Southridge Mall (Iowa)

The Fort Des Moines Provisional Army Officer Training School was a military base and training facility on the south side of Des Moines, Iowa. Established in 1901, the base is notable as the place where African Americans were trained to be officers for the U.S. Army during World War I, and where women first began training for US Army service in 1942 as part of the Women's Army Corps. Surviving older portions of the base were declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974 in recognition of this history. The fort property was turned over to the city in the 1950s, and has since been put a number of public and private uses.

The Lilac Arboretum and Children's Forest, sometimes also known as the Ewing Lilac Arboretum, is located in Ewing Park at 5300 Indianola Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. The arboretum contains more than 1,400 lilac bushes representing 120 varieties.

Abraham Lincoln High School, usually referred to simply as Lincoln High School or Lincoln, is a public secondary school located on Des Moines Southside Des Moines, Iowa, United States. It is one of five secondary schools under the district of the Des Moines Independent Community School District, The Largest high school in the Des Moines public school district and the state of Iowa. With a population of 2,409+ students operating out of two buildings on the Des Moines Southside was named after the 16th United States president Abraham Lincoln. The school sports team is named after one of President Lincoln's nicknames, the "Rail Splitter" (the "Lincoln Railsplitters" or "Rails"). Their mascot is typically a senior at the school or a recent alumni dressed up as Abraham Lincoln. The school is known as the Pride of the South Side.

The Principal Charity Classic is an annual PGA Tour Champions golf tournament in Des Moines, Iowa. It has been held at the William Langford-designed Wakonda Club since 2013. Founded in 2001 as the Allianz Championship, that name has been used by another tournament in Florida since 2007. The Principal Charity Classic, which raises money for Iowa children's charities, donated a record $6.7 million in 2020. This brought the event's charitable giving total to more than $30 million since 2007. In September 2017, Principal announced the renewal of its title sponsorship through 2023. The event will remain at Wakonda Club.

St. Anthony's Catholic Church is a Catholic parish church in the Diocese of Des Moines located on the south side of Des Moines, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.

The Ralph Rollins House, also known as the Bohen Estate, is a historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. This rambling mansion in the English medieval eclectic style was designed in 1925 by the Des Moines architectural firm of Boyd & Moore. It was completed the following year. The facades are a picturesque accumulation of gables, window bays, over hangs and minor projections. The roofscape is significant in defining the character of the house. Its main ridge runs the length of the structure, and it features short cross gables. The walls are a combination of brick and stucco half-timber in almost equal proportions. Together with Salisbury House, it is unique in Des Moines, and probably the state, for literally borrowing from England's domestic medieval architecture. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Southwest Fifth St. Bridge is an historic structure located in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, United States. Built in 1898 after a controversy surrounding the bidding process, it is one of the last Pratt through truss bridges left in an urban setting in Iowa. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998 as a part of the Highway Bridges of Iowa MPS.

The Raccoon River is a 30.8-mile-long (49.6 km) tributary of the Des Moines River in central Iowa in the United States. As measured using the longest of its three forks, its length increases to 226 miles (364 km). Via the Des Moines River, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River. The river runs through an intensely cultivated area of croplands and livestock farming, receiving Tile drainage from slow-draining rich natural bottomland. The Des Moines metropolitan area has been obtaining its drinking water from the Raccoon River just before it empties into the Des Moines River through water utilities since the 19th century. During the Great Flood of 1993, the Raccoon River flooded the water treatment facility of Des Moines, shutting off the city's supply of drinking water.

AIB College of Business was an accredited, independent, nonprofit, baccalaureate college of business located in Des Moines, Iowa, in the United States. The college closed on June 30, 2016, after 95 years and gifted its property to the Board of Regents, State of Iowa. The campus was operated by the University of Iowa from 2016 to 2018 when the University of Iowa announced plans to close down and sell the 17-acre campus. The University of Iowa sold the campus property in August 2019, for $7.5 million. Proceeds from the land and building sale created the AIB College of Business Scholarship Fund, which provides renewable $1,000 scholarship awards to qualified UI students. In the fall of 2020, 40 students received scholarships. All were residents of Iowa and majoring in business-related programs.

Principal Park, formerly Sec Taylor Stadium, is a minor league baseball stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. It is the home field of the International League's Iowa Cubs.
