Spion Kop Quarry

West Dean Rural District was a rural district in Gloucestershire, England, from 1894 to 1974. It comprised a number of civil parishes, including, confusingly, one called West Dean, and gained further territory in 1935.It was formed from the part of the Monmouth rural sanitary district that was in Gloucestershire (the rest, in Monmouthshire, becoming part of Monmouth Rural District). It consisted of the following civil parishes, listed with their population in 1961: English Bicknor: 457 Coleford (1935–1974): 3,546 Lydbrook (1935–1974): 2,465 Newland: 963 Staunton: 206 West Dean: 9,939Coleford parish, gained in 1935, was previously an urban district. The parish of Lydbrook was a new creation; it had previously formed part of the East Dean civil parish and was transferred from the East Dean and United Parishes Rural District. The district was abolished in 1974 when its former area became part of the Forest of Dean district, under the Local Government Act 1972.

Cannop Ponds (grid reference SO608106) are two large ponds, just north of Parkend in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England. The ponds, and surrounding area, are a popular tourist destination.An area of reeds above the top pond, known as 'Cannop Bridge Marsh', is a nature reserve managed (under agreement since 1983) by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. The site (Cannop Bridge Marsh and Cannop Ponds & Woods) are listed in the 'Forest of Dean Local Plan Review' as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS).

Wimberry Quarries (grid reference SO594121) is a 2-hectare (4.9-acre) nature reserve in Gloucestershire in the Forest of Dean.The site is held under agreement with the Forestry Commission. The site is listed in the 'Forest of Dean Local Plan Review' as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS).

Gorsty Knoll is a small hamlet, located in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England. The internationally important remains of Darkhill Ironworks and the Titanic Steelworks, are located on the edge of the hamlet. Gorsty Knoll is also famed for its glow worms.

Forest of Dean Cycle Centre is a small woodland cycling centre, comprising mountain bike trails, a visitor centre, car parks and uplift service. It is located on the former site of Cannop Colliery in the Cannop Valley, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. The nearest village is Parkend, 3 miles (5 km) away.In 2012, work was completed on a £100,000 redevelopment of the centre, culminating in the opening of a new cycle bridge.

Darkhill Ironworks, and the neighbouring Titanic Steelworks, are internationally important industrial remains associated with the development of the iron and steel industries in the 19th century. Both are scheduled monuments. They are located on the edge of a small hamlet called Gorsty Knoll, just to the west of Parkend, in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England. Historically, Darkhill was sometimes written Dark Hill.

Nagshead SSSI is a 297 acres (120 ha) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest located within RSPB Nagshead, near Parkend, in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. It was notified in 1972 and is listed in the 'Forest of Dean Local Plan Review' as a Key Wildlife Site.The SSSI consists of two units of assessment by Natural England and occupies a relatively small area on the eastern side of the much larger 1,250 acres (510 ha) nature reserve, all of which is jointly managed by the RSPB and Forestry England.

Milkwall railway station is a disused station on the former Severn and Wye Railway. It served the village of Milkwall, Gloucestershire, England. The station opened in 1875 and was closed only in 1929 due to lack of passenger use. The line remained in use for goods traffic until the line was closed from Parkend to Coleford. Today the site of the station is now occupied by an engineering company and the trackbed is now a cycle track from Coleford to Parkend.

Speech House Road railway station is a disused railway station opened by the former Severn and Wye Railway in 1875, it remained open for 88 years until the line, north of Parkend, closed to freight in 1963. Passenger trains on the Severn and Wye Railway, north of Lydney, were withdrawn from 1929.

Mile End is a small village in the English county of Gloucestershire. It belongs to the civil parish of Coleford, which is also its post town. Mile End is 1 mile (1.6 km) northeast of Coleford. The village lies at the western edge of the Forest of Dean. The village merges with the village of Broadwell to the south.
