London South Bank University

The National Bakery School, a culinary school at London South Bank University, London, England, was founded in 1894 and is now the world's oldest bakery school.

The Borough Road Gallery is an art gallery at London South Bank University on Borough Road in south London, England. The gallery celebrates the artist David Bomberg who taught at the Borough Polytechnic, now London South Bank University. The gallery includes the Sarah Rose Collection of his pictures and those of other artists in the Borough Group, totalling around 150 works.The gallery opened in June 2012, financed by the UK Heritage Lottery Fund. Artists whose works are featured include: David Bomberg (1890–1957), Dennis Creffield (born 1931), Cliff Holden (born 1919), Thomas Holden (born 1957), Edna Mann (1926–1985), Dorothy Mead (1928–1975), and Miles Richmond (1922–2008).

The Massacre of St George's Fields occurred on 10 May 1768 when government soldiers opened fire on demonstrators that had gathered at St George's Fields, Southwark, in south London. The protest was against the imprisonment of the radical Member of Parliament John Wilkes for writing an article that severely criticised King George III. After the reading of the Riot Act telling the crowds to disperse within the hour, six or seven people were killed when fired on by troops. The incident in Britain entrenched the enduring idiom of "reading the Riot Act to someone", meaning "to reprimand severely", with the added sense of a stern warning. The phrase remains in common use in the English language.

Borough Road is in Southwark, London SE1. It runs east–west between St George's Circus and Borough High Street.

South Bank Technopark at London South Bank University, England, houses the main administration for the university, including the Vice-Chancellor's Office, under the leadership of Prof. David Phoenix. The Technopark building was opened in November 1985. Hugh West became its CEO in 1988. It is designed in a modular way, with a floor area of 3,000 m2, which can be divided into units from around 19 m2 in size. As well as university offices, there are also a number of small companies that rent space in the building. The Technopark currently houses 37 high-tech businesses. Technopark is located in London Road just north of the Elephant and Castle on the east side of the road. The Elephant and Castle tube station is very close to the building.

Ministry of Sound or Ministry of Sound Group is a multimedia entertainment business based in London with a nightclub, shared workspace and private members club, worldwide events operation, music publishing business and fitness studio. James Palumbo is the co-founder and former chairman and CEO of the Group. He handed over the day-to-day running of the business to Lohan Presencer in 2008. In 2018, Presencer became chairman.

Borough Road was a mainline railway station in Southwark, south London, located on Borough Road, close to the location Borough Underground station. It was on the London, Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR) and was first opened in June 1864 on the LCDR's City Branch. The line crossed the River Thames and ran up through St. Paul's (now Blackfriars) to terminate in the City of London. From 1885, following the closure to passengers of Blackfriars Bridge station, Borough Road was the first stop out of central London for trains heading south from St. Paul's.Ultimately, Borough Road was an early victim of competition from the City & South London Railway's Borough station opened nearby in 1890. Passenger numbers dwindled and Borough Road closed in April 1907, at which time it was owned by the South Eastern and Chatham Railway. Although there is no trace of the platforms, the former entrance to the station still exists below the Southwark Bridge Road viaduct. In 1916, two other stations on the line to the south, Walworth Road and Camberwell, were also closed. Today, main line trains run straight through from Blackfriars to either Loughborough Junction or Denmark Hill, stopping only at Elephant & Castle.

The Ministry of Sound Radio (MoS) began service as a UK-based radio station operating since 1999. It was accessible on the Ministry of Sound website as streaming audio until March 2016.Current MoS radio's DJs include: DJ Bailey, X-Press 2, Hed Kandi residents Andy Norman and Krystal Roxx, Markus Schulz, DJ Storm, Hospital Records, Matt Darey, Above and Beyond, Todd Edwards, and Mark Knight. The current team is led by Steve O'Connor and syndicates radio shows around the globe, as well as running the online stream and on-demand options. The station is based near the Ministry of Sound, at 103 Gaunt Street in south London.

The Bakerloo line extension is a proposed extension of the London Underground Bakerloo line in South London from its current terminus at Elephant & Castle to Lewisham station.An extension southwards from Elephant & Castle was considered as early as 1913, with a formal proposal to extend to Camberwell in the late 1940s. Since the late 2000s, Transport for London (TfL) has been planning an extension of the line, with a route to Lewisham via Old Kent Road safeguarded in 2021. TfL has also proposed taking over services on the Hayes line to Hayes and Beckenham Junction, which could occur following the completion of the extension to Lewisham.The London Underground extension would serve areas of Southeast London with low levels of public transport availability, improving accessibility and reducing journey times. The extension would also support regeneration and housing development in the area. Estimated to cost between £4.7bn to £7.9bn (in 2017 prices), the extension would take around 7 years to construct. Due to financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, work to implement the extension is currently on hold.

Skipton House is a high specification office building in Elephant and Castle, Central London. It was built for a Japanese bank and then sold on to accommodate staff of the Department of Health who were moved out of Alexander Fleming House. The project architect was Paul Cayford. Its address is 80 London Road SE1 6LH, next to the Bakerloo line entrance to Elephant & Castle tube station. It was opened by Virginia Bottomley, who was then Secretary of State for Health, on 15 February 1993. Its floor area is 250,000 sq ft (23,000 m2). From outside, the two outstanding characteristics are the dark brown marble cladding and the impressive entranceway. Inside, there is a large glass-topped central atrium, with the second to sixth floors having balconies. When the Information Centre for Health and Social Care was created on April 1, 2005, its London office was in Skipton House. It has since moved to Leeds, West Yorkshire. Furthermore, during 2005 substantial numbers of Department of Health staff were moved in from nearby Eileen House and Hannibal House where those leases had expired. In 2011 a further tranche of Department of Health staff were moved in from nearby New Kings Beam House. It is the headquarters of the NHS Counter Fraud Authority.

London Road is a road in Southwark, Central London, England, which connects St George's Circus (northwest) and the Elephant and Castle roundabout (southeast). To the east is the campus of London South Bank University including the Technopark building and the London Road Building, in a triangle formed by London Road, Borough Road and Newington Causeway. At the southeastern end is the Elephant and Castle tube station.The road forms part of the A201 and is one-way for most traffic (flowing southeast), with a buses and cycles only lane heading in the opposite direction. To the southeast, the A201 continues as the New Kent Road and to the north is Blackfriars Road leading to the Thames at Blackfriars Bridge and thence the City of London. There are a number of shops at the northwestern end of the road.
