Llandecwyn railway station

Gwaith Powdwr, (English: Powder Works), situated in Penrhyndeudraeth, Wales, is a decommissioned explosives works now managed as a Nature Reserve by the North Wales Wildlife Trust. The explosives factory was initially opened in 1865 and changed hands several times before being bought by Ralph Cooke in 1922. He renamed the site Cooke's Explosives and the factory became a noted explosives production plant. During the Second World War, it produced more than 17 million grenades. Cooke retired in 1955 and the site was taken over by a partner company, Imperial Chemical Industries, until its closure in 1995. Several accidents occurred at the site, including explosions in 1957 and 1988 which killed six workers in total.

Penrhyndeudraeth railway station is a railway station serving the small town of Penrhyndeudraeth on the Dwyryd Estuary in Gwynedd, Wales. It is a station on the Cambrian Coast Railway with services between Shrewsbury and Pwllheli via Machynlleth.

Penrhyndeudraeth (Welsh pronunciation: [pɛnr̥ɨnˈdeɨ̯draːɨ̯θ] ; lit. 'peninsula with two beaches') is a small town and community in the Welsh county of Gwynedd. The town is close to the mouth of the River Dwyryd on the A487 nearly 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Porthmadog, and had a population of 2,150 at the 2011 census, increased from 2,031 in 2001. The community includes the villages of Minffordd and Portmeirion.

Penrhyndeudraeth Football Club (Welsh: Clwb Pêl-Droed Penrhyndeudraeth, also abbreviated Penrhyn) is a football team, playing in the North Wales Coast West Football League Premier Division. The club was re-formed in 1981 and plays their home fixtures at Maes Y Parc, Penrhyndeudraeth.

Penrhyn railway station on the Ffestiniog Railway is located on a restricted site at Pen-y-Bwlch above the town of Penrhyndeudraeth (Penrhyndeudraeth means Headland between two beaches). Beyond Penrhyn station, the railway crosses the A4085 Penrhyndeudraeth to Llanfrothen road on the line's only remaining gated and staffed level crossing. Because of the layout of the crossing, three privately owned terraced houses are between the two crossing gates.

Talsarnau is a village and community in the Ardudwy area of Gwynedd in Wales. Its population was 525 in 2001, and had increased to 550 at the 2011 Census.The village of Talsarnau is situated on the A496 coastal road between Maentwrog and Harlech, close to the hamlets of Eisingrug and Llandecwyn. It has one primary school and one pub, "The Ship Aground", which starts serving food from 18:00 (6pm). Talsarnau railway station on the Cambrian Line serves the village. The community also includes Ynys Gifftan and Soar, Gwynedd.

Rhiw Goch is a passing point on the Ffestiniog Railway north of the village of Penrhyndeudraeth in Wales. It was originally a passing loop and an exchange point for the horses that worked the line, opening in 1836. Horses were stabled overnight at Rhiw Goch farm, which adjoins the line further south nearer to the village. When the railway converted to using steam locomotives in 1863, Rhiw Goch passing loop was no longer needed and was closed. The passing loop was reinstated at Rhiw Goch in 1975. Its location, approximately equidistant from Minffordd and Tan-y-Bwlch stations, allows maximum flexibility in timetabling, permitting up and down trains to cross with minimum waiting. The location provides a long passing loop which accommodates full length Ffestiniog trains. This is the only former 'horse station' at which it is still possible to pass trains, although Cae Ednyfed, lies within the current Minfford station limits. In 1989 the box was taken out of use, with the signal heads being removed and the token instrument from Tan-y-Bwlch, and the although trap points (from Minffordd) were installed at the Tan-y-Bwlch end of the loop, they were never commissioned. During this period, the ground frame was only usable as a refuge siding, and it was not possible to cross passenger trains. In 1999 the box was recommissioned, with replacement signal heads being installed, the Tan-y-Bwlch end trap points were removed and new power cabling was installed. Rhiw Goch has the only regularly staffed signal box on the railway and the 1974 vintage box was replaced by a new enlarged box during 2006/7. This included provision for the bats which have made the signal box their home. Although trains regularly stop here to wait for a train travelling in the opposite direction to pass, passengers can not alight from or join trains here. There is no public access to Rhiw Goch except by train.

Llandecwyn () is a hamlet near Penrhyndeudraeth in Gwynedd, Wales. The bulk of the population (between 40 and 50 houses) is now located around Cilfor close to the A496 road and served by Llandecwyn railway station, with a cluster of under ten houses around the road junction at Capel Brontecwyn half a mile up the hill to the southeast, and other isolated houses and farms scattered across the hillsides. Formerly, there was a sizeable population closer to the Anglican church of Saint Tecwyn and the lakes: Llyn Tecwyn Isaf and Llyn Tecwyn Uchaf. The church now stands alone, three-quarters of a mile due east of Cilfor. There is a children's play area at Cilfor, but there are no shops or schools. The former parish of Llandecwyn stretched from the estuary of the Afon Dwyryd at Pont Briwet to the hills of the Rhinogs. It included the Bryn Bwbach road from Capel Brontecwyn to Eisingrug, a section of the main A496 road between Llandecwyn and Talsarnau, and a section of the main A496 road between Llandecwyn and Maentwrog. It also included land across the River Dwyryd: the area of Cefn Coch and around Rhiw Goch and the road to Llanfrothen. Most of the former parish is now part of the Bro Ardudwy ministry area, which includes Harlech, a few kilometres to the southwest, and Barmouth. Pen Llandecwyn, the small hill between Saint Tecwyn's church and Llyn Tecwyn Uchaf, is 203 m (666 ft) high.

Soar is a small village or hamlet in Gwynedd, Wales. It is located about 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of Harlech, close to Talsarnau and Llandecwyn. It has no school; children in the hamlet go to school in Talsarnau, which is a short walk down the hillside. There is a small park at the top of the hill in Soar (on your left as you drive up) with swings and climbing equipment. Parking is limited as it lies next to private houses which look out onto the park.

Ysbyty Bron y Garth (English: Bron y Garth Hospital) was a health facility in Penrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd, Wales. It was managed by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

Minffordd (roadside in Welsh) is a village within the Welsh county of Gwynedd. It is situated on the A487 road between Porthmadog and Penrhyndeudraeth, and in the community of the latter. The village has two adjacent railway stations, which are served both by Cambrian Line mainline train services and the narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway. In 1992 the Ffestiniog Railway built a hostel to house volunteers working on the line.The stations are approximately quarter of a mile from the start of the mile-long drive to the Italianate hotel-village of Portmeirion. Nearby are the minor remains of a medieval castle (known variously as Castell Deudraeth, Castell Gwain Goch and Castell Aber Iau). The castle was first recorded by Giraldus Cambrensis (Gerald of Wales) in 1188. Garth Quarry was opened in 1870 to produce granite setts for transport to developing towns and cities by the newly opened Cambrian Railways. The quarry now produces roadstone and railway ballast. Ysbyty Bron y Garth was built as the Ffestiniog Union Workhouse in 1839 at a cost of £3,200 and was intended to house 150 inmates. In recent years the buildings were used as a community hospital operated by North West Wales NHS Trust. In 2009 the hospital was replaced by Ysbyty Alltwen at Tremadog. Part of the site houses over 400 lesser horseshoe bats.Minffordd is a thriving Welsh speaking village, where the language is used every day.
