St John the Evangelist's Church, Kirkby-in-Ashfield is a parish church in the Church of England in Kirkby Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire.

Felley is a civil parish in the Ashfield district, in Nottinghamshire, England, located between Hucknall and Sutton-in-Ashfield. According to the 2001 census, the parish had a population of four. At the 2011 Census the population remained minimal. Details are included in the Underwood ward of Ashfield Council. Prior to 1974 it was part of Basford Rural District. The parish is grouped with the neighbouring parish of Annesley (pop 1,096) to elect a joint parish council.

Felley Priory is a 16th century house with gardens located in the village of Felley, Nottinghamshire, UK. It is situated on the grounds of a former priory established by Augustinians in 1156 and dissolved in 1536. The gardens were started in 1974 by Maria Chaworth-Musters and opened to the public through the National Garden Scheme just two years later. Since Maria's passing in 2010, the gardens have been managed by her granddaughter and expert gardener, Michelle Upchurch. In 2021, the gardens were one of the four finalists in the public gardens category in NGS's The Nation's Favourite Gardens competition.

Annesley Hall is a Grade II listed country house near Annesley in Nottinghamshire, England and the ancestral home of the Chaworth-Musters family. The 13th-century park, 17th-century terraces and 19th-century pleasure gardens and walled gardens of the hall are Grade II* listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

Annesley Old Church or the Church of All Saints, Annesley Park, is a disused church in a ruinous condition which stands on a mound near to Annesley Hall, Nottinghamshire. The building remains are Grade I listed and are surrounded by a graveyard. The site is scheduled as an ancient monument.The church is built in stone and measures approximately 35 metres (115 ft) by 14.5 metres (48 ft). The standing remains include the roofless west tower, nave, chancel and a large 14th-century lady chapel to the south. The Lady Chapel, known as the "Felley Chantry” after the priory at Felley to whom the patronage once belonged, contained three fine sedilia and a piscina and a large east window with reticulated stone tracery. The surrounding graveyard contains a variety of mainly 17th- and 18th-century grave markers.

Kirkby Bentinck railway station was a station serving the town of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, England. It was on the Annesley branch of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway, later the Great Central Railway on the section from Nottingham Victoria to Sheffield Victoria. The station was opened in January 1893 and closed in March 1963 after 70 years in service. Until 1 August 1925 it was named Kirkby & Pinxton station, and it also appeared on some Ordnance Survey maps as Kirkby & Bentinck station.

At the 2011 census, it had a population of 1,162 (including Annesley Woodhouse to the west).Annesley Hall is a grade two listed building, once owned by the Chaworth-Musters family, which has connections to the Byron family of nearby Newstead Abbey. Annesley Old Church was mentioned by Lord Byron and D. H. Lawrence. There is also close by the earthworks of Annesley Castle. The Misk Hills lie to the south of the village. Annesley is part of Nottinghamshire's Hidden Valleys area. The parish is grouped with the neighbouring parish of Felley to elect a joint parish council. The old church of Annesley was dedicated to All Saints. It was allowed to become derelict in the 1940s. Features of interest included the east window of the south aisle, the 13th century sedilia and the 17th century royal arms in stucco.The village is on the A611 for Mansfield near junction 27 of the M1. Nearby to the south is the roundabout with the A608, which is now a thoroughfare to Sherwood Park Enterprise Zone. It was connected to Nottingham by rail until Annesley railway station closed in 1953.

Underwood is a hilltop village within the civil parish of Selston in the English ceremonial county of Nottinghamshire. The village is a ward of Ashfield with a population of 2,953 taken at the 2011 Census. It stands in a former coal mining area in the Hidden Valleys and is in the local government district of Ashfield. The village offers views across the Erewash Valley towards the Southern Pennines. It is situated near to junction 27 of the M1 and is bordered by Bagthorpe and Selston, and Brinsley and Moorgreen to the south. The gardens of Felley Priory are accessible from the village. It is part of Nottinghamshire's 'Hidden Valleys' area. Bagthorpe Primary School and Underwood Church of England Primary School have good reputations, and as a consequence the area is a desirable one for families. This has increased house prices in Underwood and Bagthorpe, especially in Lower Bagthorpe and the area along Main Road, Underwood. The village has a number of pubs including The Hole in the Wall, The Red Lion, The Shepherds Rest, Dixies Arms and The Dog & Quayle (previously The Sandhills). Underwood Miners Welfare Cricket Club was founded in 1894 and is on Church Lane in Underwood. The club has three senior teams, two playing on Saturday in divisions D and L of the South Notts Cricket League and one on a Sunday in Section 1 of the Mansfield and District Cricket League.

Selston is a large village and civil parish approximately 12 miles (19.3 km) NNW of Nottingham in the Ashfield district, Nottinghamshire, England. At the time of the 2001 census Selston Parish (which includes the settlements of Underwood, Jacksdale, Westwood, Bagthorpe, New Selston and Selston proper) had a population of 12,208 increasing to 12,596 at the 2011 Census.Selston is bounded by Underwood to the South, Annesley to the East, and the Derbyshire border to the West. St Helen's Church dates back to 1150 AD although the exterior of the church was altered by restoration and enlargement in 1899. An older Saxon church is thought to have occupied the site, and there is a monolith in the church yard, which may have been of ceremonial importance for pre-Christian pagans. The local five-a-side football pitch, on the site of the Leisure Centre, was opened by Nottingham Forest legends, Stuart Pearce and Colin Cooper. Since the year 2000 new housing estates have been built in Selston as more families requested to live in the area. The last trace of the Holland Family, responsible for the building of Matthew Holland School in Selston, was removed when David Holland, great grandson of Matthew, sold his greengrocer's shop. It was demolished in 2005. In 2006 the Matthew Holland School, having become a specialist school with Visual Arts status, changed its name to the Selston Arts and Community College, and then again a few years later to Selston High School, though remaining a comprehensive school. One notable resident of Selston was Stephen Cox Wood Sr, who was born in the village in 1873 before his emigration to Canada as a young man. Wood's great-great-grandchildren are the American singers and songwriters Finneas O'Connell and Billie O'Connell (best known by her stage name Billie Eilish).
