Littlejohn Island

Cousins Island is an island in Casco Bay within the town of Yarmouth in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. It is listed as a census-designated place, with a population of 490 as of the 2010 census. The CDP is part of the Portland–South Portland–Biddeford, Maine Metropolitan Statistical Area. The island is connected to mainland Yarmouth by the Ellis C. Snodgrass Memorial Bridge (colloquially known as the Cousins Island Bridge), built in 1955. It is also connected to Chebeague Island by a 15-minute ferry ride on the Chebeague Transportation Company's ferry, the Islander. The island's southwestern peninsula is the site of the Wyman Power Station, an oil-fired electric power plant capable of producing up to 823 megawatts of electricity. Wyman is a peaking power plant, which means it is fired up to operate only during times of high electricity demand in the region, such as hot summer days. The Wyman Energy Center also includes a lithium-ion battery grid energy storage system which was the largest and the first of its kind in New England at the time of commissioning. The battery is designed to provide ISO-New England an option for handling the continual changes in electricity supply and demand.The island, Cousins River and Littlejohn Island (collectively known at the time as the Hogg Islands) are named after Englishman John Cousins (c. 1596–1682), who emigrated from Marlborough, Wiltshire. He became the owner of Cousins Island in 1645 after purchasing it from Richard Vines, Steward General and councillor for Sir Ferdinando Gorges. Two years later, he sold approximately half of it to Richard Bray, who settled there with William Wise.Heritage Radio station WYAR was established in 1998 by Gary King in the basement of his Cousins Island home. King died in 2019, but the station is still on air today.

Cousins Island Chapel is an historic non-denominational chapel at 414 Cousins Street on Cousins Island, an island in Casco Bay off the coast of Yarmouth, Maine. Built in 1894 by local year-round residents, it is the most architecturally notable building on the island, and is representative of a late 19th-century trend of building summer chapels in coastal Maine. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Hill Cemetery is a historic cemetery on Cousins Island in Yarmouth, Maine. Located in today's Katherine Tinker Preserve, it is now closed to burials.The cemetery is so named because it contains only members of the Hill family, with dates of death ranging from 1831 to 1899. It includes burials of Revolutionary War veterans.

The Great Chebeague Golf Club is a country club at 16 Stone Wharf Road on Chebeague Island, Maine. It has a nine-hole golf course on more than 28 acres (11 ha) on the north side of the island. Its clubhouse is a repurposed circa 1807 residence, which is probably one of the oldest buildings used for that purpose in the nation. The club was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Madeleine Point is a promontory on Cousins Island in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. It is located around 3.44 miles (5.54 km) south of Yarmouth Village and looks out into inner Casco Bay, back toward mainland Yarmouth. It is accessed by Madeleine Point Road, which is off Cousins Street.

The Chebeague Island Inn is located on Chebeague Island, Maine, United States. Situated in 2.5 acres (0.0039 sq mi), on South Road, near the northern tip of the island, the inn overlooks part of Casco Bay. Just beyond the western edge of the inn's property, Stone Wharf Landing is where the Chebeague Island Ferry, which runs to and from Cousins Island, berths on the island. The inn also overlooks a few holes of the island's nine-hole golf course. The inn, which has twenty-six rooms, was built in the 1880s, and was originally known as the Hillcrest Hotel. The inn burned down in the early 20th century and was rebuilt in the 1920s. It was given its current name in 2000, and was fully renovated in 2004. It is open between May and October.

The Ellis C. Snodgrass Memorial Bridge is located in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. It spans a section of inner Casco Bay, connecting the mainland, at Drinkwater Point, to Cousins Island, at Sandy Point, hence it is also known as Cousins Island Bridge. It carries vehicular and pedestrian traffic of Cousins Street, and is the only means of access to and from Cousins Island, except by watercraft. The bridge, which is named for its constructor Ellis C. Snodgrass, was built in 1955 to assist with the construction of Wyman Power Station. The bridge was renovated in 1992. It is 1,999.1 feet (609.3 m) long and 22 feet (6.7 m) wide.As of 2016, an average of 2,240 vehicles crossed it daily.

Chebeague Island is located in Casco Bay, an inlet of the Gulf of Maine. It was originally used as a fishing ground by Abenaki Native Americans. Also known as Great Chebeague (pronounced "sha-big") Island, today it is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. It is located 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Portland, Maine. Chebeague Island is the largest island in Casco Bay that is not connected to the mainland by a bridge. The largest island is Sebascodegan, or "Great Island," which is part of the Town of Harpswell and connected to the mainland via a 100ft bridge. Chebeague Island is one of the twelve major islands of the Calendar Islands, a term that originated in 1700 with the report by the English military engineer Wolfgang William Römer, who claimed there were "as many islands as there are days in the year." As a corrective, the Maine State Historian Robert M. York stated there are "little more than two hundred islands" in Casco Bay.Chebeague Island was a part of the Town of Cumberland until July 1, 2007, when it seceded and became the Town of Chebeague Island. The Town of Chebeague Island includes seventeen islands and their adjacent waters. These include the islands of Bangs, Bates, Hope, Ministerial, Sand, Stave, Stockman, and the tiny Upper Green Islands. At the 2020 census, the town's year-round population was 396. The population is said to more than triple in the summer months. Chebeague Island is part of the Portland–South Portland–Biddeford, Maine Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Drinkwater Point is a promontory in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. It is located 2.35 miles (3.78 km) southeast of Yarmouth Village and looks out into inner Casco Bay and Cousins Island. Gilman Road leads to the point itself, where the Ellis C. Snodgrass Memorial Bridge connects mainland Yarmouth to Cousins Island. Drinkwater Point and nearby Drinkwater Point Road are named for Captain Theophilus Drinkwater, son of Allen and Hannah Drinkwater. His house, built in 1791 by his grandfather, Nicholas, stood at the southern end of Drinkwater Point Road.

White's Cove is a cove in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. It is around 0.53 miles (0.85 km) across at its widest point, in the inner waters of Casco Bay. It sits directly north of the Ellis C. Snodgrass Memorial Bridge. Whites Cove Road, off Gilman Road, leads to the cove.

Wyman Power Station (known colloquially as CMP) is an oil-fired power station in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. Situated on the town's Cousins Island, the facility was completed in 1957. It is named for William Frizzell Wyman, the former president of Central Maine Power (CMP) and the son of its co-founder, Walter Scott Wyman.The facility has four steam turbine units, the most recent of which, with its 421-foot chimney, went online in 1978.Because it burns costly Number 6 residual fuel, the plant has largely been used as a peaking power plant, fired up only when another big plant goes offline, or when very hot or cold weather spikes the region's demand for energy. With $2 million in annual revenue for the town, it is Yarmouth's largest property taxpayer. In the 1980s, it paid half of the town's tax burden; as of 2012, however, it covered less than 8%.A 16.2 megawatt battery storage capacity was added to the station in 2016.

Homewood Inn is a former inn that was in business in Yarmouth, Maine, from 1912 to 1992. Although the buildings are still standing, they are now used as private residential units.The original "Homewood" was built in the 18th century by "rugged coastmen."
