Towers High School

Greenhaven is a proposed city in southern DeKalb County, Georgia, outside Atlanta. It would consolidate several areas of DeKalb County south of U.S. Route 78, excluding the city of Stonecrest. Greenhaven would be the second largest city in the state after Atlanta, with a population of 300,000–of which 87 percent are African-American. The proposed city was announced by a city group in 2015 and unsuccessfully brought to the state legislature for approval three times, most recently in 2018.

Columbia High School (CHS) is a four-year public high school located in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. It is in the Candler-McAfee census-designated place. It is operated by DeKalb County Public Schools. It opened in 1966. In 1991, the Mathematics, Science and Technology Magnet Programs were established at Columbia, which gave students in the Metro Atlanta area an opportunity to have a more focus-based education in these areas. Columbia's mascot is the Eagle and its colors are orange and blue. The school motto is "One Team, One Dream!" The school was given the Georgia School of Excellence award in 1996. Extracurricular activities include athletics, marching and concert band, color guard, Future Business Leaders of America, Beta Club, and JROTC. The boundary of Columbia High School neighbors those of Southwest Dekalb High School, Towers High School, and McNair High School.

Indian Creek is a train station in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, the eastern terminus of the Blue Line of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. It has an island platform with one track on each side of the platform. This station opened in June 1993. As the eastern terminus for the Blue Line, it primarily serves commuters who take advantage of the free daily parking and ride into the city of Atlanta. Located just outside "The Perimeter" Interstate 285, it mainly serves the City of Lithonia, The newly incorporated City of Stonecrest, as well as communities in: The City of Stone Mountain, and unincorporated communities in: Redan, Stone Mountain and Decatur. Bus service is provided at this station to: The City of Lithonia, The Mall at Stonecrest, Goldsmith Park & Ride, East Dekalb Health Center, Emory-Hillandale Hospital, East Lake Golf Course, Georgia State University, The Beltline and The City of Stone Mountain.

In 2021, non-profit American Rivers named DeKalb's South River the 4th most endangered river in the United States, citing "the egregious threat that ongoing sewage pollution poses to clean water and public health."In recent years, some communities in North DeKalb have incorporated, following a trend in other suburban areas around Metro Atlanta. Dunwoody and Brookhaven are now the largest cities entirely contained within the county. DeKalb is the second most Democratic-leaning county in Georgia, only behind Clayton County. 83 percent of the votes cast in the 2020 presidential election were for Joe Biden.

This station serves unincorporated communities such as Stone Mountain, Tucker, and Lithonia, as well as the cities of Decatur, Stonecrest and Clarkston. Bus service at this station to: Dekalb County Sheriffs Headquarters and Jail, Georgia Piedmont Technical College , Georgia State University Clarkston, Georgia Department of Labor, Goldsmith Park & Ride, North Dekalb Mall, Northlake Mall, Toco Hills Shopping Plaza, The Mountain Industrial Business District, GRTA Panola Park & Ride, Clarkston, The Mall at Stonecrest and The City of Stone Mountain . Transfers to the Emory Cliff Shuttle's Oxford route are also available. Bus Rapid Transit is provided at this station to points along Memorial Drive: 221- Memorial Drive Limited.

Avondale Mall, originally known as Columbia Mall, opened in 1964 as an enclosed mall in the state of Georgia, United States. The mall's original name came from its location at the intersection of Columbia & Memorial Drives near Avondale Estates. It was demolished in 2007.

Avondale High School is a former high school located in unincorporated Dekalb County, Georgia, United States; a part of the DeKalb County School District, it was adjacent to, but not inside, the City of Avondale Estates. It closed in May 2011. Its former campus is now used exclusively by the DeKalb School of the Arts, a magnet school. Its feeder schools were Avondale Middle, Avondale Elementary, Forest Hills Elementary, Knollwood Elementary, Midway Elementary, and Robert Shaw Elementary.

Avondale Estates is a city in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,960 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and is near Decatur.

Midway Woods is a neighborhood adjacent to Decatur, Georgia. The neighborhood is comprised over 700 homes, the majority of which are located in the 30030 zip-code, but are not within the current borders of the City of Decatur.

Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC) is a technical college based in Clarkston, Georgia. It is part of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and provides education for a three-county service area, mostly in the metro Atlanta area. The school's service area includes Dekalb, Rockdale, and Newton counties. GPTC is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates of credit. Many of the school's individual technical programs are also accredited by their respective accreditation organizations. The College also offers free Adult Education courses for GED and HiSet test preparation and English as Second Language programming. Its Economic Development and Continuing Education division provides customized business and industry training to strengthen the workforce pipeline in Metro Atlanta.
