Eastside, Atlanta

The Battle of Atlanta was a battle of the Atlanta Campaign fought during the American Civil War on July 22, 1864, just southeast of Atlanta, Georgia. Continuing their summer campaign to seize the important rail and supply hub of Atlanta, Union forces commanded by William Tecumseh Sherman overwhelmed and defeated Confederate forces defending the city under John Bell Hood. Union Maj. Gen. James B. McPherson was killed during the battle. Despite the implication of finality in its name, the battle occurred midway through the campaign, and the city did not fall until September 2, 1864, after a Union siege and various attempts to seize railroads and supply lines leading to Atlanta. After taking the city, Sherman's troops headed south-southeastward toward Milledgeville, the state capital, and on to Savannah with the March to the Sea. The fall of Atlanta was especially noteworthy for its political ramifications. In the 1864 election, former Union general George B. McClellan, a Democrat, ran against President Lincoln, on a peace platform calling for an armistice with the Confederacy. The capture of Atlanta and Hood's burning of military facilities as he evacuated were extensively covered by Northern newspapers, significantly boosting Northern morale, and Lincoln was re-elected by a significant margin.

Reynoldstown is a historic district and intown neighborhood on the near east side of Atlanta, Georgia located only 2 miles from downtown. The neighborhood is gentrifying and attracting new families, empty-nesters, Atlantans opposed to long commutes; as well as diverse culture of first-time homebuyers, single professionals, artist and students due to its close proximity to other nearby intown neighborhoods, high walkability index, urban amenities and nearby bohemian hotspots on Carroll Street in the adjoined-at-the-hip also historic Cabbagetown neighborhood and in other surrounding communities.

Inman Park / Reynoldstown is a train station in Atlanta, Georgia, serving the Blue Line of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. It also serves the Green Line on weekdays, and has two side platforms and two tracks. This station opened June 30, 1979. The station primarily serves the communities of Inman Park and Reynoldstown and is located near the Edgewood Retail District. Bus service is provided at this station to Virginia-Highland, Little Five Points, East Atlanta Village, Georgia State University (Decatur), Georgia Department of Labor, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, Center of Disease Control (CDC), Emory University, Michael C. Carlos Museum, MTC and Emory University Hospital. 366 parking spaces are available on site.

North Ormewood Park is a neighborhood on the east side of Atlanta, Georgia, United States, located in the northern part of Ormewood Park. It is located between Reynoldstown, East Atlanta and Grant Park and adjacent to the mixed-use development Glenwood Park. It is bordered by Moreland Avenue, Glenwood Avenue, I-20 and Stovall Avenue. It is a designated Drug Free Commercial Zone.

The National Black Golf Hall of Fame was started by Harold Dunovant, the first African-American to graduate from the PGA of America's business school in 1964. He was unable to become a Class A PGA Member for six years because no one would sign his application. Inductees include: Willie Black, caddy and golfer who headed up construction and operations of Tampa, Florida's Rogers Park, Tampa course Barbara Douglas, the first minority member of the USGA Women's Committee (and later its chair) Ann Gregory, the first African-American woman to play in a national championship conducted by the United States Golf Association. John Merchant, the first minority on the USGA Executive Committee Winston Lake Golf Course in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Renee Powell, the second African-American woman ever to play on the LPGA Tour.

The EARL is an alternative music venue in Atlanta, Georgia, located on Flat Shoals Avenue in the neighborhood of East Atlanta.

Callan Castle at 145 (old numbering system: 61) Elizabeth Street NE (corner of Euclid St.) in the Inman Park neighborhood of Atlanta, was originally the mansion of Asa Griggs Candler, the business tycoon who made his fortune selling Coca-Cola. It was built in 1902-1903 by George Murphy in Beaux-Arts style; the land and building cost almost $13,000. The name alludes to the family's ancestral home in Ireland (as does Callanwolde, the mansion of Candler's eldest son) In 1916 Candler moved to his new mansion at 1500 Ponce de Leon Avenue in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, which is currently a Melkite Catholic church. Callan Castle was restored in 2011. The home has a 2012 estimated market value of $1.2 million.

Madison Theater is a historic 1927 theater building in East Atlanta, Georgia. It was designed by Daniell & Beutell in a Moorish Revival architecture style and opened with 600 seats. It is at 496 Flat Shoals Avenue. It closed in the 1970s after a period of being used as an art house cinema. The front of the theater has been converted into several storefronts and the theater space is being used for storage. Features of the theater once included gargoyles, an organ, and fine furnishings. It was listed as endangered in 2018 by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation.

Inman Park is an intown neighborhood on the east side of Atlanta, Georgia, and its first planned suburb. It was named for Samuel M. Inman.

East Atlanta is a neighborhood on the east side of Atlanta, Georgia, United States The name East Atlanta Village primarily refers to the neighborhood's commercial district.

The Beath–Dickey House (1890) is a Queen Anne Victorian house located at 866 Euclid Avenue in the Inman Park neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. It was one of the houses of note when the Inman Park – Atlanta's first streetcar suburb – was established.

WHSG-TV (channel 63) is a religious television station licensed to Monroe, Georgia, United States, serving the Atlanta area as an owned-and-operated station of the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). The station's studios are located on Agape Way in Decatur, and its transmitter is located in Atlanta's Cabbagetown section. Because it airs no local content (except for local insertion of the required station identification), it is not carried as a local channel on DirecTV; the network's national feed is already available, but TBN's subchannel sister networks are not available. It had one broadcast translator, W55BM, licensed to Marietta with transmitter atop Sweat Mountain, northwest of Atlanta. That station was later W49DE and WXID-LP, an affiliate of JCTV.
