Romanby is a village and civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. Romanby is situated just south-west of Northallerton, and at the 2001 UK census had a population of 6,051, increasing to 6,177 at the 2011 Census. The name Romanby suggests that the village dates from Roman times, but in fact it is thought to derive from the Viking name Hromund. The Community of Romanby is served by Romanby Primary School. The local secondary school and sixth form is Northallerton School. Romanby Church was demolished in 1523 on the orders of the Bishop of Durham, Thomas Wolsey. Romanby now has two churches, St James' Church (built in 1882) and Romanby Methodist Church. Romanby Golf Course lies on the outskirts of Romanby, it has an 18-hole course, floodlit driving range and a clubhouse. Northallerton Town Football Club is located in Romanby. The village has several shops, a post office, a dentist, a hairdressers and a pub, the Golden Lion. The Wensleydale Railway passes over a bridge just on the outskirts of Romanby Village on its way up to Redmire from Northallerton West railway station. North Yorkshire County council offices stand between Romanby village and Northallerton on what was previously a racecourse. Designed by the York architect Walter Brierley for the North Riding council. The main building was constructed in 1904–14 in two storeys of ashlar and red brick to a square courtyard plan, with a 15 bay frontage by 23 bay returns. It is a grade II* listed building.

Northallerton railway station is on the East Coast Main Line serving the town of Northallerton in North Yorkshire, England. It is between Thirsk to the south and Darlington to the north. Its three-letter station code is NTR. The station is managed by TransPennine Express (TPE) and also served by Grand Central (GC) and London North Eastern Railway (LNER) trains. The station is on one of the fastest parts of the East Coast Main Line. LNER, Lumo and CrossCountry express services pass through the station at speeds of up to 125 mph (200 km/h). In 2014 the Wensleydale Railway opened a temporary station at Northallerton West. The heritage railway aims to run trains into the station from Redmire and eventually Garsdale on the Settle–Carlisle line.

The Wensleydale Railway is a heritage railway in Wensleydale and Lower Swaledale in North Yorkshire, England. It was built in stages by different railway companies and originally extended to Garsdale railway station on the Settle-Carlisle line. Since 2003, the remaining line has been run as a heritage railway. The line runs 22 miles (35 km) between Northallerton West station, about a fifteen-minute walk from Northallerton station on the East Coast Main Line, and Redmire. Regular passenger services operate between Leeming Bar and Redmire, with a shuttle to Scruton, occasional freight services and excursions travel the full length of the line. The line formerly ran from Northallerton to Garsdale on the Settle-Carlisle Railway but the track between Redmire and Garsdale has been lifted and several bridges have been demolished, although one of the stated aims of the Wensleydale Railway is to reinstate the line from Redmire to Garsdale. Additionally, a separate proposal exists to link Hawes to Garsdale with a view to providing commuter and tourist services rather than heritage services.

Warlaby is a small village and civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 Census was less than 100. Details are included in the civil parish of Ainderby Steeple. In 2015, North Yorkshire County Council estimated the population to be around 50 people. It is near the A684 and Morton-on-Swale. It is 1.6 miles (2.5 km) west of Northallerton. The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book as having 75 ploughlands. the name derives from Old English and is believed to be from Wærlaf's By, a personal name.

Northallerton Castle was a defensive structure in Northallerton in North Yorkshire, England. The structure is thought to have been constructed c. 1068 and was largely made out of timber with a palisade wall. It was destroyed by order of King Henry in 1178. The ground outlines of the site were removed by railway building in the first half of the 19th century.

County Hall in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, England, serves as the headquarters of North Yorkshire Council and the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority. The building was opened in 1906 and has also been the headquarters of the North Riding County Council (NRCC) until 1974, and then North Yorkshire County Council until 2023. The Vale of Mowbray is a plain in North Yorkshire, England. It is bounded by the Tees lowlands to the north, the North York Moors and the Hambleton Hills to the east, the Vale of York to the south, and the Yorkshire Dales to the west. Northallerton, Catterick Garrison, and Thirsk are the largest settlements within the area. The Vale of Mowbray is distinguishable from the Vale of York by its meandering rivers and more undulating landscape. The vale is the floodplain of the River Swale and its tributaries, including the Wiske and Cod Beck. The river enters the vale from Swaledale, in the north-west, then flows in a south-easterly direction before entering the Vale of York. The underlying geology of the landscape is sandstone and mudstone, with clays and silts in the south-west. The region is agricultural, with a mix of arable and grassland, though isolated pockets of woodland remain. The fields are medium-sized and typically bounded by hawthorn hedges. The villages are often linear, following the major through road, and the houses are generally brick built with pantile roofs. The vale is a major north-south transport corridor, containing the A1 road and the East Coast Main Line, which are respectively the main road and rail links between London and Edinburgh.
