The Ralph Rollins House, also known as the Bohen Estate, is a historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. This rambling mansion in the English medieval eclectic style was designed in 1925 by the Des Moines architectural firm of Boyd & Moore. It was completed the following year. The facades are a picturesque accumulation of gables, window bays, over hangs and minor projections. The roofscape is significant in defining the character of the house. Its main ridge runs the length of the structure, and it features short cross gables. The walls are a combination of brick and stucco half-timber in almost equal proportions. Together with Salisbury House, it is unique in Des Moines, and probably the state, for literally borrowing from England's domestic medieval architecture. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

AIB College of Business was an accredited, independent, nonprofit, baccalaureate college of business located in Des Moines, Iowa, in the United States. The college closed on June 30, 2016, after 95 years and gifted its property to the Board of Regents, State of Iowa. The campus was operated by the University of Iowa from 2016 to 2018 when the University of Iowa announced plans to close down and sell the 17-acre campus. The University of Iowa sold the campus property in August 2019, for $7.5 million. Proceeds from the land and building sale created the AIB College of Business Scholarship Fund, which provides renewable $1,000 scholarship awards to qualified UI students. In the fall of 2020, 40 students received scholarships. All were residents of Iowa and majoring in business-related programs.

Abraham Lincoln High School, usually referred to simply as Lincoln High School or Lincoln, is a public secondary school located on Des Moines Southside Des Moines, Iowa, United States. It is one of five secondary schools under the district of the Des Moines Independent Community School District, The Largest high school in the Des Moines public school district and the state of Iowa. With a population of 2,409+ students operating out of two buildings on the Des Moines Southside was named after the 16th United States president Abraham Lincoln. The school sports team is named after one of President Lincoln's nicknames, the "Rail Splitter" (the "Lincoln Railsplitters" or "Rails"). Their mascot is typically a senior at the school or a recent alumni dressed up as Abraham Lincoln. The school is known as the Pride of the South Side.

Gray's Lake Park is a park containing Gray's Lake in Des Moines, Iowa and covers 166.6 acres. Located just southwest of downtown at 2101 Fleur Dr, Des Moines, IA. With over 1 million people visiting the park each year, it is the city's most known and most visited recreation area. The park has a trail encompassing the lake that is 1.9 miles long and a pedestrian bridge over part of the lake. The park is linked with the system of trails that travel throughout the city and nearby Water Works Park.The lake spans 96.00 acres and is 16.4 ft at its deepest point. Gray's Lakes’ popular fish are Black Crappie, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Common Carp, Freshwater Drum, Largemouth Bass, River Carpsucker, White Crappie, Wiper, and Yellow Bass.The Kruidenier Trail pedestrian bridge that crosses the lake was designed by Cal Lewis. The bridge is 1,400 feet long, 16 feet wide and goes over the lake connecting two parts of the path around the lake. Lights on both sides of the bridge illuminate the path of the bridge at night with many colors.The park contains a sandy beach on the west side of the lake, a swing set, a boat rental stand, and two entrances to the park with their respective parking lots and restrooms.

Des Moines International Airport (IATA: DSM, ICAO: KDSM, FAA LID: DSM) is a commercial service airport 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Des Moines, the capital of Iowa. The airport's 2,600 acre campus includes two runways, 46 buildings, 7 parking facilities, and the terminal. Six commercial airlines offer service from DSM (American, Allegiant, Delta, Frontier, Southwest and United). The airport is managed by the Des Moines Airport Authority. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021 called it a primary commercial service airport. In 2016 a record 2.48 million passengers used the airport, up 5 percent from 2015. In 2019, DSM served 2.92 million passengers, a record for the airport. The airport hosts the 132nd Wing of the Iowa Air National Guard.

The Lost Planet, in Des Moines, Iowa was the former dumping site for lime filtered out of the water supply by the Des Moines Water Works. It is located in the middle of Waterworks Park in central Des Moines. During dry stints, the surface of the site would become cracked and take on an other-worldly look, hence the name. It is primarily a location where neighbors walk their dogs, students from Des Moines high schools visit, and birders watch shorebirds and ducks.

St. Anthony's Catholic Church is a Catholic parish church in the Diocese of Des Moines located on the south side of Des Moines, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.

The Hubbell Center is the museum, library, and archive of the Hubbell family in North America.

The Jay Norwood and Genevieve Pendleton Darling House is an historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. The residence was the home of cartoonist Ding Darling, who worked for The Des Moines Register and whose cartoons were syndicated in over 100 newspapers across the country. In the early 1930s, he became involved in the conservation movement, especially wildlife conservation. His advocacy was reflected in his cartoons. Part of his conservation legacy in Iowa is the Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit program that he initiated at Iowa State College and the expansion of the research facilities at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory.The house sits behind Terrace Hill, the residence of Iowa's Governors. The Darlings did not build the house, but they did make some changes when they owned it. The original house and the first major addition was the work of two prominent Des Moines architectural firms, Hailett and Rawson and Proudfoot, Rawson & Souers. Darling had architect John W. Brooks design the east wing and main entrance. He also chose the house's dark brown color. The changes Darling made to the house mixed elegance with earthiness and allowed it to blend in with its natural surroundings. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992 as a part of the Conservation Movement in Iowa MPS.

The F. W. Fitch Company Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. At the time of its nomination the district consisted of five resources, including three contributing buildings, one contributing structure, and one non-contributing building. The industrial buildings were built piecemeal between 1917 and 1944 on the west side of the central business district. The main building (1917) and its addition (1929) are located on the north side of Walnut Street, and the soap plant (1929 & 1942) and the soap plant annex (1944) are located on the south sides of Walnut Street. The contributing structure is a tunnel under Walnut that was built either in 1929 or 1942. The F. W. Fitch Company, which manufactured personal care products, occupied the buildings between 1917 and 1949. They dominated much of the shampoo industry from the 1920s through the mid-1940s. They and the Carl Weeks' Armand Co., a national cosmetics and perfume manufacturer, gave the city a reputation as a leader in the United States for the personal care products industry. The country's changing grooming styles and the end of military contracts after World War II led to the company's demise. They sold all of their assets to Grove Laboratories of St. Louis in 1949. The Fitch family, however, continued to hold the title to the main building into the 1970s when Building Maintenance Services (BMS) bought it. The building housed artists and other design professionals. It was almost torn down in the early 21st century, but it was spared. Various enterprises have been housed in the soap plant and its annex.
