The building was originally a private country house. After it closed as a hospital in 2004, proposals were brought forward for redevelopment of the site.

Standish is a small village and civil parish in the Stroud local government district in Gloucestershire, England. The village is 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) north-west of Stroud, on the B4008 road to Quedgeley. The parish, which in the 2001 census had a population of 285, also contains the hamlet of Stroud Green, situated south-east of Standish village. The population had reduced to 227 at the 2011 census.Originally part of the estate of the Barons Sherborne of Gloucestershire, they developed Standish Court as part of their holdings. Abandoned in the 16th century, they then developed Standish House as a country retreat. Having sold Standish Wood to the National Trust, they sold Standish House to Gloucestershire County Council post-World War I, on which they developed Standish Hospital, which was immediately passed to the British Red Cross for treatment of soldiers. In the 1920s it became a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients, and a US Army medical facility during World War II. Developed by the National Health Service (NHS) as a specialist hospital, it closed in 2004. The parish church is the Grade I listed Church of St Nicholas, built in the 14th century and restored in the 1860s by J P St Aubyn.Between Standish and Stroud Green is Standish Junction, a railway junction where the Golden Valley Line joins the Bristol to Birmingham Cross Country Route.

Maidenhill School is a coeducational foundation secondary school located in Stonehouse in the English county of Gloucestershire.It is a smaller than average secondary school with a rural catchment area. The school has 520 students (as from Jan 2017). Maidenhill School have a capacity of 785 students. The catchment area includes Eastington, Frocester, Leonard Stanley, Standish and Stonehouse, as well as parts of Cainscross, King's Stanley, Hardwicke and Randwick. As a foundation school, Maidenhill is administered by Gloucestershire County Council.

Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility, also known as the Javelin Park Incinerator is a residual waste incinerator and energy-from-waste power station which produces 14.5MW of energy for the National Grid by burning up to 190,000 tonnes of residual waste each year. The site is located adjacent to the M5 motorway, near junction 12 and to the south of Gloucester.

Hunts Grove is a new build suburb, situated near the villages of Hardwicke and Haresfield, on the southern edge of the city of Gloucester. Building began in 2010 and the estate is as yet unfinished. The development was named Hunts Grove after the small woodland, Hunts Grove, on the site.

Although the spelling "Cashes Green" is usual, and locally regarded as "correct", the alternative Cashe's Green also occurs, and can be seen on old ordnance survey maps, and 1970s road signs for example.
