Cornelian Bay, North Yorkshire

Knipe Point (or Osgodby Point) is a rocky headland on the North Sea coast, between Cornelian Bay and Cayton Bay in North Yorkshire, England. From this point, and running south, is the steeply sloping clay-till cliff on top of which stood the NALGO holiday camp between 1933 and 1974; this is where Knipe Point Drive was later built. The Cayton Cliff is subject to continuing surface landslips, potentially major at times, such as the one of 2008, known as the Knipe Point Landslide, which received national media attention due to the loss of three homes.

Osgodby is a village and civil parish in the district and county of North Yorkshire, England. Until 2023, it was in the borough of Scarborough. Approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Scarborough off the coastal road, Osgodby was a medieval village with a manor house mentioned in the Domesday Book as Asgozbi ('Asgaut's farm or estate'). It appears to have grown until the 13th or 14th century and then declined to a sparsely populated farming area by the 19th century. Housing was developed east of the medieval site in the 1930s and again from the 1960s, with buildings of farms on the site of the manor house being converted into a pub and a restaurant. The oldest surviving building is Stuart House, dated 1615. Remnants of a 13th-century chantry chapel of St Leonard have been incorporated into a barn.According to the 2011 UK census, Osgodby parish had a population of 1,248, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 1,186.

The Holbeck Hall Hotel was a clifftop hotel in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England, owned by the Turner family. It was built in 1879 by George Alderson Smith as a private residence, and was later converted to a hotel.On 4 June 1993, 55 metres (180 ft) of the 70 metres (230 ft) hotel garden had disappeared from view, the beginning of a landslide which gradually became more severe, and finally on 5 June 1993, after a day of heavy rain, parts of the building collapsed, making news around the world. The hotel's chimney stack collapsed live on television just as Yorkshire TV's Calendar regional news programme went on air covering the building's precarious condition. Richard Whiteley was presenting the item at the time of the collapse. The remainder of the building was demolished for safety reasons. One of the likely contributing causes of the landslide was the substantial rain in the two months before it occurred. The mud flow from the landslide protruded 135 metres (443 ft) beyond the high-water mark.Landslides are a common problem in Scarborough and along the coast from Filey to Whitby.In 1997, the hotel's collapse became the subject of a significant court case in English civil law (Holbeck Hall Hotel Ltd v Scarborough BC) when the owners of the hotel attempted to sue Scarborough Borough Council for damages, alleging that as owners of the shoreline they had not taken any practical measures at all to prevent the landslip – from soft, to hard engineering, nothing was done. The claim was rejected on the grounds that the Council was not liable for the causes of the slip because it was not reasonably foreseeable. Reasonable foreseeability is a requirement for liability in negligence and nuisance in English and Welsh tort law.

St John the Baptist's Church is the parish church of Cayton, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The church was constructed in the 12th century, from which period the chancel, north aisle, and part of the nave date. In the 15th century, the nave was extended, and a tower and north chapel were added. There was at one time a vault, which has since been filled in. In 1947, a clock was installed on the tower, celebrating that it was believed to be one of the doubly Thankful Villages. The church was Grade I listed in 1967. The church is built of sandstone with a Welsh slate roof, and consists of a nave, a north aisle, a south porch, a chancel with a north chapel and vestry, and a west tower. The tower has three stages, diagonal buttresses, two-light flat-topped bell openings, and an embattled parapet with corner pinnacles. The gabled porch contains a round-arched Norman doorway that has two orders of shafts with scalloped capitals, and the arch with chevron decoration. Inside the church is a slightly pointed 12th-century arcade, and a 12th-century font on a 19th-century base. The wooden door and doorframe to the tower date from 1678. There is a slab on the chancel floor with a brass inscription dating from 1452, and there are also some 18th-century monuments. There is an 18th-century charity board, and the oak communion table is 17th century.

Cayton is a village and civil parish in the Scarborough borough of North Yorkshire, England, 4 miles (6 km) south of Scarborough.

Killerby Old Hall is a historic building in Cayton, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The building was constructed in the 17th century. It was remodelled in the mid 18th century, and in the 19th century, it was heightened, and the roof was replaced. During this period, a new Killerby Hall was built nearby, for James Cooper, with the older building becoming a farmhouse. It was Grade II listed in 1967. Its grounds now house a caravan park, and plans were announced in 2024 to convert one of its outbuildings into a wedding venue. The house is built of sandstone, with quoins, a moulded string course, and a hipped slate roof. It has two storeys, five bays, and it incorporates an earlier staircase tower on the left. The central doorway is approached by stone steps and has a divided fanlight, and the windows on the front are sashes; all these openings have splayed architraves. In the returns are mullioned and transomed windows, and the staircase tower has a blocked Tudor arched doorway and a mullioned window above. Inside, there is a 17th-century staircase, moved from elsewhere, reused 17th century panelling in one first floor room, and a massive 18th century fireplace with a bread oven in the former kitchen.

Scarborough College is a private coeducational day and boarding school aged 3–18 years in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. It was founded in 1898 and opened in 1901. The school has been an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since June 2006, offering it at sixth form in place of A-levels.

George Pindar School is a coeducational secondary school in Eastfield, Scarborough in North Yorkshire, England. It was previously named George Pindar Community Sports College (GPCSC), but during 2012 the school reverted to its original name.

Eastfield is a town and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. It was granted town status in January 2016. It is directly south of Scarborough and is sometimes described as one of its suburbs.According to the 2011 UK census, Eastfield parish had a population of 5,610, a reduction on the 2001 UK census figure of 5,863. The town council is Eastfield Town Council. The population for Eastfield according to the 2021 UK census was returned as 7,178. The area has a mid-size Industrial Park (Olympian Trading Park), the rapidly expanding Scarborough Business Park, and Plaxton Park is on the outskirts of Eastfield. The area is the base for a number of large businesses, for example Plaxton, Raflatac, Unison, Cooplands and Dale Power Solutions. The largest factory in the vicinity is McCain Foods. Boyes, a discount department store chain which has over 70 stores across the north has its head office and warehouse facilities here.Eastfield was home to local commercial radio station Yorkshire Coast Radio which broadcast to Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington and Whitby on FM and DAB, until its closure.George Pindar School is the local secondary school for Eastfield and the surrounding vicinity. In April 2021, Historic England announced the discovery of an important Roman residential site during a survey for a new housing estate, suggesting it to be either a religious sanctuary, a luxury villa or combination of both. It is a type of building layout not known of elsewhere in Britain. Within hours of the announcement of the discovery, people trespassed onto the site and caused damage to the building. The discovery of the site caused a reduction of planned homes, from approximately 150 to 94.

Cayton railway station was a minor railway station serving the village of Cayton on the Yorkshire Coast Line from Scarborough to Hull and was opened on 5 October 1846 by the York and North Midland Railway. It closed on 5 May 1952. Like its neighbour at Gristhorpe, the former station house here remains standing as a private dwelling. The former signal box here has though been demolished, as the level crossing it worked has been converted to automatic barrier operation. One platform has also survives, though it is heavily overgrown and difficult to see.

Scarborough Spa is a Grade II* listed building in South Bay, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. It is a venue for conferences, exhibitions, entertainment, live music and events on the Yorkshire Coast. Originally built around the source of Scarborough's spa waters, it is owned and managed by Scarborough Borough Council.The Spa has a Grand Hall, which seats 1,500 and hosts live entertainment including the Scarborough Spa Orchestra and the annual Scarborough Jazz Festival. The Spa Theatre, a 557-seat Victorian theatre, is home to summer season shows and Christmas pantomimes. The Spa Ocean Room is used for dances, conferences and other events, including the Scarborough Jazz Festival and Coastival. The Victorian Cliff Tramway is a funicular railway that links the Spa complex with South Cliff, 200 ft above the South Bay.

The Great Siege of Scarborough Castle was a major conflict for control of one of England's most important stone fortresses during the First English Civil War fought between the Parliamentarians and the Royalists loyal to King Charles I. In February 1645, Parliamentarians laid siege to Scarborough Castle. For five months, they bombarded it, destroying most of the keep, and engaged in bloody fighting before the defenders finally surrendered. This was a significant though not permanent victory. There was a second, far less bloody and destructive, siege later in 1648 when the new garrison switched sides. The castle finally came under Parliamentarian control in 1649, and remained so until the Restoration (1660). (The castle actually changed hands seven times between 1642 and 1648.)
