The Windsor Court Hotel is a luxury hotel in the Central Business District of New Orleans, Louisiana. The building rises 253 feet (77 m). It contains 23 floors, and was completed in 1984. In 2011, Travel + Leisure magazine ranked the Windsor Court as the 6th Best Large City Hotel in the United States and Canada. Windsor Court Hotel currently stands as the 37th-tallest building in the city, and the 10th-tallest hotel. The building is an example of modern architecture.The building houses a 4-star hotel with 324 guest rooms and features an extensive collection of European art and antiques valued at more than $8 million.The hotel was one of the least damaged buildings of New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina made impact, suffering only minimal damage and escaping floodwaters. The damage included broken windows in the upper floors and minor flooding from rain that fell inside as a result of the broken windows.

The Audubon Insectarium is an insectarium and entomology museum in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. As part of its move from its previous location at the U.S. Custom House Federal Building to the site of the Audubon Aquarium, the museum reopened on June 8, 2023.The Insectarium opened on June 13, 2008. In 2009, it was awarded the Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Science Center.Part of the Audubon Nature Institute complex, it was located on the first floor of the U.S. Custom House Federal Building. With more than 50 live exhibits and numerous multimedia elements, the 23,000-square-foot (2,100 m2) facility was the largest free-standing American museum dedicated to insects.In September 2020, the Audubon Nature Institute announced the temporary closure of the Insectarium, owing to revenue shortages caused by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Some of the Insectarium's exhibits will be relocated to space within the Aquarium.

Le Méridien New Orleans is a 23-story high-rise building in the Central Business District of New Orleans, Louisiana. The building rises 279 feet (85 m), and is currently tied with Charity Hospital as the 29th-tallest building in the city. It also stands as the 8th-tallest hotel in New Orleans. The hotel was designed with a modern architecture style by architectural firm DMJM and was opened in 1984 as the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza to accommodate crowds attending the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition. It became the Four Points by Sheraton Downtown in the late 1990s and then the W New Orleans Hotel in 2000.The hotel was significantly damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Half of the hotel's rooms had their windows blown out.In April 2013 it was sold to Chesapeake Lodging Trust for $65 million. On July 15, 2014, the hotel was given the temporary name Hotel New Orleans Downtown while it underwent a $29 million renovation. It became the Le Méridien New Orleans on December 15, 2014. In 2019, Park Hotels & Resorts, which had acquired Chesapeake Lodging Trust, sold the hotel to Stonebridge Companies and Walton Street Capital for $84 million.The building houses a 4-star Le Méridien with 423 guest rooms.

The Louisville and Nashville Passenger Station was a former train station of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad in New Orleans, Louisiana. The station was located at the foot of Canal Street, and provided service to New Orleans from Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile. By the 1940s, six passenger trains arrived daily on the terminal's three tracks. The station was demolished in early 1954 after all passenger service was relocated to the new Union Passenger Terminal.

The New Orleans Lower Central Business District is a historic district in New Orleans, Louisiana which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1991. It may be referred to as Lower Central Business District. Along with the NRHP-listed New Orleans Upper Central Business District to the south, across the redeveloped Poydras Street, it is included within the larger New Orleans Central Business District area. To the north, between N. Peters and N. Rampart, the district borders the historic, NRHP-listed Vieux Carre, which is a U.S. National Historic Landmark.The original 1991 listing is roughly bounded by Canal, Tchoupitoulas, Poydras, O'Keefe, Common and S. Saratoga. It included 251 contributing buildings dating from 1830 to 1941and 32 non-contributing buildings on 72 acres (29 ha). It included Classical Revival, Greek Revival, Italianate and other architecture.The district is almost entirely commercial. The only surviving residence in the district was 824 Canal Street (see photo #4 in 27 photos from 1990), which was designed by architect James Gallier, Sr. for Dr. William Newton Mercer and was built in 1844. It became the Boston Club, a private men's club, in 1884.The historic NOPSI building, at 317 Baronne Street, was vacant at time of listing but was later renovated and became the NOPSI New Orleans hotel. After the 2006 boundary increase and modified documentation, the district contained 259 contributing buildings and 31 non-contributing ones. Of these, 15 buildings had previously been individually listed on the National Register.Separately listed buildings include: Hennen Building (1894–95), at 203 Carondelet, designed by Thomas Sully, which was already separately listed on the National Register. New Orleans Cotton Exchange Building (1921), at 231 Carondelet St., also separately listed. National American Bank Building (1929), at 200 Carondelet, also separately listed. the Beaux Arts Orpheum Theatre (1918), at 125-129 University Pl., also separately listed. Macheca Building (1901), at 828 Canal St., also separately listed.In 2014, it was proposed that the district be further expanded.The Louisiana state site includes NRHP nomination and map for the proposed boundary increase.Documentation about the district published by the State of Louisiana's Division of Historic Preservation overlaps with documentation published by the National Park Service, but includes additional photos and maps.National Park Service, at end of 2014, listed the boundary increase II as pending.Additional documentation about the Lower Central Business District was approved by the National Register on January 20, 2015. In 2006 the area of the New Orleans Lower Central Business District was increased to include other historic buildings, and the amendment also identified some buildings as contributing which had been deemed non-contributing previously, based on additional information. The boundary increase added nine contributing buildings, including the New Orleans Public Library, and three non-contributing building, as well as updating four buildings to be considered contributing. One of those now considered contributing is the Joy Theater (1946), at 1200 Canal. The contributing buildings included International Style architecture, and included buildings built as late as 1956, i.e. up to just 50 years old.

One Canal Place, located at 365 Canal Street in the Central Business District of New Orleans, Louisiana, is a 32-story, 440 feet (134 m)-tall skyscraper. The building contains The Shops at Canal Place and is attached to the Westin New Orleans Canal Place hotel, with which it shares a parking garage. During the colonial era before levees were constructed, the land now occupied by the Canal Place complex was commonly covered by the waters of the Mississippi River. In the 1720s, a windmill was constructed near what is now Canal Street and North Peters Street. By the 20th century, the land was occupied by the American Sugar Refinery facilities. The 19th-century warehouses as well as Crossman Street (parallel to Canal Street) were removed to allow the construction of One Canal Place.Phase 1 of the Canal Place project resulted in the construction of the office tower in 1979. The Saks Fifth Avenue retail store and Westin hotel were constructed in 1982-83 as Phase 2. Plans are currently in the works for Canal Place Phase 3, a $220 million project which will feature a new mixed-use high-rise tower. The office building with more than 650,000 leaseable square feet is managed by Corporate Realty.

The World Trade Center of New Orleans is the founding member of the World Trade Centers Association, a worldwide association of over 300 World Trade Centers in nearly 100 countries. The mission of the World Trade Center of New Orleans is to create jobs and wealth in Louisiana through international trade.

The Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences New Orleans is a historic 33-story, 407 feet (124 m)-tall skyscraper designed by noted architect Edward Durell Stone, located at 2 Canal Street in the Central Business District of New Orleans. It was formerly known as the "ITM Building", i.e., the International Trade Mart, it was also known as the World Trade Center New Orleans, and housed numerous foreign consulates and the headquarters for the Port of New Orleans. The top floor hosted a cocktail lounge called "Top of the Mart" from the 1970s through 2001. The bar slowly rotated once per hour. After this, a bar called "360" (as in degrees) opened in its place, which remained until Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The World Trade Center closed in June 2011 and the building was purchased by the city of New Orleans. In the years following the closure, various plans emerged. The “Save WTC NOLA” group campaigned for renovation rather than demolition, while others campaigned to have the building demolished and have a park and landmark to the city built in its place.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 9, 2014.In 2018, work began to convert the structure to a Four Seasons Hotel, with 341 hotel rooms and 92 hotel-serviced condos on the top floors of the building. The conversion cost $450 million. In January 2021, its penthouse was sold for just under $13 million. The hotel opened on August 17, 2021.

The Battle of Liberty Place Monument is a stone obelisk on an inscribed plinth, formerly on display in New Orleans, in the U.S. state of Louisiana, commemorating the "Battle of Liberty Place", an 1874 attempt by Democratic White League paramilitary organizations to take control of the government of Louisiana from its Reconstruction Era Republican leadership after a disputed gubernatorial election. Erected in 1891 by a Southern Democratic-dominated city government in honor of the White League, the obelisk became the site of protests and rallies by both white supremacists and those who objected to it as a symbol of racism. It was removed in 2017 amid great controversy and threats of violence and was placed in storage.

The Piazza d'Italia is an urban public plaza located behind the American Italian Cultural Center at Lafayette and Commerce Streets in downtown New Orleans, Louisiana. It is controlled by the New Orleans Building Corporation (NOBC), a public benefit corporation wholly owned by the City of New Orleans. Completed in 1978 according to a design by noted postmodern architect Charles Moore and Perez Architects of New Orleans, the Piazza d'Italia debuted to widespread acclaim on the part of artists and architects. Deemed an architectural masterpiece even prior to its completion, the Piazza in fact began to rapidly deteriorate as the development surrounding it was never realized. By the turn of the new millennium, the Piazza d'Italia was largely unfrequented by and unknown to New Orleanians, and was sometimes referred to as the first "postmodern ruin". The conversion of the adjacent Lykes Center to the Loews Hotel, New Orleans, completed in 2003, was accompanied by the full restoration of the Piazza d'Italia (accomplished by 2004).

The U.S. Custom House, also known as the Old Post Office and Custom House, is a historic government building at 423 Canal Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was designated a National Historic Landmark, receiving this designation in 1974 and noted for its Egyptian Revival columns. Construction on the building, designed to house multiple federal offices and store goods, began in 1848 and didn't finish until 1881 due to redesigns and the American Civil War. The U.S. Customs offices have been located there since the late 19th century. In 2008, it became home to the Audubon Insectarium, the largest free-standing American museum dedicated to insects.

The American Italian Cultural Center (AICC) is a nonprofit institution in New Orleans, Louisiana, whose mission is to honor and celebrate Italian American history and culture in Louisiana. Founded in 1985 by Joseph Maselli and adjacent to New Orleans's renowned Piazza d'Italia, the AICC offers Italian language courses, concerts, events, trips to Italy, and dual-citizenship applications, as well as promotes other Italian American organizations and their events. The AICC also houses an Honorary Consul of Italy. It operates under the parent organization of the American Italian Renaissance Foundation.The AICC is home to the American Italian Museum and the Louisiana American Italian Sports Hall of Fame. The museum's focus is the heritage and contributions of American Italians in the Southeast, particularly the Italians in New Orleans. Displays include photographs, articles, family histories and memorabilia. The AICC hosts an annual St. Joseph's Day celebration in October, as well as a Festa d'Italia in the Piazza. The AICC publishes the quarterly Italian American Digest; and it oversees the American Italian Research Library, located in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie.
