Martin Luther King Jr. High School is a public high school located in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, United States, with a Lithonia postal address. It opened in August 2001 as the newest high school in the DeKalb County School System, and was named after the late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Its boundary includes a portion of Stonecrest.

Southwest DeKalb High School (SWD) is a high school located in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. It is a part of the DeKalb County School System. It houses one of the two High Achievers Magnet Programs in DeKalb County, the other being Chamblee High School. There are also three Special Interest Magnet schools in Dekalb County. Stonecrest is a city in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The boundaries of the city generally lie in the far southeastern corner of the county, and a smaller portion just north of Interstate 20. The city borders the existing municipality of Lithonia, as well as Rockdale and Henry counties. Residents in the area voted in the November 2016 General Election to approve the city. In March 2017, elections were held to elect representatives for five city council districts as well as mayor. Jason Lary, a former insurance executive, concert promoter, and advocate of incorporation was elected the city's first mayor. The City Council members are District 1, Jimmy Clanton, District 2 Rob Turner, District 3 Jazzmin Cobble, District 4 George Turner and District 5 Tammy Grimes. Also the area is represented at the county level by District 5 Commissioner Mereda Davis-Johnson and Super District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran- Johnson. The area is home to the Mall at Stonecrest, for which it is named, as well as the Davidson-Arabia Nature Preserve, Flat Rock Archives, and Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area.The city had voted a plan to deannex 345 acres of its territory so that the Georgia Legislature could create a new city, to be called Amazon, Georgia, if Stonecrest had been selected to host Amazon's new corporate headquarters, a project which would result in billions of dollars of investment and the creation of 50,000 jobs, a number equal to the estimated population of Stonecrest.Jason Lary, the former Mayor of Stonecrest pleaded guilty in federal court to stealing COVID-19 relief funds that were supposed to go to struggling businesses. Jason Lary, whose resignation went into effect at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan.5, 2022, pleaded guilty to three counts involving wire fraud, theft of government funds and conspiracy. Lary agreed that he diverted at least $650,000 in relief money by requiring Stonecrest churches and businesses to kick back a portion of their grant money to companies he controlled.

The Flat Rock Archives is an African American historical museum located in the city of Stonecrest, Georgia. The mission of the archive is to preserve rural African American history in Georgia. The archive is located in a historic home built by T.A. Bryant, Sr., and was donated in 2005, by Rev. T.A. Bryant, Jr. and his sister, Zudia Guthrie, to preserve and store all the Flat Rock records and documents. It was established as a museum and resource to genealogical and historic research, as well as a heritage tourism site. The Flat Rock Archives consists of a variety of historic sites including the Flat Rock African American Historic Cemetery. Columbia High School (CHS) is a four-year public high school located in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. It is in the Candler-McAfee census-designated place. It is operated by DeKalb County Public Schools. It opened in 1966. In 1991, the Mathematics, Science and Technology Magnet Programs were established at Columbia, which gave students in the Metro Atlanta area an opportunity to have a more focus-based education in these areas. Columbia's mascot is the Eagle and its colors are orange and blue. The school motto is "One Team, One Dream!" The school was given the Georgia School of Excellence award in 1996. Extracurricular activities include athletics, marching and concert band, color guard, Future Business Leaders of America, Beta Club, and JROTC. The boundary of Columbia High School neighbors those of Southwest Dekalb High School, Towers High School, and McNair High School.

Miller Grove High School is a public high school in Stonecrest, Georgia, near Lithonia. It is part of the DeKalb County School District.In March 2020, an image of a student reading a book on a staircase with the caption "Only at miller grove" was posted on Instagram, and became a viral meme on social media, particularly TikTok, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram.

Greenhaven is a proposed city in southern DeKalb County, Georgia, outside Atlanta. It would consolidate several areas of DeKalb County south of U.S. Route 78, excluding the city of Stonecrest. Greenhaven would be the second largest city in the state after Atlanta, with a population of 300,000–of which 87 percent are African-American. The proposed city was announced by a city group in 2015 and unsuccessfully brought to the state legislature for approval three times, most recently in 2018.

Panola Mountain is a 100-acre (40 ha) granite monadnock near Stockbridge on the boundary between Henry County and Rockdale County, Georgia. The peak is 946 feet (288 m) above sea level, rising 260 feet (79 m) above the South River. The South River marks the boundary between Henry, Rockdale, and DeKalb counties. Due to its delicate ecological features, Panola Mountain was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1980.

Redan is a census-designated place (CDP) in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2020 census, the CDP had a total population of 31,749. It is a predominantly African American community in eastern DeKalb County, and is a suburb of Atlanta. According to tradition, the name "Rednan" is an amalgamation of the names of two early settlers: N. M. Reid and Annie Alford. Redan High School and Lithonia High School are located here.

New Birth Missionary Baptist Church is a charismatic Christian Baptist megachurch in Stonecrest, DeKalb County, Georgia. Its senior pastor is Jamal Bryant since 2018.

Towers High School (THS) is a high school in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. It is a part of the DeKalb County School System. It is physically within the Belvedere Park census-designated place, but has a Decatur postal address. The school was built in 1963-1964 and currently includes 9th through 12th grades. In 1963, initially attending double sessions at Avondale High School, grades 8-10 moved into the school during the fall. The cafeteria and gymnasium were still to be completed. THS subsequently added a junior and senior class during the next two years. At that time period there were no middle schools, elementary was 1-7 and traditional high schools were 8–12. The first class graduated in 1966 and the first class to complete all five years at the school graduated on June 3, 1968.

The Arabia Mountain Path (AMP) is a paved biking and hiking trail connecting sites within the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area, Georgia, United States, built by the PATH Foundation. The trail covers more than 30 linear miles and features hills, sections of boardwalk, a serpentine bridge, and access to 13 free trail head parking areas. The AMP connects a number of visitor destinations and recreational areas including Panola Mountain State Park, the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve, the Mall at Stonecrest, and historic Lithonia, Georgia.The AMP was designed to hug the landscape and connect various historical, ecological, and cultural landscapes within the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. Visitors to the trail will see diverse scenery including historic barns, lakes, unique plant life, and granite outcrops.
