Calhan station

The Town of Calhan is a statutory town located in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 762 at the 2020 United States Census. Calhan is a part of the Colorado Springs, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Front Range Urban Corridor. The town straddles U.S. Highway 24. With Calhan sitting at an elevation of 6,535 feet (1,992 meters) above sea level, Calhan is the highest non-mountain town in the United States. It is the site of the Calhan Paint Mines Archeological District, a popular natural attraction.

The Calhan School District RJ-1 is a public school district serving in northeastern El Paso County, Colorado as well as parts of southern Elbert County. Serving a relatively small population, the entire educational range of the district, from preschool through twelfth grade, is housed on a single campus, along with all of the administrative functions. The school (and district) mascot is the bulldog.

Calhan Paint Mines is an archeological district located on the eastern plains of Colorado in El Paso County, one mile south of Calhan. The Paint Mines Interpretive Park is "a unique blending of geological, archaeological, historical and ecological resources".

Bijou Basin is an extinct town located in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The townsite is located at 39.1356°N 104.4569°W / 39.1356; -104.4569 (Bijou Basin) at an elevation of 6,398 feet (1,950 m). Travelers could take post road 49 to the settlement. It was located five miles southeast of another early settlement, Sidney.

Peyton is an unincorporated town, a post office, and a census-designated place (CDP) located in and governed by El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is a part of the Colorado Springs, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Peyton post office has the ZIP Code 80831. At the United States Census 2020, the population of the Peyton CDP was 214.The nearby unincorporated area of Falcon also uses zip code 80831. Peyton and towns such as Falcon, Calhan, Ramah, Simla, and Matheson straddle U.S. Highway 24 between Colorado Springs and Limon, Colorado where US 24 intersects with Interstate 70.

The Black Squirrel Creek Bridge carries U.S. 24 over Black Squirrel Creek in El Paso County, Colorado. Prior to 2012, it was locally known as the "green bridge" or "old green bridge"—a historic single-span, Parker through truss bridge that was completed in 1935 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. Because it no longer met highway safety standards, the bridge was dismantled and replaced by a newer span in 2012.
