Maternidade Alfredo da Costa (Portuguese pronunciation: [mɐ.tɨɾ.ni.ˈða.ðɨ aɫ.fɾe.ðu dɐ ˈkɔʃ.tɐ], "Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital") is a public Central Hospital serving the Greater Lisbon area as part of the Central Lisbon University Hospital Centre (CHULC), a state-owned enterprise. Established in 1932 as a specialised maternity hospital, Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital was created to replace the old and increasingly inadequate Enfermaria de Santa Bárbara (Saint Barbara Ward), in Saint Joseph's Hospital, then the only maternity ward in the city. It evolved into a national reference centre in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, social assistance and scientific research; it remains one of the largest maternity hospitals in the country (3,673 childbirths in 2017).Construction of the building, designed by Ventura Terra, lasted from 1914 to 1932, and was significantly delayed by the First World War, increased construction costs, and a chronically under-funded budget. It is named after Manuel Vicente Alfredo da Costa (1859–1910), eminent surgeon and pioneering obstetrician who had lobbied for the creation of a maternity hospital in Lisbon since 1898. On 21 January 1983, Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital was made a Honorary Member of the Order of Merit.

Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear (IPFN) (Institute for Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion) is a research unit of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Lisbon, and a leading Portuguese institution in physics research. IPFN has the status of Associate Laboratory in the thematic areas of controlled nuclear fusion, plasma technologies and intense lasers, granted by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. IPFN was formally created in January 2008, as a result of the merging between the former research units Center for Nuclear Fusion and Center for Plasma Physics. Eduardo VII Park (Portuguese: Parque Eduardo VII) is a public park in Lisbon, Portugal. The park occupies an area of 26 hectares (64 acres) to the north of Avenida da Liberdade and Marquis of Pombal Square in Lisbon's city center. The park is named for King Edward VII of the United Kingdom, who visited Portugal in 1903 to strengthen relations between the two countries and reaffirm the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance. Until Edward's visit the park was called Parque da Liberdade (Liberty Park). In 1945 Portuguese Modernist architect Francisco Keil do Amaral redesigned the park to its current configuration. The Carlos Lopes Pavilion, the former Portuguese pavilion at the 1922 Rio de Janeiro International Exposition, and the Estufa Fria—a 1.5-hectare (3.7-acre) greenhouse garden—are situated within the park.
