Wester Broom

South Gyle (pronounced ) is an area of Edinburgh, Scotland, lying on the western edge of the city and to the south and west of an area of former marshland once known as the Gogarloch, on the edge of Corstorphine. Most of the buildings in the area are of recent origin, dating from the later 1980s, 1990s, and early 21st century, with the exception of some farm workers' cottages and an early 1970s council estate abutting South Gyle railway station. South Gyle can be neatly divided into two main zones – a residential one, incorporating Gogarloch and the neighbouring area centred on South Gyle Mains; and a commercial/business one which incorporates the Gyle Shopping Centre, Edinburgh Park, Gyle Park (an actual park, but with some shopping centres near it), and South Gyle Crescent. The Royal Bank of Scotland and sportscotland are all based in this district. The Lochside development also features a number of busts of Scottish poets.

South Gyle railway station is a railway station serving South Gyle in the City of Edinburgh, Scotland. The station was opened on 9 May 1985 by ScotRail alongside new housing in the area, and is located on the Fife Circle Line, 4+1⁄2 miles (7.2 km) west of Edinburgh Waverley. It has two platforms. There is a ticket machine and a shelter on each platform. Edinburgh Park station is also on the edge of South Gyle, which serves the North Clyde Line and the Edinburgh-Dunblane Line. Edinburgh Gateway station is to the north-west of South Gyle.

St. Augustine's High School, established in 1969, is a Roman Catholic secondary school serving the west of Edinburgh, Scotland, with approximately 840 pupils.

Forrester High School is a secondary school in the west of Edinburgh, Scotland. St Augustine's High School, an RC secondary, moved onto a shared campus with Forrester High School in January 2010. Previously the schools had been next to each other.

Corstorphine (Scottish Gaelic: Crois Thoirfinn) ( kər-STOR-fin) is an area of the Scottish capital city of Edinburgh. Formerly a separate village and parish to the west of Edinburgh, it is now a suburb of the city, having been formally incorporated into it in 1920.Corstorphine has a high street with many independent small shops, although a number have closed in recent years since the opening of several retail parks to the west of Edinburgh, especially the Gyle Centre. Traffic on the main street, St John's Road, is often heavy, as it forms part of the A8 main road between Edinburgh and Glasgow. The actual "High Street" itself is no longer the main street, an anomaly shared with central Edinburgh. Famous residents have included pioneer scientist Chrystal Macmillan, Scottish Renaissance author Helen Cruickshank, and Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy. Corstorphine is also featured prominently in Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 novel Kidnapped and mentioned in Danny Boyle's 1996 film Trainspotting.

Forrester is a primarily residential area of Corstorphine, Edinburgh which has its own high school and rugby club. The closest railway stations are at South Gyle and Edinburgh Park, but it is itself wedged between the two railway lines. It is not to be confused with "Forrester Road", which is on the other side of Corstorphine on the slopes of Corstophine Hill. It is named for the Forrester Family, who used to be the lairds of Corstorphine.The area is featured in the novel Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh.

Gogarloch is a residential area within South Gyle, Edinburgh, Scotland. It lies near South Gyle railway station and South Gyle Broadway, 4+1⁄2 miles (7.2 km) west of the city centre. Corstorphine and Wester Broom are nearby. Historically this area was marshland (hence 'loch' in the name) but the land was drained in the 19th century to create space for a new railway. Most of the housing is of the 1990s era. Other lost lochs of Edinburgh include the Nor Loch and Burgh Loch on the site of the present day Meadows area.

Stevenson College Edinburgh, was a further education college in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was founded in 1970, and was named after famous Scottish engineer, Robert Stevenson. In 2012 it merged with Telford College and Jewel & Esk College to form part of the newly established Edinburgh College. The college had five faculties offering a wide range of subjects: Access & Continuing Education Business, Administration & Languages Creative Arts Early Education, Health & Social Care Science, Sport & EngineeringThe college welcomed approximately 17,000 students each year, of which approx. 1000 were from overseas. International Students Stevenson College Edinburgh catered to the needs of a wide range of international students from all over the world. Students could study English Language, university foundation courses as well as higher education programmes. The main intakes were in August and January every year. A summer school took place every summer through the months of June, July and August. As well as individual international students, the college could provide bespoke training to groups from overseas, including professional training in a huge range of subjects.

Corstorphine Old Parish Church, formerly St. John's Collegiate Church, is at the old centre of Corstorphine, a village incorporated to the west area of Edinburgh. Built in the 15th century, in the churchyard of a 12th-century or earlier chapel, the former collegiate church was listed category A by Historic Scotland on December 14, 1970.

Bankhead is a non-residential area of western Edinburgh, Scotland. It borders the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720) and Hermiston Gait (M8 motorway terminus) to the west, the Calders neighbourhood to the south – accessed via a pedestrian underpass, Sighthill to the east, and South Gyle/Edinburgh Park to the north. It is mostly occupied by a large industrial park. Amongst the companies here, Royal Mail and Burtons Biscuits have a large presence. Ethicon also had a plant here, but it has closed, and will reportedly be replaced by a sports facilities. Edinburgh College, the former Stevenson College and the Sighthill campus of Napier University are just to the west.

Craigievar Estate is a modern housing estate situated in the suburb of East Craigs to the west of Edinburgh, Scotland. The name comes from Craigievar Castle in Aberdeenshire.

Craigmount High School is a non-denominational secondary school in Edinburgh, Scotland with 1,269 pupils located in the west of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is situated between Corstorphine, East Craigs and Drumbrae and it moved into new premises at the beginning of the 2003 academic year. In April 2016, the new building was closed down by Edinburgh Council due to safety concerns; measures were put in place to continue classes in other premises. The new building reopened as of August 2016 when the building met the minimum safety standards.
