Rorrington

Meadowtown is a hamlet in west Shropshire, England, in the civil parish of Worthen with Shelve. Neighbouring hamlets include Marton, Ox Wood, Crest Wood, and Rorrington. Meadowtown contains a Site of Special Scientific Interest according to the U.K. government. A long-disused quarry in the hamlet is "a well known fossil collecting locality and has yielded typical and distinctive trilobites including Oxygiocarella debuchi, Marrolithus craticulatus, Lloydolithus lloydii and Oxyginus cordensis novenarius. Species of the brachiopod genus Dalmanella and occasional sponge spicules also occur."Meadowtown is also home to "Mammoth", a cow made famous on the internet involving a UK milk-price dispute in 2017.

Middleton is a scattered settlement in Shropshire with a chapel (Holy Trinity) and a former schoolhouse. It was once much more populated but went into decline once mining ended in the area. It is situated in the civil parish of Chirbury with Brompton, in the west of the county. Middleton is a parish ward within that parish, returning 3 councillors. Historically it was a township of the hundred of Chirbury. The ecclesiastical parish is known as Middleton-in-Chirbury.To the north is the hamlet of Rorrington, to the south the small village of Priestweston, both also in the parish of Chirbury with Brompton.

Mitchell's Fold (sometimes called Medgel's Fold or Madges Pinfold) is a Bronze Age stone circle in southwest Shropshire, located near the small village of White Grit on dry heathland at the southwest end of Stapeley Hill in the civil parish of Chirbury with Brompton, at a height of 1083 ft (330m) o.d. The stone circle, a standing stone, and a cairn comprise a Scheduled Ancient Monument; the circle is in the guardianship of English Heritage.

Stapeley Hill is a sacred saddleback shaped hill in South-West Shropshire, near the village of Priestweston, not far from another landmark, Corndon Hill. The Hill is home to Mitchell's Fold [1] and along the path leading from the Fold which crosses Stapeley Common, home to the Cow Stone [2], or single standing Stone - Menhir and the Stapeley Hill Ring Cairn [3] [4]. There are two Bronze Age cairns at or near the summit, and such round cairns are a common feature of Welsh mountain summits. The hill rises to an elevation of 403 metres (1,322 ft) and lies in the civil parish of Chirbury with Brompton.

Wotherton is a hamlet in west Shropshire, close to the Welsh border. It is in the civil parish of Chirbury with Brompton. Its name, mentioned as a manor in Domesday means, roughly, "settlement at a woodland ford"; the road through the village crosses a small stream.The Wotherton Barytes Mine operated here until 1911.

Marton, also known as Marton-in-Chirbury, is a small village in Shropshire, England, 8 km (5.0 mi) southeast of Welshpool. There is another Marton in Shropshire, near Baschurch, at OS grid reference SJ443239, which also has a nearby Marton Pool. Marton forms part of the civil parish of Chirbury with Brompton, and Marton is a parish ward within that parish, returning 3 councillors.The B4386 road (which runs between Montgomery and Shrewsbury) passes through the village. The border with Powys is close by.There are two public houses in the Marton area: the Lowfield Inn (outside the village towards Shrewsbury) and the Sun Inn (within the village). Opposite the Sun Inn is a convenience store. There is an Anglican church dedicated to St Mark, and a nonconformist chapel built in 1829 as 'Independent' (later known as Congregationalist). By the chapel is the village hall. Marton Pool is a body of water near the village, which is the source of the Rea Brook. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The village's name derives from mere + ton. The lake is fed mainly by the Lowerfield Brook on the north side. The Rea Brook exits at the east through a sluice, which is in disrepair. At the southwest is a drainage ditch leading from a blocked culvert under a road; this point is about 2m higher than the lake; another ditch flows southwest from the same point; on maps, this gives the false impression of the lake flowing into a tributary of the Aylesford Brook. Notable clergyman Thomas Bray (1656-1730) was born in Marton in a half-timbered house called Bray's Tenement.

The River Onny is a river in Shropshire, England. It is a major tributary of the River Teme.

The Whetstones are, or were, a stone circle beneath Corndon Hill in the parish of Church Stoke, Montgomeryshire, Wales, near the border with Shropshire, England. They lie immediately to the west of the village of White Grit and close to Priestweston. The site is also a short distance from the better-known Hoarstones and Mitchell's Fold circles. The circle was largely destroyed in the 19th century, and only a few fragments now remain. An 1841 account described them as even then fragmentary, but comprising three main stones, then "leaning, owing to the soft and boggy nature of the soil. They stand equidistant and assume a circular position [...] The highest of these is four feet above the surface; one foot six inches in thickness, and three feet in width." In 1860, the antiquarian Robert William Eyton still referred to the Whetstones as a "remarkable monument", but they were later stated to have been dug up, and the stones incorporated into a boundary wall, in about 1870. Aubrey Burl notes that "nearly all of its stones were blown up in the 1860s [...] when the last stone was uprooted around 1870 charcoal and bones were seen".The remnants of the circle can still be observed from an adjacent field boundary, or from the northern summit of Corndon Hill. Large stones are also visible now forming a boundary next to a footpath, which were probably also once incorporated in the circle.

Priestweston (or Priest Weston) is a small village in the civil parish of Chirbury with Brompton, Shropshire, England, lying in the Welsh Marches. Its name is based on the Old English for "western settlement (tun)", with the affix priest in reference to the estate of the Prior of Chirbury at Weston Parva. It was mentioned in Domesday, and later became part of the possessions of the Botterell family. The village is located near to the English-Welsh border, at the foot of Corndon Hill. Due to a quirk of the border geography in the area of Corndon Hill, the nearest village in Wales, White Grit, lies to the east of Priestweston. Second World War Victoria Cross winner John Brunt was born there in 1922 and his family lived there before moving to near Whittington some six years later. An outdoor memorial plaque to his memory was put up in the village in May 2004.The village church at Middleton-in-Chirbury is located a mile from Priestweston. A megalithic stone circle known as Mitchell's Fold is located within Shropshire on nearby Stapeley Hill, and there are also remains of a second circle, known as the Whetstones, a short distance to the east over the Welsh border in Montgomeryshire. There is also a traditional pub, The Miner's Arms. National Cycle Route 44 passes through the village.

Corndon Hill (Welsh: Cornatyn) is a hill in Powys, Mid Wales, whose isolated summit rises to 1,683 ft above sea level. It is surrounded on three sides by the English county of Shropshire and forms a prominent landmark in the Wales-England border. Corndon's prominent western edge appears to form a separate hill and is known locally as Lan Fawr (Welsh: 'Big Hill'). It is frequented by walkers and ramblers from car parks nearby at Mitchell's Fold for example. There are spectacular panoramic views from the summit, and it is itself an important landmark for the surrounding countryside and towns like Montgomery. It is close to villages such as Church Stoke and Hyssington. The hill is geologically part of the Shropshire Hills range of hills lying mainly to the north, east and south of the summit. The immediate area to the west is the Vale of Montgomery and the River Severn. The Cambrian Mountains are visible beyond to the far west. The Stiperstones and Shelve lie to the immediate north, with Caer Caradoc and the Long Mynd to the east.

The Hoarstones, or Hoar Stone Circle, is a stone circle in the civil parish of Chirbury with Brompton in the English county of Shropshire. The Hoarstones are part of a tradition of stone circle construction that spread throughout much of Britain, Ireland, and Brittany during the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages, over a period between 3300 and 900 BCE. The purpose of such monuments is unknown. The Hoarstones are one of up to five stone circles known from this area, on the borders between Shropshire and Powys. Of these, only the Hoarstones and Mitchell's Fold survive. Shaped elliptically, the Hoarstones circle measures 23.3 by 21.1m in diameter. It contains between 38 and 40 small stones, identified as dolerites probably sourced locally. There is a central stone inside the circle, although whether this was part of its original prehistoric design is unclear. Several of the stones contain small holes, which according to 19th-century accounts were caused by miners drilling holes into them; gunpowder was then placed into these holes and lit to produce explosions. The existence of the circle was noted by the antiquarian Reverend C. H. Hartshorne in the 1830s. An excavation took place in 1924, led by Lily F. Chitty.

White Grit is a small, scattered village beneath Corndon Hill in Powys, Wales, directly on the border with (and partly in) Shropshire. The nearby village of Priest Weston, despite being in England, actually lies to the west of White Grit. To the east is the A488 road. The nearest town is Bishop's Castle. White Grit lies in the community of Church Stoke (the small parts in Shropshire are in the civil parishes of Chirbury with Brompton and Worthen with Shelve). Adjoining is a hamlet called The Marsh. There is a stone-built Methodist chapel in White Grit, no longer used as a place of worship, and a corrugated-iron chapel, both of which are marked on Ordnance Survey maps.
