Smallingerland (Dutch: [ˈsmɑlɪŋərˌlɑnt] ; West Frisian: ) is a municipality in the province of Friesland in the Netherlands.

Drachten (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈdrɑxtə(n)] ) is a town in the northern Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Smallingerland, Friesland. It had a population of around 56.098 in 2023 and is the second largest town in the province of Friesland.

Drachten Airfield (Dutch: Vliegveld Drachten) (ICAO: EHDR) is a small general aviation airfield in the Netherlands located in the province of Friesland, 1 NM (1.9 km; 1.2 mi) northeast of Drachten. It has one runway, 07/25, with an asphalt/concrete surface and a length of 950 m (3,117 ft). Customs services are available upon request to allow international flights. The airfield was constructed in the 1950s by the Philips electronics company, which has a factory in Drachten. In an attempt to provide an avenue for otherwise illegal street races, the airfield is now also used for drag racing.

Kortehemmen (West Frisian: Koartehimmen) is a village in Smallingerland municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 258 in January 2017.

Olterterp is a village in the municipality of Opsterland in the east of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 75 in January 2017.The village was first mentioned in 1505 as Otterterp, and means "outer settlement". The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1414 or 1415 as a replacement of an earlier church. The church was built without a tower. The tower was added in 1744.Olterterp was home to 154 people in 1840. Most of the land was owned by Ambrosius Ayso van Boelens. Around 1850, van Boelens started to cultivate the wilderness and turn it into farmland.

Lauswolt is an estate in Beetsterzwaag, Friesland, the Netherlands, dating back to the 17th century. The estate is currently being used as a hotel. The restaurant, called De Heeren van Harinxma, had a Michelin star between 2001 and 2006 and has one as of 2022. Lauswolt was the location of talks between CDA, the Labour Party and ChristianUnion for the formation of a new government. The negotiations were intended to be secret, but De Telegraaf newspaper revealed Lauswolt as the location on the very first day of the talks.
