Chatsworth House is a stately home in the Derbyshire Dales, 4 miles (6.4 km) north-east of Bakewell and 9 miles (14 km) west of Chesterfield, England. The seat of the Duke of Devonshire, it has belonged to the Cavendish family since 1549. It stands on the east bank of the River Derwent, across from hills between the Derwent and Wye valleys, amid parkland backed by wooded hills that rise to heather moorland. The house holds major collections of paintings, furniture, Old Master drawings, neoclassical sculptures and books. Chosen several times as Britain's favourite country house, it is a Grade I listed property from the 17th century, altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 2011–2012 it underwent a £14-million restoration. The owner is the Chatsworth House Trust, an independent charitable foundation formed in 1981, on behalf of the Cavendish family.

The column of the Temple of Poseidon is one of the surviving features from the period of the sixth Duke of Devonshire in the Chatsworth House garden. Surmounted by an over life-sized bronze bust of the sixth Duke, the classical Greek column composed of four Doric marble drums was erected in 1840s. It is located at the south termination of the Serpentine Hedge, by the midpoint of a footpath linking between the Maze and the south end of the Broadwalk. The object has been Grade II registered since 1987.

The population is largely in and around Chatsworth House and is considered to be too low to justify a parish council. Instead, there is a parish meeting, at which all electors may attend. Most of Chatsworth belongs to the Duke of Devonshire's Chatsworth estate, the villages of which include Beeley, Pilsley and Edensor.

The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 145.Much of the village is privately owned, by the Dukes of Devonshire, the Cavendish family. Most of the deceased of the family are buried in the churchyard of St Peter's Church.

St Peter's is the closest parish church in the Church of England to Chatsworth House, home of the Dukes of Devonshire, most of whom are buried in the churchyard. St Peter's is in a joint parish with St Anne's Church, Beeley. The historic listing summary for the church states that it was built in the 12th century, modified in the 15th and "rebuilt in 1867 by Sir George Gilbert Scott".

Beeley is a village and civil parish in northern Derbyshire, England. Located near Bakewell in the Derbyshire Dales, it is situated on the B6012 road, between Rowsley and Edensor. The civil parish population at the 2011 Census was 195.It is part of the Peak District National Park, and has been part of the Chatsworth estate since the 18th century, when the Duke of Devonshire bought Beeley Hill Top and then much of the property piecemeal. Beeley Old Hall dates from the 17th century. On School Lane there is an outdoor centre called Dukes Barn. The Peak District Boundary Walk runs through the village.

Baslow village is composed of several distinct areas: Bubnell, Bridge End, Over End and Nether End. The village's civil parish is called Baslow and Bubnell, which in the 2011 census had a population of 1,178.
