On the evening of February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida, United States, George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old African-American. Zimmerman, a 28-year-old man who self-identifies as Hispanic, was a neighborhood watch coordinator for the gated community where Martin was visiting relatives at the time of the shooting. Zimmerman became suspicious of Martin and called police; Zimmerman was injured during a physical altercation between the two and shot Martin with a pistol he was licensed to carry. The Lake Mary Chamber of Commerce Building (also known as the Frank Evans Center) is a historic site in Lake Mary, Florida, United States. It is located at 158 North Country Club Road. On February 11, 2004, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The building was built in 1926 by Frank Evans as a community center and offices for the Lake Mary of Chamber of Commerce. The building was later used as the City Hall when the city was incorporated in 1973 until 1990 when the current City Hall was completed. The building currently functions as the Lake Mary Historical Museum. The museum began in 1994 in a small room at the back of the building while the rest of the building was used as a gathering place for the city's seniors The museum now occupies the entire building and includes changing exhibits about local history, art, culture and trains.

The station is located along the former CSX A-Line (originally constructed by the South Florida Railroad) near West Lake Mary Boulevard east of Country Club Road. Though the station is officially located on West Lake Mary Boulevard, the actual platforms are located southwest of the Greenleaf Lane grade crossing between North Palmetto Street and East Crystal Lake Avenue and Old Lake Mary Road. The parking lot runs along the west side of North Palmetto Street between West Lake Mary Boulevard and Greenleaf Lane. A transit-oriented development called Station House is located adjacent to the station and features a 200-unit, four story luxury apartment community.

Sanford is typical of most SunRail stations featuring canopies consisting of white aluminum poles supporting sloped green roofs and includes ticket vending machines, ticket validators, emergency call boxes, drinking fountains, and separate platforms designed for passengers in wheelchairs. The station is located along the north side of S.R. 46, diagonally across the road from the Sanford Amtrak Auto Train station. Other Amtrak trains that share the right-of-way with SunRail are the Silver Meteor and Silver Star trains, neither of which stop at either Sanford station. The station is also located just south of Rand Yard, a small rail yard used by CSX for freight car storage as well as SunRail for equipment maintenance and storage.

Sanford station is a railroad terminal in Sanford, Florida. It is the southern terminus for Amtrak's Auto Train, which runs between this station and Lorton, Virginia. As of 2022, the Auto Train loads its passengers on two tracks in Sanford, as no single track is long enough for all of the passenger railcars. A railroad crossing runs through the middle of Sanford's rail yard, an unusual situation for a modern station and yard.
