Bywell

Bywell Hall is a privately owned 18th-century country house situated on the north bank of the River Tyne at Bywell, Northumberland, England. It is a Grade II* listed building.

St Andrew's Church is an Anglican church in the village of Bywell, Northumberland, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

Bywell Castle is situated in the village of Bywell overlooking the River Tyne, four miles east of Corbridge, Northumberland, England (grid reference NZ049615). It is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It was built in 1430 by the Neville family (see Earl of Westmorland) but was never completed. The impressive three-storey gatehouse remains, together with part of a curtain wall into which has been incorporated a much later house (Grade II listed). King Henry VI took refuge in Bywell Castle after the Battle of Hexham in 1464.The Castle is privately owned and not normally open to visitors. It is the seat of the Viscounts Allendale. Bywell Castle gave its name to a ship, which ploughed into the SS Princess Alice on the River Thames in September 1878, sinking her within minutes. The number of lives lost in the disaster are unclear but estimates have ranged from 590 to 640.

Stocksfield is a railway station on the Tyne Valley Line, which runs between Newcastle and Carlisle via Hexham. The station, situated 14 miles 47 chains (14.6 mi; 23.5 km) west of Newcastle, serves the villages of Bywell, New Ridley and Stocksfield in Northumberland, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

Stocksfield, formerly Broomley and Stocksfield is a civil parish in Northumberland, England. At the 2001 census, the parish, which includes the village of Stocksfield, along with the hamlets of Apperley Dene, Branch End, Broomley, Hindley, New Ridley and Painshawfield, had a population of 3,039, falling slightly to 3,011 at the 2011 Census.On 11 January 2019 the name of the parish was officially changed to Stocksfield, to reflect developments in the area and changes in population over the years. On 1 April 1955 the parish was renamed from "Broomley" to "Broomley and Stocksfield".

Other villages in Stocksfield's postal district include Bywell, Newton, Mickley, and Hedley on the Hill.

Broomley is a village in the civil parish of Stocksfield, in Northumberland, England. It is situated between Hexham and Newcastle upon Tyne, to the south of the River Tyne. "Broomley School" is located not in Broomley, but in the neighbouring village of Stocksfield. Until 11 January 2019 Stocksfield parish was officially called "Broomley and Stocksfield", and until 1 April 1955 it was called just "Broomley".

Hindley is a small hamlet, comprising around 20 residences. It is in the parish of Stocksfield and is just to the south of Stocksfield in Northumberland with Broomley to the west and Whittonstall to the east. It is south of the River Tyne. Hindley is composed of a large house, Hindley Hall (now split up into three houses and four flats), a farm (now converted into residences) and a post box.

Styford Bridge is a modern concrete bridge carrying the A68 road across the River Tyne east of Riding Mill, Northumberland, England and forms part of the A68 bypass of Corbridge.

New Ridley is a hamlet in the county of Northumberland, England. It is in the parish of Stocksfield and the parliamentary constituency of Hexham. It is one of four "Ridleys" in the parish, along with Old Ridley, East Ridley and Ridley Mill.Services in New Ridley include Stocksfield Golf Club and the Dr. Syntax public house. The pub is named after a racehorse of the same name which was in turn named after a fictional character created by the writer William Combe.

Branch End is part of the village of Stocksfield in Northumberland, England. It is situated at the junction of the A695 Main Road with New Ridley Road. It lies 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Stocksfield Station, between Hexham and Newcastle upon Tyne. Local services include a doctors' surgery, pharmacy, petrol station with associated shop and post office, two garages, a hairdresser, newsagent, children's play area and Quaker meeting house. There is a half hourly bus service to Hexham and Newcastle with Go North East "Tyne Valley 10".
