Stocksfield railway station

Stocksfield, formerly Broomley and Stocksfield is a civil parish in Northumberland, England. At the 2001 census, the parish, which includes the village of Stocksfield, along with the hamlets of Apperley Dene, Branch End, Broomley, Hindley, New Ridley and Painshawfield, had a population of 3,039, falling slightly to 3,011 at the 2011 Census.On 11 January 2019 the name of the parish was officially changed to Stocksfield, to reflect developments in the area and changes in population over the years. On 1 April 1955 the parish was renamed from "Broomley" to "Broomley and Stocksfield".

Stocksfield is a small commuter village situated close to the River Tyne, about 14 miles (23 km) west of Newcastle upon Tyne in the southern part of Northumberland, England. There are several smaller communities within the parish of Stocksfield, including Branch End, New Ridley, Broomley, Hindley and the Painshawfield Estate. Other villages in Stocksfield's postal district include Bywell, Newton, Mickley, and Hedley on the Hill.

Bywell Bridge is a 19th-century stone bridge across the River Tyne. It is a Grade II listed building.

Bywell Castle is situated in the village of Bywell overlooking the River Tyne, four miles east of Corbridge, Northumberland, England (grid reference NZ049615). It is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It was built in 1430 by the Neville family (see Earl of Westmorland) but was never completed. The impressive three-storey gatehouse remains, together with part of a curtain wall into which has been incorporated a much later house (Grade II listed). King Henry VI took refuge in Bywell Castle after the Battle of Hexham in 1464.The Castle is privately owned and not normally open to visitors. It is the seat of the Viscounts Allendale. Bywell Castle gave its name to a ship, which ploughed into the SS Princess Alice on the River Thames in September 1878, sinking her within minutes. The number of lives lost in the disaster are unclear but estimates have ranged from 590 to 640.

It lies 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Stocksfield Station, between Hexham and Newcastle upon Tyne. Local services include a doctors' surgery, pharmacy, petrol station with associated shop and post office, two garages, a hairdresser, newsagent, children's play area and Quaker meeting house. There is a half hourly bus service to Hexham and Newcastle with Go North East "Tyne Valley 10".

New Ridley is a hamlet in the county of Northumberland, England. It is in the parish of Stocksfield and the parliamentary constituency of Hexham. It is one of four "Ridleys" in the parish, along with Old Ridley, East Ridley and Ridley Mill.Services in New Ridley include Stocksfield Golf Club and the Dr. Syntax public house. The pub is named after a racehorse of the same name which was in turn named after a fictional character created by the writer William Combe.

The Painshawfield, Batt House and Birches Nook Estate is a housing estate in the village of Stocksfield in Northumberland, England. It is commonly known as the Painshawfield Estate, being named after one of the three farms on whose land the Estate was built in the years following 1895.

Hindley is a small hamlet, comprising around 20 residences. It is in the parish of Stocksfield and is just to the south of Stocksfield in Northumberland with Broomley to the west and Whittonstall to the east. It is south of the River Tyne. Hindley is composed of a large house, Hindley Hall (now split up into three houses and four flats), a farm (now converted into residences) and a post box.

Apperley Dene is a hamlet in Stocksfield parish, Northumberland, England. It is situated south of the River Tyne between Hexham and Newcastle upon Tyne.
