Forrester, Edinburgh

Forrester High School is a secondary school in the west of Edinburgh, Scotland. St Augustine's High School, an RC secondary, moved onto a shared campus with Forrester High School in January 2010. Previously the schools had been next to each other.

St. Augustine's High School, established in 1969, is a Roman Catholic secondary school serving the west of Edinburgh, Scotland, with approximately 840 pupils.

St Joseph's Church, Sighthill, (also known as St Joseph's Broomhouse), is a Roman Catholic church situated in Broomhouse, in the west of Edinburgh, Scotland. The parish boundary extends to Broomhouse, Parkhead, Saughton, Sighthill, Gorgie and further.

Broomhouse is a district of Edinburgh, Scotland. Although on the lands of Old Saughton, its name is adopted from an estate which lay to the north of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway. The earliest recorded versions of the name (c.1600) were variations on Brum(e)hous. It mainly comprises a low-rise council housing estate built between 1947 and 1950. It borders on Parkhead, Sighthill, and Saughton Mains. The arterial route of Calder Road (A71) passes to the south.

Sighthill Stadium was a proposed stadium to be located in the Sighthill district of Edinburgh, Scotland. It would have been a multi-use stadium hosting a number of sports, principally athletics and rugby. Edinburgh Rugby were considered key potential tenants. In the published plans the new stadium was due to replace Meadowbank Stadium, which would have been sold off for housing. The scheme ran into difficulties due to opposition to the sale of Meadowbank.

Stevenson College Edinburgh, was a further education college in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was founded in 1970, and was named after famous Scottish engineer, Robert Stevenson. In 2012 it merged with Telford College and Jewel & Esk College to form part of the newly established Edinburgh College. The college had five faculties offering a wide range of subjects: Access & Continuing Education Business, Administration & Languages Creative Arts Early Education, Health & Social Care Science, Sport & EngineeringThe college welcomed approximately 17,000 students each year, of which approx. 1000 were from overseas. International Students Stevenson College Edinburgh catered to the needs of a wide range of international students from all over the world. Students could study English Language, university foundation courses as well as higher education programmes. The main intakes were in August and January every year. A summer school took place every summer through the months of June, July and August. As well as individual international students, the college could provide bespoke training to groups from overseas, including professional training in a huge range of subjects.

HM Inspectorate of Prisons for Scotland was established in 1981, following recommendations of the May Committee report of 1979. The Inspectorate is directly funded by the Scottish Government. As of July 2018, His Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons for Scotland is Wendy Sinclair-Gieben.

Corstorphine Old Parish Church, formerly St. John's Collegiate Church, is at the old centre of Corstorphine, a village incorporated to the west area of Edinburgh. Built in the 15th century, in the churchyard of a 12th-century or earlier chapel, the former collegiate church was listed category A by Historic Scotland on December 14, 1970.

Sighthill is a suburb in the west of Edinburgh, Scotland. The area is bordered by Broomhouse and Parkhead to the east, South Gyle to the north, the industrial suburb of Bankhead and the Calders neighbourhood to the west, and Wester Hailes to the south. It is sometimes included in the Wester Hailes area, while the Calders, Bankhead and Parkhead are sometimes considered parts of Sighthill. Administratively it has formed a core part of the City of Edinburgh Council's Sighthill/Gorgie ward since 2007.

Wester Broom is a district of Edinburgh, Scotland. It borders Broomhouse/Forrester, Corstorphine and South Gyle. It is sometimes considered to be part of one of the latter two. It is mainly residential, with a few small shops and a large Tesco nearby. The Fife railway line is arguably the boundary, although some will extend it south to the Glasgow line, and to include Forresters and two schools.

Saughton railway station served the suburb of Saughton, Edinburgh, Scotland from 1842 to 1921 on the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway.

Corstorphine (Scottish Gaelic: Crois Thoirfinn) ( kər-STOR-fin) is an area of the Scottish capital city of Edinburgh. Formerly a separate village and parish to the west of Edinburgh, it is now a suburb of the city, having been formally incorporated into it in 1920.Corstorphine has a high street with many independent small shops, although a number have closed in recent years since the opening of several retail parks to the west of Edinburgh, especially the Gyle Centre. Traffic on the main street, St John's Road, is often heavy, as it forms part of the A8 main road between Edinburgh and Glasgow. The actual "High Street" itself is no longer the main street, an anomaly shared with central Edinburgh. Famous residents have included pioneer scientist Chrystal Macmillan, Scottish Renaissance author Helen Cruickshank, and Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy. Corstorphine is also featured prominently in Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 novel Kidnapped and mentioned in Danny Boyle's 1996 film Trainspotting.
