Rusland, Cumbria

Crosslands is a hamlet in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, England. It is located just to the northeast of Rusland in the civil parish of Colton.

Rusland Hall is a country house in the English Lake District. The present building dates from about 1720. The Hall was owned by the Rawlinson family in the 17th and 18th centuries, and by the family of Beatrice Webb in the 19th century. For a time in the later 20th century it housed a museum of mechanical musical instruments, then becoming the home of Mike Dwan and his family.

Satterthwaite & Rusland School was a Church of England Primary school near Force Forge in the Rusland Valley. The school was established in 1840 for children aged 4 to 11, and closed in 2006 with just 9 pupils. The site has since been converted into affordable housing.The school was renowned for its rural setting with large grounds for children to play in, and for providing a wide range of extra-curricular activities including: football, hockey, rounders, athletics, swimming, roller-blading and cricket. The school also provided an unusually wide range of opportunities including: canoeing, climbing, gorge walking, fell walking, orienteering and problem solving activities.

Finsthwaite Heights is an upland area in the English Lake District, above Finsthwaite, Cumbria. It is the subject of a chapter of Wainwright's book The Outlying Fells of Lakeland. It reaches about 600 feet (180 m). Wainwright's walk starts from Newby Bridge, climbs through woodland passing a tower which has a 1799 inscription commemorating the Royal Navy, passes through the village, and climbs to the man-made tarns of Low Dam and High Dam. These were made to provide power for Stott Park Bobbin Mill. Wainwright says of his route: "Everywhere the surroundings are delightful. But this is not fellwalking."

The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway (L&HR) is a 3.2-mile-long (5.1 km) heritage railway in Cumbria, England.

Satterthwaite is a small village (and civil parish) with around 50 dwellings situated in Grizedale, a valley in the Lake District, England, about four miles south of Hawkshead. It has a church, All Saints', and a Parish Room. The civil parish of Satterthwaite has its own community website. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 257, decreasing at the 2011 census to 215. The population peaked in 1881 at 450 and has since gradually declined to the current day. In the 10 years to 1891 the population fell to 410 falling further to 325 in 1931. The population decline is probably due to rural urban migration.In the 1870s Satterthwaite was described as "a village and a township-chapelry in Hawkshead parish, Lancashire."

Bouth is a village in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, England. Historically, it was part of the county of Lancashire. It is within the Lake District National Park. The village's pub, the White Hart, was shown in the short-lived 1990 ITV sitcom Not with a Bang.

The Lakeland Motor Museum is a museum now located at Backbarrow, Cumbria, England which houses a collection of classic cars, motorcycles, bicycles, pedal cars and motoring related items and memorabilia and an exhibition dedicated to the land and water speed record activities of Sir Malcolm Campbell and his son Donald Campbell.

Finsthwaite is a small village in the South Lakeland district, in the county of Cumbria, England. It is located near the Furness Fells and Windermere. Finsthwaite has a place of worship, St Peter's Church, and a Bobbin Mill called Stott Park Bobbin Mill, now a working museum. Finsthwaite is in the civil parish of Colton.

Backbarrow is a village in the Lake District National Park in England. It lies on the River Leven about 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Ulverston in Furness in the county of Cumbria.

Oxen Park is a hamlet in the English county of Cumbria. Oxen Park lies on the watershed between Rusland and Colton Beck valleys in South Lakeland, and is part of the greater Lake District region. The nearest town is Ulverston 7 miles (11 km) to its south. There are two former smithies (blacksmiths) here, dating from the late 17th/ early 18th century, both of which are Grade II listed buildings. The Manor House public house in Oxen Park was formerly Bank House, which was purchased by Hartleys brewery in 1933, later a Robinson's pub, and now a free house. The Reading Room (Village Hall) here was built in 1902, and underwent a major restoration in 2018/19.

St Peter's Church is in the village of Finsthwaite, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Windermere, the archdeaconry of Westmorland and Furness, and the diocese of Carlisle. Formerly part of the Leven Valley benefice, together with St Anne Haverthwaite and St Mary Staveley-in-Cartmel, it is now part of the Cartmel Peninsula Team Ministry. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. St Peter's was designed by the Lancaster partnership of Paley and Austin. They were the winners of a competition to design "mountain chapels" organised by the Carlisle Church Extension Society in 1873. The authors of the Buildings of England series describe the church as "a brilliant essay", and write that "one would have to search far and search long in England to find village churches to vie with" this and two other Austin and Paley churches, Torver and Dolphinholme. The church stands to the southeast of the village.
