Freeling, South Australia

Light Regional Council is a local government area north of Adelaide in South Australia. It is based in the town of Kapunda, and includes the towns of Freeling, Greenock, Hansborough, Hewett, Roseworthy and Wasleys. The council is named for the River Light, the south bank of which forms much of the council area's northwest border. The river is named after William Light, the first Surveyor-General of South Australia.

Fords is a locality in the Mid North region of South Australia, southwest of Kapunda, South Australia. It is crossed by the Thiele Highway, and the former Morgan railway line. The northern boundary of Fords is the Light River. Fords is named after an early landowner, John Ford.

Morn Hill is a locality in the Mid North region of South Australia. It straddles the Horrocks Highway midway between Gawler and Tarlee. Morn Hill is a rural locality with a handful of farms—at the 2016 census, there were six dwellings housing 17 people. The locality drew its name from the Morn Hill School which opened in 1891 but has long since closed. Morn Hill also had a Primitive Methodist church which had opened by 1870 and closed soon after 1900.In the Morn Hill area, the Horrocks Highway (formerly Main North Road) forms the boundary between the federal electoral divisions of Grey (on the west) and Barker (to the east).

The District Council of Light was a local government area in South Australia from 1867 to 1892.

Shea-Oak Log is a settlement in South Australia adjacent to the Sturt Highway. At the 2011 census, Shea-Oak Log had a population of 175. Major industries in the area are manufacturing/engineering, grain and pig farming.

Templers (postcode 5371) is a small town on the Horrocks Highway north of Gawler, South Australia. The town was named after William Templer who, with his wife Martha, was the licensee of the North Star hotel in the area from 1846 to 1878. The Templers Primary School opened in 1873, but has since closed.The Mount Bethel Wesleyan Jubilee chapel was built in 1863 (completed 1864) by a people who had been meeting regularly in homes and sheds for worship since the early 1850s. It was initially part of the Gawler circuit. From 1870 it was part of a circuit consisting of Templers, Wasleys, Freeling and Sheaoak Log, with Stockport added from 1880.

The Hundred of Nuriootpa is a cadastral unit of hundred in the County of Light, South Australia split between in the eastern Adelaide Plains and western Barossa Valley. Named in 1847 for an indigenous term officially thought to mean "bartering place" and traditionally used as neutral ground for trading between various indigenous tribes, it is bounded on the south and east by the North Para River. The town of Nuriootpa is at the north eastern corner of the hundred. Other towns within the hundred are Freeling, whose the southern and oldest parts straddle the north border of the hundred, and Greenock, also in the hundred's north. The localities of Nain, Kingsford, Shea-Oak Log, Daveyston, Seppeltsfield, Marananga, Stone Well and Gomersal as well as parts of Templers, Roseworthy, Concordia, Rosedale, Lyndoch, Rowland Flat and Tanunda are also within the hundred. The hundred borders on the greater Adelaide conurbation with the Gawler suburb of Hewett and parts of the suburbs of Gawler East and Gawler South also lying within the hundred at the south-western corner near the North Para's confluence with the South Para River.

Daveyston is a small town in the northern Barossa Valley region of South Australia. It is adjacent to the current Sturt Highway which previously ran through the middle of the town. The town is named after Benjamin Davey who had established a mill there before the town was established.There is a large stockfeed mill adjacent to the highway just west of the town, which is not the site of the original mill.

Kingsford is a locality in South Australia located about 46 kilometres (29 miles) north of the Adelaide city centre. The Sturt Highway crosses the locality which is bounded by the Thiele Highway on the northwest, Roseworthy and Gomersal Roads on the north and the North Para River on the south.Kingsford's boundaries were created in May 1995 for the ”long established name” which is derived from the “Kingsford homestead.” The principal land use within the locality is agriculture.The Kingsford homestead survives and is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register; it is also notable as a location in the Australian television series, McLeod's Daughters. Kingsford is located within the federal Division of Barker, the state electoral district of Light and the local government area of the Light Regional Council.

Roseworthy is a small town in South Australia, about 10 km north of Gawler on the Horrocks Highway. At the 2016 census, Roseworthy had a population of 994.Roseworthy has a large grain storage facility consisting of both storage silos and bunkers for grain grown in the surrounding areas, and grain is now taken by road transport to Port Adelaide for export where it was once taken by rail. Roseworthy is the junction of the former Peterborough railway line and Morgan railway lines, both constructed as broad gauge railway lines (although the Peterborough line was originally narrow gauge from Terowie to Peterborough), and remained that gauge for their entire service. Both lines were originally built to support export from copper mines, respectively at Burra and Kapunda before being extended beyond those towns. The railways later served primarily to carry grain to port instead of copper, but have now been supplanted by road transport. The Roseworthy campus of the University of Adelaide is the location of Australia's newest Vet School. The School of Animal & Veterinary Sciences provides education and training of animal and veterinary scientists in a research environment. The School offers three academic programs: Animal Science, Veterinary Bioscience and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). Roseworthy is a popular stop for many truck drivers with the Roseworthy Roadhouse often bustling with resting travellers and transport drivers as they traverse along the Horrocks Highway.Roseworthy is in the Light Regional Council, the state electoral district of Schubert and the federal divisions of Barker and Grey.

Nain is a settlement west of Greenock in the northern Barossa Valley region of South Australia. It was first settled in the 1850s, mostly by German settlers moving from the Mount Barker area. The Nain "Zum Schmalen Wege" church operated from 1861 to 1893, and the present Nain church opened in 1856. Both have cemeteries.

The Barossa Valley wine region is one of Australia's oldest and most premier wine regions. Located in South Australia, the Barossa Valley is about 56 km (35 miles) northeast of the city of Adelaide. Unlike most of Australia whose wine industry was heavily influenced by the British, the wine industry of the Barossa Valley was founded by German settlers fleeing persecution from the Prussian province of Silesia (in what is now Poland). The warm continental climate of the region promoted the production of very ripe grapes that was the linchpin of the early Australian fortified wine industry. As the modern Australian wine industry shifted towards red table wines (particularly those made by the prestigious Cabernet Sauvignon) in the mid-20th century, the Barossa Valley fell out of favor due to its reputation for being largely a Syrah from producers whose grapes were destined for blending. During this period the name "Barossa Valley" rarely appeared on wine labels. In the 1980s, the emergence of several boutique families specializing in old vine Shiraz wines began to capture international attention for the distinctive style of Barossa Shiraz, a full bodied red wine with rich chocolate and spice notes. This led to a renaissance in the Barossa Valley which catapulted the region to the forefront of the Australian wine industry.Many of Australia's largest and most notable wineries are either headquartered or own extensive holdings in the Barossa Valley. These include such wineries as Penfolds, Peter Lehmann, Orlando Wines, Seppeltsfield, Wolf Blass and Yalumba. Many Shiraz vines in the Barossa Valley are several decades old, with some vineyards planted with old vines that are 100–150 years old including Turkey Flat in Tanunda that is home to the oldest commercially producing grape vines, originally planted in 1847. Other grape varieties grown in the Barossa Valley include Grenache, Mourvedre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Chardonnay and Semillon.In February 2011, South Australian Premier Mike Rann announced that special legislation would be introduced to protect the unique heritage of the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. Premier Rann said: "Barossa and McLaren Vale food and wine are key icons of South Australia. We must never allow the Barossa or McLaren Vale to become suburbs of Adelaide." The Character Preservation (Barossa Valley) Act 2012 was subsequently passed by the South Australian Parliament.
