RAF Ossington

Ossington is a village in the county of Nottinghamshire, England 7 miles north of Newark-on-Trent. It is in the civil parish of Ossington, but for census purposes its population count is included with the civil parishes of Ompton and Laxton and Moorhouse. It was centred on Ossington Hall, the ancestral home of the Denison family, but the house was demolished in 1964 and all that remains are a few outbuildings and a private chapel that now serves the parish as Holy Rood Church, Ossington. This is a Grade I listed building, originally 12th century and rebuilt in 1782–1783 by the architect John Carr, with minor 19th-century alterations and additions. It includes earlier monuments and stained glass. There is a barrel organ built by Thomas Robson in 1840.

The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 Census was 286. The name derives from the Old English words for Ecgmund's farm/settlement. The nearest larger towns are Retford and Newark-on-Trent. It is located approximately 35 metres above sea level. It is part of the Caunton Ward of the administrative district of Newark and Sherwood District Council and the county of Nottinghamshire. It lies within the Parliamentary constituency of Newark. Egmanton was mentioned in the Domesday Survey of 1086. According to the 2001 census it has 254 inhabitants in 101 households [1]. The amenities include an Anglican church, a village hall (formerly the old school) and a pub, 'The Old Plough'. The main economic activity in the village is farming.

Laxton is a small village in the civil parish of Laxton and Moorhouse in the English county of Nottinghamshire, situated about 25 miles northeast of Nottingham city centre. In 1981 Laxton was sold to the Crown Estate, which is committed to maintaining the open field system. The population of the civil parish (including Ompton and Ossington) at the 2011 Census was 489.Laxton is best known for having the last remaining working open field system in the United Kingdom. Its name is recorded first in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Laxintone, and may come from Anglo-Saxon Leaxingatūn, meaning the 'farmstead or estate of the people of a man called Leaxa'. It is possibly the namesake of the town of Lexington, Massachusetts, and thus ultimately of all the other towns named Lexington in the United States.

St Michael the Archangel’s Church, Laxton is a Grade I listed Church of England parish in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham in Laxton, Nottinghamshire.

Laxton Castle is a late 11th- or early 12th-century medieval castle located north of the village of Laxton in Nottinghamshire, England. According to an early 20th-century report by the British Archaeological Association, the site is notable not only as "the most striking specimen of a mount and court stronghold" in the area, but also for "the nearly perfect condition of its two courts", which made of it a valuable resource for study.The remaining earthworks and masonry ruins have since 2003 been the subject of study of archaeologists at Birmingham University and the University of Nottingham. The property on which the ruins rest was also the site of a 16th-century manor house known as Laxton Hall.
