The Anna University–K. B. Chandrasekhar Research Centre (AU–KBC) is located in the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) campus. The centre was founded by K.B. Chandrasekhar, an MIT alumnus and the co-founder of Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai. The AU–KBC Research Centre is a public–private research centre in India, formed through the partnership between a wholly for-profit company (KBC Research Foundation Private Limited, KBCRF) and a state institution (Anna University). The centre's original goal, when it had its own employees, was to foster research and create products of international quality. Its current goal is to create revenue for KBCRF and its sister for-profit concerns.

Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) is an engineering institute located in Chromepet, Chennai, India. It is one of the four autonomous constituent colleges of Anna University. It was established in 1949 by Chinnaswami Rajam as the first self-financing engineering institute in the country and later merged with Anna University. The institute was among the first educational institutions in India to offer new areas of specialization such as aeronautical engineering, automobile engineering, electronics engineering and instrumentation technology. MIT was the first self-financing institute opened in India. MIT is also among the institutes in India that offered postgraduate courses in Avionics and Mechatronics. The institute has a unique practice of "T numbers" that facilitates mentoring of students by their respective seniors. Established in 1949, MIT initially offered three-year diploma courses (DMIT) in Engineering for Science graduates (B.Sc.). After Anna University was established in 1978, MIT became one of the constituent institutions of the university. Post this merging, three-year B.Tech. degree courses were offered to B.Sc. graduates. Over the years, the institute has expanded its original programmes. Presently, it offers in addition undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Production Engineering, Rubber and Plastics Technology, Computer Science Engineering and Information Technology. Since 1996, the institute accepts students who have passed the 12th board examinations for its four-year undergraduate programme.

The Chrompet Flyover is an elevated rotary type interchange flyover that connects GST road (NH 45) with the Madras Institute of Technology gate in Chennai, India.

Chromepet is a suburban neighbourhood of Chennai, India. Located in the southern Chennai Metropolitan Area, it is governed by the Tambaram Municipal Corporation. Chromepet is located 22 km from the Chennai Central Railway Station, and lies on the Grand Southern Trunk (GST road), close to Thirumudivakkam and Tambaram, and next to Pallavaram. The 200-feet road connects Chromepet with Thoraipakkam. Chromepet is 6 km from Outer Ring Road, Thirumudivakkam, and 4 km south of the Chennai International Airport at Trisulam. The neighbourhood is home to the Madras Institute of Technology, whose alumni include former president of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and Tamil writer Sujatha. The neighbourhood is served by the Chromepet railway station of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network and is a residential locality. Chromepet votes for the Sriperumbudur parliamentary constituency in the Indian national elections.

Nagappa Nagar is a colony in Chromepet, Chennai; it is a development which lies beyond New Colony to the west. Once empty land owned by the Chrome Leather Company, it was sold to builders and the entire land has been developed. Years of Developments : From 1984 till date. It is now a predominantly residential colony with around 300 houses/flats and it is a good suburban colony of Chennai. Most of the plots are individual houses with some apartments too. Srimathi Sundravalli Memorial School is also part of the colony which was developed along with the colony in 1986. There are few departmental stores in it which serves the colony needs. Chandran Nagar, New Colony, Nagalkeni and Lakshmipuram are the colonies near Nagappa Nagar.There are well established roads, Underground sewage & drinking water supply. Many Doctors / Specialists are residing and practising in this locality. Skin specialist, Homoeopathy specialists, Child specialists etc. are practising here. The ground water is contaminated in most of this area, by the surrounding leather tanneries in this area. Only a few exceptions are there. This area comes under Pallavaram assembly constituency of Tamil Nadu. A resident association (registered with the govt of Tamil Nadu) works with the residents and provides security arrangements by employing night watchmen and also facilitates cleaning of roads by working with the Thiruneermalai panchayat.

Srimathi Sundaravalli Memorial School (or SSM) is located in Nagappa Nagar, Chrompet, Chennai, India.A second school was started in perungaluthur in 2012 which now hosts class PreKG to 12. It is located 13 km from the main school. The school follows CBSE standard of education. The school is named after Smt. Sundaravalli, mother of the founder Mr. K. Santhanam. The school was inaugurated on 11 June 1986 by the educationist the late Kulapathi Dr. Balakrishna Joshi in the presence of Sri Varadha Ethiraja Jeer Swami of Sriperumbudur. It is a co-educational school, with classes from preschool to 12, and is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. This school is connected with Sarada Secondary School. The school is famous for its logistically sound student transportation system, using almost 100 buses, owned by the school. The school has trained many students who today work in the Indian Military, hospitals, and the school itself. Its results in class 10, 12 public exams. The faculty is well trained and said to have many teachers who hold masters degree which is rare in other Indian Schools The school trains the students in fine arts: keyboard, vocal, mridangam, veena, photography, bharatanatyam, violin and arts and crafts. There are two periods per week for classes 6 and above. Three periods for classes 3 to 5 of the same per week.

Government Hospital of Thoracic Medicine, popularly known as the Tambaram TB Sanatorium, is a major state-owned hospital situated in Chennai, India. The hospital is funded and managed by the state government of Tamil Nadu. It was founded in 1928.

Pallavaram Lake, also known as Periya aeri (Big lake) or Pallavaram aeri, is situated along Pallavaram Thuraipakkam Radial Road. It used to be a large lake, but it dried up and was polluted by industrial wastewater and garbage. A burial site remains and is used for burial rites.

National Institute of Siddha is an institute for study and research of Siddha medicine. It was established in 2005 at Tambaram, Chennai, India. It is one of the eight national institutes established across nation, for training and research in "Indian Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy education", by Department of AYUSH, Government of India,It is affiliated to the government-owned Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and is also the national headquarters of the Central Council of Research in Siddha (CCRS), the exclusive body for Siddha research.

Tambaram Sanatorium railway station is one of the railway stations of the Chennai Beach–Chengelpet section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network. It serves the neighbourhood of Tambaram Sanatorium and surrounding areas. It is situated about 27 km from Chennai Beach and has an elevation of 32 m (105 ft) above sea level.
