Felley

Felley Priory is a 16th century house with gardens located in the village of Felley, Nottinghamshire, UK. It is situated on the grounds of a former priory established by Augustinians in 1156 and dissolved in 1536. The gardens were started in 1974 by Maria Chaworth-Musters and opened to the public through the National Garden Scheme just two years later. Since Maria's passing in 2010, the gardens have been managed by her granddaughter and expert gardener, Michelle Upchurch. In 2021, the gardens were one of the four finalists in the public gardens category in NGS's The Nation's Favourite Gardens competition.

Underwood is a hilltop village within the civil parish of Selston in the English ceremonial county of Nottinghamshire. The village is a ward of Ashfield with a population of 2,953 taken at the 2011 Census. It stands in a former coal mining area in the Hidden Valleys and is in the local government district of Ashfield. The village offers views across the Erewash Valley towards the Southern Pennines. It is situated near to junction 27 of the M1 and is bordered by Bagthorpe and Selston, and Brinsley and Moorgreen to the south. The gardens of Felley Priory are accessible from the village. It is part of Nottinghamshire's 'Hidden Valleys' area. Bagthorpe Primary School and Underwood Church of England Primary School have good reputations, and as a consequence the area is a desirable one for families. This has increased house prices in Underwood and Bagthorpe, especially in Lower Bagthorpe and the area along Main Road, Underwood. The village has a number of pubs including The Hole in the Wall, The Red Lion, The Shepherds Rest, Dixies Arms and The Dog & Quayle (previously The Sandhills). Underwood Miners Welfare Cricket Club was founded in 1894 and is on Church Lane in Underwood. The club has three senior teams, two playing on Saturday in divisions D and L of the South Notts Cricket League and one on a Sunday in Section 1 of the Mansfield and District Cricket League.

With a current population of around 3.500, from the 2011 census being included in the civil parish of Annesley.

Ashfield () is a local government district in Nottinghamshire, England. The population of Ashfield was 127,200 in 2018. The district is mostly urban and forms part of both the Nottingham and Mansfield Urban Areas. There are three towns in the district; Sutton-in-Ashfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Hucknall. The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by the merger of urban districts of Hucknall, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield and parts of Basford Rural District, namely the parishes of Annesley, Felley and Selston. The largest settlement is Sutton-in-Ashfield. Bagthorpe is a village in Nottinghamshire, England. It is in the civil parish of Selston.

Selston is a large village and civil parish approximately 12 miles (19.3 km) NNW of Nottingham in the Ashfield district, Nottinghamshire, England. At the time of the 2001 census Selston Parish (which includes the settlements of Underwood, Jacksdale, Westwood, Bagthorpe, New Selston and Selston proper) had a population of 12,208 increasing to 12,596 at the 2011 Census.Selston is bounded by Underwood to the South, Annesley to the East, and the Derbyshire border to the West. St Helen's Church dates back to 1150 AD although the exterior of the church was altered by restoration and enlargement in 1899. An older Saxon church is thought to have occupied the site, and there is a monolith in the church yard, which may have been of ceremonial importance for pre-Christian pagans. The village is part of Nottinghamshire's Hidden Valleys area. Ordnance Survey Maps: Explorer 269 (Chesterfield and Alfreton) and Landranger 120 (Sherwood Forest). Selston Grid Reference 45781,52881. The local five-a-side football pitch, on the site of the Leisure Centre, was opened by Nottingham Forest legends, Stuart Pearce and Colin Cooper. Since the year 2000 new housing estates have been built in Selston as more families requested to live in the area. The last trace of the Holland Family, responsible for the building of Matthew Holland School in Selston, was removed when David Holland, great grandson of Matthew, sold his greengrocer's shop. It was demolished in 2005. In 2006 the Matthew Holland School, having become a specialist school with Visual Arts status, changed its name to the Selston Arts and Community College, and then again a few years later to Selston High School, though remaining a comprehensive school. One notable resident of Selston was Stephen Cox Wood Sr, who was born in the village in 1873 before his emigration to Canada as a young man. Wood's great-great-grandchildren are the American singers and songwriters Finneas O'Connell and Billie O'Connell (best known by her stage name Billie Eilish).

Beauvale, or Beauvale Newthorpe, is a village in Nottinghamshire, England. It is located 1 mile to the east of Eastwood. It is in Greasley parish. Beauvale Priory is the remains of a Carthusian monastery, or Charterhouse, founded in 1343 by Nicholas de Cantilupe. The extant remains include part of the church and a three-storey tower house, which may have been the Prior's lodging.

The 13th-century park, 17th-century terraces and 19th-century pleasure gardens and walled gardens of the hall are Grade II* listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.
