of AYUSH, Government of India,It is affiliated to the government-owned Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and is also the national headquarters of the Central Council of Research in Siddha (CCRS), the exclusive body for Siddha research.

East Tambaram is a neighborhood in Chennai, a city located on the east coast of South India. It is one of the main residential areas of the metropolitan region. It features the main shopping center, Poondi Bazaar, a large park and library. East Tambaram has many schools that attract the children and young adults of Chennai. The local college is Madras Christian College.

Government Hospital of Thoracic Medicine, popularly known as the Tambaram TB Sanatorium, is a major state-owned hospital situated in Chennai, India. The hospital is funded and managed by the state government of Tamil Nadu. It was founded in 1928.

The Chrompet Flyover is an elevated rotary type interchange flyover that connects GST road (NH 45) with the Madras Institute of Technology gate in Chennai, India.

Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) is an engineering institute located in Chromepet, Chennai, India. It is one of the four autonomous constituent colleges of Anna University. It was established in 1949 by Chinnaswami Rajam as the first self-financing engineering institute in the country and later merged with Anna University. The institute was among the first educational institutions in India to offer new areas of specialization such as aeronautical engineering, automobile engineering, electronics engineering and instrumentation technology. MIT was the first self-financing institute opened in India. MIT is also among the institutes in India that offered postgraduate courses in Avionics and Mechatronics. The institute has a unique practice of "T numbers" that facilitates mentoring of students by their respective seniors. Established in 1949, MIT initially offered three-year diploma courses (DMIT) in Engineering for Science graduates (B.Sc.). After Anna University was established in 1978, MIT became one of the constituent institutions of the university. Post this merging, three-year B.Tech. degree courses were offered to B.Sc. graduates. Over the years, the institute has expanded its original programmes. Presently, it offers in addition undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Production Engineering, Rubber and Plastics Technology, Computer Science Engineering and Information Technology. Since 1996, the institute accepts students who have passed the 12th board examinations for its four-year undergraduate programme.

The Anna University–K. B. Chandrasekhar Research Centre (AU–KBC) is located in the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) campus. The centre was founded by K.B. Chandrasekhar, an MIT alumnus and the co-founder of Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai. The AU–KBC Research Centre is a public–private research centre in India, formed through the partnership between a wholly for-profit company (KBC Research Foundation Private Limited, KBCRF) and a state institution (Anna University). The centre's original goal, when it had its own employees, was to foster research and create products of international quality. Its current goal is to create revenue for KBCRF and its sister for-profit concerns.

Tambaram, is one of the railway terminals of the Chennai Beach–Tambaram section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network. It is situated at a distance of 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from the centre of Tambaram. It is situated in South Chennai and located 27 kilometres (17 mi) from Chennai Beach station. It is one of the fastest-growing railway hubs outside Chennai Central in the southern direction. Every day, on an average, around 3,50,000 commuters use the station. About 500 suburban electric trains operate from Tambaram, including those between Chennai Beach and Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram. Further, more than 25 express trains, including those bound for Howrah and other places in the northern India, pass through the town. It is also the third busiest station in the city (after Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore). It is one of the four railway terminals within Chennai City. The daily ticket sales at Tambaram fetch ₹ 1 million, half of which comes from suburban travellers. It is the second most revenue-generating station in Chennai after Moore Market Complex. A total of 52 trains pass through the station.Tambaram Railway Station divides Tambaram into East Tambaram and West Tambaram. There are nine platforms in the station. Platforms 1-4 are used for suburban trains between Chengalpattu and Chennai Beach and platforms between 5 and 9 are used by the suburban electric trains between Chennai Beach and Chengalpattu and Tirumalpur and also long-distance express trains. Most of the suburban electric train services originating from Tambaram to Beach and Chengalpattu leave from the first two platforms. There is a foot overbridge connecting East and West Tambaram with access to all platforms. In 2008, Southern Railway started building an additional platform at the westernmost side of the railway station, making Platform No.1 a double-discharge platform, a design that helps commuters to alight on either side of the train, similar to the one at Park railway station, where the passengers could alight on the western side for quicker access to Chennai Central.
